Trump has been surprisingly quiet. Not a natural state for him, so I expect the urge to make his usual outbursts will outdo the legal demands placed on him for silence and self preservation. Silence, for him, would be anathema.

I'm thinking that the restrictions placed on him communicating in the time before and during all of the trials is probably the most effective way to take him out of the running for the election. He's in a damned-if-you-do talk, and damned-if-you-don't situation because he can't sway voters with his BS. So the trials themselves could go either way, but the time leading up to and during the trials could be the crucial turning point. Possibly a glimmer of hope there??!!

Ok, from that article I can see that they are basing their action on this:

"The group included findings on Trump's efforts to overturn the election results that were revealed by the House Jan. 6 committee, which dissolved in January after having concluded a lengthy investigation into the riot, as well as from special counsel Jack Smith's investigation that led to one of the four criminal indictments against the former president."

I guess there is time pressure to start their action now, given the impending election processes.

Statistically it is still not correct but Donuel, generally I view your broad brush comments as thought provoking.

And don't forget that the TV persona of Trump has a very high influence. The disconnect between what is loosely referred to as "reality TV" and reality itself is difficult for some viewers to see. A TV star or Hollywood star projects an aura of being in control of dramatic situations and some voters project that carefully crafted and directed vision onto political reality.

I have seen two news commentaries about the difficult situation in which Kevin McCarthy has found himself regarding the announced impeachment against President Biden. One was on Deutsche Welle news on Oz TV, and one was on an Oz show called Planet America.

Both commentaries imply that McCarthy is caught between a rock and a hard place, damned if he does and damned if he doesn't announce the impeachment. One of the comments on Planet America was that because the impeachment was not put to a vote, it may not be valid, but that McCarthy may not have been confident of sufficient numbers to pass the motion.

Regarding Trump's recent confusion, I'm wondering whether the strain of having to think before he speaks due to legal constraints is starting to make his brain boil over. All that stress of holding in what he really wants to say must be taking a toll on his health. For him, NOT saying something and evaluating every word he does say is not a normal state of affairs.

The polls I have seen are ranking Biden and Trump fairly equal. It seems logical to me for them both to run - assuming that Trump gets the GOP nomination, which appears likely - because it would be an uphill battle for the Democrats to find someone else with any chance of beating Trump.

SRS, I like Harris, and I totally agree with everything you said about her.

Looking at the campaign through the perspective of marketing (i.e. business management-speak) I think that Biden has a good chance of getting re-elected but to start up a whole new person as a potential successful candidate when Biden is currently doing a good job in the role (in my opinion, and in the polling results) is not a good marketing strategy.

I think that if Biden is re-elected then Harris stepping in, for whatever reason, is a good strategy but trying to get a woman elected, straight off the blocks, is not likely (in my opinion) due to ingrained beliefs that "a woman can't do the job". Not just male voters, but some female voters have that belief as well.

In Oz, there have been occasions where the polling indicates a likely result and the opposite result occurs. In some cases I think that the polling helps some voters to think more clearly about their voting intentions, and possibly sways them into a different path than originally they intended. We are poised to find out one of those results in a week or so. I have my fingers and toes crossed that the current polling results are not the final outcome on that issue.

I guess McCarthy thought that if he backed the Biden "impeachment" issue he might be safe-ish. Guessed wrong! I think he was in a lose-lose position, whichever decision he backed.

BTW Donuel, I agree with what you said in your post 02 Oct 23 - 07:42 PM about the Electoral College and mandatory voting. As an outsider in a country with an electoral system which works fairly well most of the time, I view both of those parts of the U.S. electoral system with considerable disquiet.

The point about cultism is very valid. We saw it here in the UK with Boris Johnson too. There are still people who believe he was just 'one of the lads'. Sadly Jeremy Corbyn was becoming a bit of a cult amongst left wingers too and, for all he is a decent human being with good policies, he was not a god. Trump received 45.9% of those people, in reality receiving the vote of about 30% of the whole voting population.

I believe Americans AND Europeans are equally educated that a high cultured society like Germany or even the US can go from a reasoned society to one where it is socially acceptable to shoot, hang, and gas women and children to death on a Saturday and go to church Sunday over just 10 short years of cultural change.

For years people learned how to suppress their early teachings that were offensive in society but carried those feelings deep inside. Once legitimized those early lessons surface.
All it took was a bigot like Trump with the veneer of financial success and shared hatreds from an early age.

Donald's dad was sympathetic to the KKK and Donald absorbed all those teachings early.

Childish beliefs lead to childish behavior. It is not that hard to understand Trumpism and its fallacies from this POV. Perhaps this has been said before but we should bear in mind we are dealing with children with real guns.
