actually quite good- has to be seasoned correctly.

Sonnet 24/03/04                     DCCCXCVI

My muse returns, with spring within her eyes
To bring the blossoms, and new growth in heart.
She gives dreams reason to sing, and to prize
Each moment as chance that new hopes might start.
How shall I find words that might my mood share,
To show how much I need this hope? I seek
To reflect some of light, to show I care
For more than my desires: Dare my heart speak?
Her quiet glance shows all that I might want:
A friend, and muse, and love. What can heart add
To such a look? Can I find dreams to haunt
My soul, and let this lonely heart be glad?
She is still beyond reach, but might hearts touch,
To give my soul a chance to care too much?

MMmmmm Octopus, Calamari...I adore them both! Having lived in Greece for a decade gave me the equivalent of a tentacled-sweet-tooth.

And of course, watching the fishermen there as they repeatedly slap their squid against the rocks (while lasciviously gazing at any foreign woman lolling nearby trying to get her tourist-tan) to keep them soft (yes, the metaphor doesn't completely hold together) once again proves that food is one of the best aphrodesiacs there is.

My wasband cooked a mean fried calamari, but for mezi, the dried-in-the-sun-roasted octopothi, and cut into little bite-sized pieces of heaven, is bliss.

...xx..(Still on my diet,sigh)..xx..e

OK Ok...they slapped their squids to keep them soft isn't the best metaphor for slapping themSELVES to keep them HARD!

Sheesh! I hardly thought I'd have to explain this to YOU, BB!

Now, you do understand that they were looking at the girls in a sexual manner, and NOT because they were hungry?

Then again, OMG, this could go on and on, couldn't it???

Time for another sonnet??

as you wish...

Sonnet 26/03/04                     DCCCXCVII

I would not ever choose to cause you pain
Or have you think I do not care. I try
To be what you might need, that hope might gain
Another smile, or dreams to you might fly.
Might words be music to you, and my lines
Give pleasure, and a smile? Might I hope eyes
That give dreams look at me, and find some signs
Of what I feel, that I might dreams realize?
I cannot tire of caring, nor of dreams
That bring you to my arms: Yet, I desire
You find what you might need. My own soul seems
To balance upon what your dreams require.
Shall I be jealous that you have love found?
Can truest concern be by desires bound?

My wasband

Ellen - my guess is that that wasn't a typo. I've never seen that before and I like it!

Yet more proof the the ladies of Mudcat are the most wunnerful women it the world.

Well, this is obvious but:

Octopus's Garden

I'd like to be, under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade
He'd let us in, knows where we've been
in his octupus' garden, in the shade.

I'd ask my friends to come and see
An octopus' garden with me
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade.

We would be warm, below the storm
In our little hideaway beneath the waves
Resting our head, on the sea bed
In an octopus' garden near a cave

We would sing and dance around
because we know we can't be found
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade

We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
(Lies beneath the ocean waves)
Oh what joy for every girl and boy
Knowing they're happy and they're safe
(Happy and they're safe)

We would be so happy you and me
No one there to tell us what to do
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden with you
In an octupus' garden with you
In an octupus' garden with you.

Thanks for the song, Blackcatter, and yes "wasband" is my very own invention of which I am quite proud. Please feel free to use it or pass it along. It may in the end be my only true creative legacy.

You mentioned on the Pasta thread that you incorporated those songs into your act. Ever had a recording made?

Well I doubt I'll ever refer to my "wasband," but I'll pass it along to my women and gay friends.

No recordings, I'm afraid other than as part of local concerts. I've ben working lately with a good friend to put together a duo. I don't play guitar so I typically sing a'capella. But I also play tin whistle & jews harp.

Whew! Go off line for two weeks and look what happens! I am now going to be late for work. Oh, well. I'm on restricted duty at the moment, so wasn't really looking forward to going in and painting the stupid trashcan anyway! BTW, when we don't have the trashcan in the parking lot, we have LESS litter in the park! Go figure!

Yesterday I rescued a horseshoe crab that some young wretch had turned upside down and left on the beach at low tide. Poor thing was waving it's feet and spiny tail desperately, when I came along. Oh, and our osprey family should be hatching out baby osprey any day now. How about a sonnet for them, BB?

All I could think of when I read this was, "were they expecting something else?".

Speaking of osprey, I remember kyacking off Victoria Island, up in the Pacific NW, and watching an osprey hit the water and come away holding a magnificent fish in it's talons. It was just a moment of pure bliss to watch (though I imagine not for the fish).

OK, BB, here's more info for you.
Osprey usually lay three eggs, reddish-brown with brown splotches, about the size of large chicken eggs. Our pair of osprey nest in the top of the largest white pine on a very small island about 100 feet from shore. Mum sits on the eggs and Dad does the fishing, but they do swap off nest duty fairly often. The female is about 1/3 bigger than the male, with a wingspan of almost 6 feet. Osprey eat only fish. After hatching, the young will be fed regurgitant for the first 10 days, afetr that, the parents will be kept busy feeding each baby osprey apx. 2 lbs of fish per day. They double in size every week for about the first five weeks, ending up the same size as the parents at the end of that time. The osprey in Maine are migratory, flying as far south as Peru. Our little osprey will have to be self-sufficient by the middle of September, which is when migration takes place. Also, during incubation and while the babies are small, the parent osprey will chase off all other birds that they consider a threat, but are vulnerable to human disturbance, especially kayakers paddling too close to the nest. Last year, the nest was abandoned after hatching because of a large watersports festival and hordes of people paddling right up to the island. The chicks died, either due to exposure, starvation of they got eaten while the parents were spooked off. We're hoping for better guidance on the part of the festival organizers this year.
So, BB, was that enough info for a sonnet?

peccable comes from the Latin peccare - to go wrong.

peck comes from the Middle English & Middle Flemish pekken to pick.

the words have not direct connection.

The XS-1 (X-1)

The designation "XS-1" stood for eXperimental Sonic. The mission of the XS-1 was to investigate the transonic speed range (speeds from just below to just above the speed of sound) and, if possible, to break the "sound barrier."

The planes (there were 3 XS-1 built) have become commonly known as X-1. Not only was it the first aircraft to travel supersonic, it was the first in a line of X aircraft leading eventually to the space shuttle. Because the U.S. was in the midst of WWII, only Bell Aircraft was able to take on the project in 1944. The configuration which was developed was a thin, straight-winged aircraft with a bullet-shaped fuselage. The XS-1 began flight testing in 1946 and eventually Chuck Yeager flew it through the sound barrier on October 14, 1947.

When Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier, he did so over the desert of Southern California. But the beginning flights were conducted in the skies over Orlando, Florida. Eleven flight tests took place between January 19 and March 6, 1946. These preliminary tests were important to find if the XS-1 would prove to be airworthy and stable enough to reach the speed of sound.

The XS-1 were 31 feet long and had a wingspan of 28 feet. They were built of aluminum stressed-skin construction to extremely high structural standards. The XS-1 carried only enough fuel for about 5 minutes of flight and because of that, it was launched from under the wing of a B-29. For it's tests in Orlando, it was actually unpowered. The process was primarily of the XS-1 being dropped in mid-air and gliding it down to a landing.

The test pilot for all the Orlando flights of the XS-1 was Bell Aircraft pilot Jack Woolams. Woolams was born in 1917 and died at the end of 1946, less than a year after his work with the XS-1.

Ranger1:

Well, not sure this is what you might want- but blame my Muse...

I am not sure I like it, but here it is:

Sonnet 17/06/04                        CMXIX

Three future hunters rest, almost to sky
At top of pine, and wait for food. They grow,
With busy parents' care, and soon will fly
To winter in a far off land. They show
The cycle of all life: To win their lives
From other's death. In truth, they risk as much,
With such uncertain fate. For now, each thrives,
But balance might at any time life touch.
Can any of us future know, to tell
Our time of ending? Each of us might fall
At any moment: Does wishing all well
Make difference in what occurs at all?
Life's thread is spun, woven, and cut: The hell
We find in soul is what each one might call.
