KB we held out the hand of friendship, but the hand was refused, nay shunned. Our crime, not understanding the thread's conventions. They could have said: "Welcome stranger, happy to have you aboard, but first can we just tell you a little of the protocol 'round here so we all get along swimmingly". But no, they smelled blood and were in for the kill. Being relatively new to Mudcat I'm not sure I'll ever have the courage to post outside this thread again. In fact I may give up posting altogether. They've near destroyed me. Farewell to you all forever.

Hello, LH. Good to see you on the 85 trillion thread. We scoff at yrebons. But I must say that the people at the MOAB thread--a thread that has run its course whereas this one is just in the prime of its staek--are wonderful. They were very nice to me when I dropped in for my second and third posts. And, if I may be so bold as to ask, how is old Willie Shatner?

Heh! That's exactly what the MOABS is. Over time the MOABS thread devolved into a tiny little private club of about 6 or 7 people who drop in on a regular basis simply because it has become habitual for them to do so. The only thing that relieves their narcissisistic, nattering, nabobistic nepotism is the occasional visit from William Shatner!

Dare we hope that this thread may become something similar...yet much more democratic and far less elitist...a thread for ALL, not just for some! Let that be our watchword, our inspiration, our credo, and our sacred mission. After all, it takes a hell of a lot of posters to rack up 85 billion posts, so we cannot afford to be elitist snobs now, can we?

I actually did lurk for a while on MOAB but never could make heads or tails out of what was going on over there. Seemed to be random postings by a select few... hmmm, oh well. I saw that someone had asked about where folks were from so I figured that was an opening and I jumped in. Won't make that mistake again.

We are a decent sort--just take a little time to look around and read before you announce that you're there. Kind of like you might do if you're invited into someone's home for the first time. Entering the room talking is bound to send Gluon or the freds off on a tear across the solar system, and that is hard on some of those outer rocks.

Still, a casual remark or two from William Shatner can never be thought of as inappropriate, no matter what has been discussed in the last 1,000 posts.

The bogossity meter was running over at MOAB--just walking into the room talking without lurking to see what is being said then joining in smoothly is problematic--even in a BS joint--checking to see what the thread is doing first is all that is required over there. We haven't required new posters to read the whole thing for ages. Now just reading the last 1000 posts will do a pretty good job of bringing you up to speed.
