Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: GUEST,Vixen@Work Date: 09 Sep 02 - 09:04 AM Reynaud and I will be camping again (we can't wait, we can't wait!) No campfires, and we pitch our tent in the middle of the lawn between the dining hall and the cabins--not a "campsite" and definitely not in the woods. However, by the time the snoring has muffled through the cabin walls, 30 yards of the great outdoors, and the tent fabric, it's sort of like the sound of very large cats purring loudly at some distance, and is not too sleep-disrupting! Registration going out tomorrow morning! V |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: GUEST,Vixen @ work Date: 11 Sep 02 - 01:03 PM Could somebody please post the registration addy. I've tried going directly to the website, and it's still blocked out. Check is ready...waiting to send... V (and Reynaud too, of course!) |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: GUEST,Claymore Date: 12 Sep 02 - 02:16 PM I've just sent in my money, and since I will be coming from Shepherdstown WV (Cultural Hub of the Western World). I will be passing by Baltimore and BWI prior to the turn North to Ramblewood. Since I frequently do the sound for Scottish Weekend at Ramblewood (which this year is over the Sept 27-29 weekend) I am quite familiar with the location. Depending on what CarolC and JtS decide (see related threads), I may have room for one or two more in my car. As for those who know me, I have (of course) requested sleeping arrangements on the right side of the cabin line.. ;} ("Right" is subjective in this case, and is determined by the position of the ladies cabins, and (of course) my position with the ladies...) |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: MMario Date: 12 Sep 02 - 02:23 PM The wrong side of the cabin would be outdoors, wouldn't it? |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: CET Date: 12 Sep 02 - 06:59 PM Her Majesty has found it possible to dispense with my services this year, so Charmion and I are going!! Thanks to Charlie Baum for telling us about the Getaway at Old Songs last year. Claymore: say hello to us when you get to the Getaway. We stayed in Shepherdstown as we were travelling around Virginia and West Virginia on our honeymoon four years ago. I see from another thread that Willie-O is hoping to get to the Getaway. It would be great to have an addition to our Ottawa contingent. Edmund |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: Ferrara Date: 12 Sep 02 - 10:03 PM mg, last year we had about 140 people, I think. It only seems like 250.... Cause we are all in a state of bliss that boggles the mind.... The camp cooks for us. They insist on it. Charlie Baum has done a great job of overseeing the menus and making sure there will be plenty of salads, fresh fruit, and generally tasty, good food. Yes, there's one campfire area, and an early evening campfire sing for kids on Saturday. I agree with Mick, I hope Mudcatters who are coming for the first time will be open to meeting and making music with ALL the people who are there, whether Mudcat or not. We do what we can to help everyone get acqainted. It's cosier that way. Susan/Wysiwyg, Boo Hoo right back, I sure would love it if you could get here one of these days (either that, or if Bill and I could get up there.) Karen K, I am SO happy to hear that you're planning to be there. Loved seeing you at Mystic. Has anyone heard if Joe Offer is likely to get here? Now, I think I'll start a thread about the Getaway program. We need suggestions! -- Don't write 'em here, I'll go now and start another thread. Rita F

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: Bill D Date: 12 Sep 02 - 11:58 PM "The camp cooks for us".. this is a change from what we have had the most of the last 20 years or so....We had usually had a general overseer and cook, and all adults had to give an hour or two to kitchen duty, but we had some pretty creative menus!!!...This camp does NOT allow outsiders to use their kitchen, so we get MORE freedom (no jockying for best work slots), but more standard menus ..still, it is decently done, and some like it a lot! I think that I prefer this arrangement 'slightly', as it lets me go to any workshop I can stay awake for and know that tolerable food will just appear! If we ever went back to the other way, it would be a shock to the system! |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: JedMarum Date: 13 Sep 02 - 12:21 AM food was good last year - quite good and a good variety |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: JedMarum Date: 13 Sep 02 - 12:23 AM ... I mean you can eat healthy if you want to; plenty of veggies and lower fat dishes to choose from ... along with all the standard fare. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: Micca Date: 13 Sep 02 - 04:38 AM It is with GREAT REGRET I have to say that, due to circumstances over which I have no control, I can not join you all at the Getaway this year!!!! I will miss you all very much, having enjoyed the whole experience so much last year, and will look forward to, I hope, attending next years. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: Jeri Date: 13 Sep 02 - 08:23 AM Micca! Not flying across for the weekend?! I'll miss you and your wee flask! Jed, I'll miss you very much. Fluffy Beef will be alone this year, and I'll miss my pillow and the 'Strings of Fury' instrument fu on the walk up the hill. I'll miss your music, but I'll look forward to one day hearing your new CD. You sure you couldn't stage a surprise appearance? |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: GUEST,Vixen @ Work Date: 13 Sep 02 - 08:51 AM HELP-- Charlie, I tried the URL you posted after my last plea for help, and the form still has two black bars across it, both on the screen and when it prints. I've kept going out to the FSGW registration form, both from the links posted here, and by navigating there directly through my browser, in hopes that somehow whatever is causing the problem will get fixed, but I still can't read the number of the street address due to two black bars across the page. I'm a fairly savvy net user, but I can't figure out how to get around this one! V |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: Fortunato Date: 13 Sep 02 - 11:10 AM In place of Micca we have Morticia. But she can she fill his shoes? I'm looking forward to meeting her and getting HER side of the story...hee hee. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: Micca Date: 13 Sep 02 - 01:21 PM as they say in latin, Fortunato, take EVERYTHING she tells you " cum grano salis"!!! |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: MMario Date: 13 Sep 02 - 01:27 PM Even should she praise you, Micca? |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: Morticia Date: 13 Sep 02 - 01:27 PM I wouldn't go NEAR his shoes, let alone fill them LOL. I will have plenty of stories to tell, reputations to ruin and myths to explode....all the brit contingent who are beginning to sweat, there is little point on relying on my discretion, I don't have one.Five pound notes in a plain brown envelope will be a perfectly acceptable substitute however.*BG* I cannot begin to tell you how much I am looking forward to this! |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: MMario Date: 13 Sep 02 - 01:31 PM A collection for Morticia discretion? |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: CET Date: 14 Sep 02 - 01:07 PM Anybody else coming from outside North America? Is the Friday night dinner pot-luck? |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: Bill D Date: 14 Sep 02 - 02:58 PM Yep...Friday is potluck...but since we do NOT have kitchen access here, we need to plan stuff that can be cleaned up mostly by simple disposal in trash. That is, we cannot leave lots of dirty pans and such, since the camp does not want to do a big clean up before they do Sat breakfast. It's ok to bring a pot..but YOU need to rinse and remove it before bedtime Friday...(moving to disposable aluminium, fast food and such may suit some ....and remember if you are arriving 'late', bringing a bit complex dish may be overkill. Another good idea is having your own plastic mugs for coffee & such...the camp provides, but it is often handy to have YOUR mug to take to workshops and to reduce bouth clutter and confusion over which is which as you move around... |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: Barry Finn Date: 14 Sep 02 - 04:45 PM Ya Bill, you just wanna blend into the drinking crowd with your cup, coffee, hah. Is this the origin of the saying "in his cups". I'll see you soon. Waiting on wife to make up her mind before sending off the check. Barry |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: Jeri Date: 14 Sep 02 - 06:20 PM Barry, it will be wonderful to see Justine again. If she's trying to make up her mind whether to come or not: YES, PLEASE!!! I'm glad I sent the check out early this year. I'd be in agony trying to justify the expense after my car croaked (it's better now) and knowing I still had to buy tires before the trip. I'd manage to justify it, but I'd still agonise for a while. Just please don't try to sell me anything - I am BROKE! (But I'm gonna be there!) |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: SINSULL Date: 14 Sep 02 - 09:14 PM Ah Micca! I will miss you. It won't be nearly as interesting having Morticia prancing around the shower room naked. Next year, Luv. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: kendall Date: 15 Sep 02 - 12:54 PM That's clearly a matter of opinion Sinsull! |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: Sandy Paton Date: 15 Sep 02 - 08:56 PM As it turns out, Caroline and I are going to have to miss all the music and madness (what's this shower prancing??) this year. We'll ask Big Mick to pass around replicated hugs to all, while we stay at home with our noses to the grindstone, so to speak. Life is real, and reality often bites. Sandy |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: Micca Date: 16 Sep 02 - 06:51 AM Sins,( how are you?? long time no hear!!!), Morty is not quite as prone to Nude prancing nude in the showers!! My story is,(and I am sticking to it)" The floor was wet(pools of water) and If I had taken my sleeping gear off it would have got very wet, so I took my kit off in the sleeping area and walked to the showers "au Naturel"" after all bodies are standard issue , most folks have one.. the Recording spirit with the clip board says " Hair....some Bodies.. one per client sense of Humour...Optional.. sense of Irony.....Not available in USA except to small group of selected customers and only with the "liking for folk/acoustic music option" |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: kendall Date: 16 Sep 02 - 08:48 AM This is a real bummer Sandy. BTW, reality is an illusion brought on by the lack of booze. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: Ferrara Date: 19 Sep 02 - 10:03 PM I have GOT to start looking at Mudcat more often.... :-) Micca, awfully sorry you can't make it this year.... But still glad you got here in '01. Thanks for the kind words about the food, Jed. Charlie Baum is responsible for the availability of lots of fresh fruit and veggies, rather than the usual camp food menu of starch with starch on starch.... Sandy and Caroline, you already know how sad I feel that you can't be there.... Barry, please tell Justine that I second what Jeri says, YES PLEASE, would sure like it if she could get away. |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2002 From: GUEST,momnopp Date: 26 Sep 02 - 08:43 PM I'm reprinting a piece from Charlie's original post WAAAYYYY up there at the top, for context: Scholarships are Available We especially encourage families to come, and if the fees seem too steep, some scholarship money is available for those who need help in affording the Getaway, thanks to the Linda Lieberman/David Olive Memorial Fund . If you need assistance, contact the Getaway chair, Charlie Baum at chbaum@earthlink.net or 301-587-2286. On the other hand, if you can afford to contribute to the scholarship fund, you'll help to interest the next generation in folk music. Remember that we hold a silent auction at the Getaway to help replenish the Lieberman/Olive fund--you may wish to bring items to auction off to help others who can't afford the whole cost of the weekend. =============================== So, since I apparently did a good job of coordinating the Silent Auction last year (note to self: stop doing such a damn good job when you volunteer foolishly for something) I've volunteered to do it again. SHEESH -- some people are just gluttons for punishment!! :-) What this means: I will be the person who collects stuff that other people transport to the Getaway to be auctioned off. If you want to donate something, live in the DC metropolitan area, but WON'T be going to the Getaway, I can transport whatever you're donating for you (unless it's a tuba). If you need more information on this, I guess you can PM me or phone me at (301) 589-4008 in Maryland, USA. As ever, the Getaway is one of my very favorite weekends, even if all I do is sit and bask in the deliciousness of the other people attending. Peace, JudyO |
