Yeah, well, it ain't great poetry, and I never thought anyone would want to steal you-know-who's identity. I mean, why??? fer God's sakes? And then he converted and became a man of God, dedicating himself to the religious life. And not just any religious life, the hardest one around. No talking, not even being able to leave the confines of the Abbey much less look at a pretty girl! And now, when the New Shane is on his way to Madagascar some punk comes along and tries to steal his old, unrepentant, identity!

How low can some people go, anyway?

My dear brothers and sisters,

I have been ordered by my Superiors to study at Monastera Masina Maria, our monastery in Madagascar. I am going with a joyful heart, filled with the knowledge of the goodness of God and knowing that He would never ask us to do that which is beyond our strength.

It will be difficult for me to leave the land of my birth, to leave my family, but is it not written that "when I became a man I put on the things of a man?" I have grown up spiritually, as I had grown up physically, and I am, I feel, much better for it. I know now that my involvement with liquor, drugs, sex and the other traps of the flesh was God's way of testing me. I have found my true home here in the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance (the Trappists) and hope to spend the rest of my life atoning for both my sins and those of others.

It is very possible that I will return to Canada, even to Blind River, in the future. In the meantime, I shall pray for each of you and ask only that you do not listen to that imposter who posts as me as I used to be.

Hi all,
Sorry I haven't been around lately - I took missing out on the 'Poster of the Year 2006' award real bad. First I couldn't sleep and took to drink (BDiBR would have been proud).This affected my job and I got told to 'sort myself out or don't come back'. I then took to living rough on the streets around Darrington, pondering over what more I could have done to become poster of the year and seeking advice and words of wisdom from all quarters, drunks, hobos, men of the cloth and sages on the 5000 thread. Basically it turns out that I should have posted more. Now enlightened, I'm back to start my new campaign for the 2007 award, proper this time.

And what a shock to return and find our spiritual leader BDiBR is now truly spiritual. What next on this thread?

My dad got re-married a number of years ago. When his wife (a lovely woman) died her two male grandchildren came to the funeral in their Harley T-shirts. On this side of the family we figured those were probably the nicest black shirts the guys had. They were pall bearers.

Sorta thing ol' Shane would wear to his wedding. Only I guess he'll never get married now. Trappists take vows of poverty (no problem there!), chastity, and obedience -- and silence. I kinda think Shane might have a problem with those last three, but if he IS reformed and HAS found God, well, who knows?

Crispin Fiacre, huh? I don't know about Crispin, but St. Fiacre is the patron saint of hemorrhoid sufferers. I guess it kind of fits.
