Well said all of you.Eliza is truely one of the great ones..However about Joan Baez.. her voice is fine.. maybe it has changed a bit... but her character is still the same.. She hangs on to whatever seems to help her cause of the moment..

Actually, Joan has smoothed out the old break in her voice and sings better than she used to. And it WAS Bob who latched onto HER. Not that she is perfect.

Red Rice-RedRice-Eliza is the best and these C.D`s are just stunning.Joan Baez who has the knack for latching onto greatness(oops)(Bob Dylan) is currently touring with Eliza or is it the other way around.Well anyway check out Red Rice/Eliza Carhty

Also check out Nancy kerr and Liza Carthy..Shape of Scrape I think ther album is called.....excellent. And for my money....one of the Best Frankie Armstrong..the album is called The Grass Grew Oer. Her version of Little Duke Arthurs Nurse is grand indeed.

OK, if you think that's good then check out the two Nancy Kerr and James Fagan CDs . . for my money they're far better than W-C, though very much in the traditional folk idiom.

The CD is marvelous - I think it is their best yet. As James pointed out it is worth the money for Raggle-Taggle Gipsy's alone.

AMG EXPERT REVIEW: Anybody familiar with traditional English folk music knows Waterson: Carthy is a true treasure of the genre, and on Broken Ground, they do very little to disparage that fact. In fact, if anything, they have continued to expand on their sound with the contributions of Saul Rose on melodeon, who truly goes some distance in filling out the sound that has been largely comprised of only an acoustic guitar and a fiddle. Once again, the arrangements here are exceptional, with Eliza Carthy emerging as an even more accomplished vocalist and violinist. From the gentle flow of "Raggle Taggle Gypsies" to the poignant "The Ditchling Carol," strong harmonies, memorable melodies, and hypnotic instrumentals make this collection engaging from start to finish. it is well produced without being over produced, minimum of instruments. There is button accordian on this album which was not on the previous one. I thought I might not like it but it really adds a lot. The singing is stellar, as usual. This is a very "traditional folk album...However, I have to admit I don't think it is as good as the first one...but I have not listened to this one as much having only got it yesterday. If you don"t have the first one..get it..fabulous record. Let us know what you think of it if you get it.

James - I've been meaning to get that CD myself. How would you describe the production work on that release? Just a couple of instruments or do they add a band, horn section , strings ect? I'm in the mood for stripped down arrangements lately. Right now I'm not in the mood for a synth with my folk music. But that could change. Thanks.

I just had a friend bring me the new Waterson Carthy cd rom England. Played it last night.I have to say it is one of the best albums I have bought in a long time. Liza Carthy's version of the raggle taggle gypsies is worth the 13 quid. Anyway, I reminded while listening to it that some one had suggested a thread where people could review or reccommend their favourite albums. I do wish we could get a thread like that going. I would suggest anyone who loves folk would love this album.
