Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: katlaughing Date: 30 Mar 00 - 04:11 AM Even though Mudstock 99 kind of fell through, I think the following by LeeJ warrants inclusion: And for all of you that can't make history as part of Mudstock 99, let me paraphrase Henry V: "...the fewer the Mudcatters, the greater share of honor! That he which hath no stomach for this festival, let him depart; we shall not rejoice in that man's company, that fears his fellowship to rejoice with us. This day is called The First Mudstock; he that outlives this day and comes safe home, will stand a-tiptoe when this day is nam'd, and rouse him at the name of Mudstock. He that shall live this day and see old age, will yearly on the vigil feast his friends, and say- to-morrow is Mudstock; then will he strip his sleeve, and show his scars, and say these wounds I had at First Mudstock- here the fleeting blemish left by an errant plectrum- here the mark caused by coming too near bet's dutch oven full of Mudcat stew- Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot, but he'll remember, with advantages, what feats he did that day. Then shall our names, familiar as household words- Lonesome EJ, Lion, Katlaughing and Vixen, Joe Offer and Max- Be in their flowing cups freshly remember'd: This story shall the good man teach his son; and Mudstock shall ne'er go by from this day to the ending of the world, but we in it shall be remember'd: We few, we happy few, we band of brothers. For he that shares ale, roast trout, and music with me at Mudstock shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition: and Mudcatters, safe at home, shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here. And hold their Mudcathoods cheap, while any speak, that feasted with us upon The First Mudstock!" |

Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: GUEST,TTCM Date: 30 Mar 00 - 04:17 PM Well definitely for the cover of the CD, a nice parody of the Two Virgins cover made famous by John and Yoko. Only for the Mudcat CD we use Dweebo and Barky as substitutes. (We're really tempted to add more to this, but jeepers phoaks, thanks to Amiss, it's now a family Forum.) We'd buy the CD alone just for that cover. As for the contents of the CD, well you'd just have to include: - Dweebo's stirring rendition of The Night They Busted Barky sung in that long asthmatic weeze that Dweebo comically refers to, and that masquerades as a ''voice'' perhaps pitch-adjusted so that he'll only be a semi-tone flat...(Remember son, songs are supposed to have choruses in them, and, phrases were invented so you can take a breath every now and then while yelping.) - Aine's stirring and haunting cabaret song, dubbed from the original Tiny Tim recording...with perhaps an encore performance of When You're Happy and You Know It, Clap Your Hands with accompaniment by Catspaw on (severely) hammered dulcimer... - Shambles performing the Alka Selzter Jingle --''Plop Plop Fizz Fizz - Oh What A Relief It Is'' - and perhaps a 20 minute narrative by Amiss, Katlaughing and Sorcha describing every aspect of their lives down to what the weather conditions were on the days they were respectively conceived, followed by a medley of the Lord's Prayer sung in 60 different languages by Praise perhaps with a nice dixieland accompaniment and every 7th beat dropped. - All the music recorded to the CD at a very low volume so that McGrath not only has trouble reading the small print on the CD but has trouble listening to it as well. (Nothing that a few pints of Kestrel won't cure.) ...can't wait to buy a copy!... TTCM --the other clique on Mudcat-- |
Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 30 Mar 00 - 04:36 PM If I had to choose only one of your songs, InOBU, it'd be Amadou. I'm glad you like the one of mine about being on the run - but I don't think I ever got round to putting that that up on the Cat or on my site yet, so there's only a few of us know what you're on about. (Mind there aren't that many of us ever know what any of us are on about anyway...)
I'm surprised that the pickle hasn't reared it's head as yet.
(And a note to The Threadworm CurMudgeon - I wasn't complaining about the small print, just wondering at the extra effort involved in producing something that's less legible. You can be as small as you like. The Incredible Shrinking Man could be a great role model for you...)

Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: TTCM (retired) Date: 30 Mar 00 - 06:21 PM Well Bert, given what is considered ''good'' by the collective Mudcat Forum, we would imagine, we could go on stage and fart for 45 continuous seconds, with multiple pitch changes ocurring in that time, and THAT would elicit nods of approval, applause, and even more encouragement. And DuDe, you've mistaken us for those who give YOUR opinions any credibility. Don't come any closer. We're all armed with Brazilian rosewood canes that Catspaw was kind enough to build for us. Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 30 Mar 00 - 08:26 PM Well I never - the Threadworm has clocked in as a non-GUEST, so we can send him or her personal messages. In very small print, I suppose. A Borrower? |
Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: Big Mick Date: 30 Mar 00 - 09:26 PM I sure would like to hear some of the tape from the FSGW Getaway weekend. I am certain there are cuts on that tape that should be included. As to my opinion, we of course have our mainstays..........something by Dan Milner, Art Thieme, Caroline & Sandy Paton, and Rick Fielding. Beyond that I would love to hear something by Skarpi's band. I also would recommend something by Jed Marum, I really enjoyed his Louisiana Tigers tune too. And without a doubt, we would have to have THE FAIR ONE demonstrate her considerable musical skills. But don't let her play her Uillean Pipes............LOL. But I would second also her and Alan Foster's medley of "She Moved Through The Fair" and "Atholl Highlander". And don't forget Dick Greenhaus................damn, I should have never started naming names...........you never can get them all in.........Aine, George Henderson, and on and on........... |

Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: Bert Date: 31 Mar 00 - 10:58 AM Well Welcome aboard TTCM. So you want to "go on stage and fart for 45 continuous seconds". So what are you going to do that's NEW? ;-) However, just for you I'll sing "Size Doesn't Matter" which should be appropriate, judging by your font. Bert. |
Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: TTCM (retired) Date: 31 Mar 00 - 11:20 AM (a) As another so aptly mentioned previously in this thread, ''imitation is the sincerest form of flattery''. (b) We have no quarrel with you Jeri. Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: TTCM (retired) Date: 31 Mar 00 - 11:22 AM Apologies. The above post was meant for another thread. |
Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: Caitrin Date: 31 Mar 00 - 04:24 PM TTCM, you have apparently mistaken us for people who give your opinions any credibility. I don't really think anyone gives a damn what you think of his or her musical ability. |
Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: TTCM (retired) Date: 31 Mar 00 - 04:31 PM ..and of course the sheer volume of responses to all of our posts would bear credence to you point, Catrin?
(We actually though our contribution for the Mudcat CD was rather classic...if we do say so ourselves.)

Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: Caitrin Date: 31 Mar 00 - 04:37 PM To tell the truth, Conscience m'dear, you're right. I can't speak for everyone on the 'cat. There may be some people who do care what you think of them. I've just gotten to the point that I merely find you silly. Your little attacks don't even offend me anymore...you're so obviously making these remarks out of pure maliciousness that it gives them no credence whatsoever. |
Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 31 Mar 00 - 05:09 PM Yup, but if yiu turn your browser to the smallest font it just turns into an inoffensive little black squiggle. Short of him or her printing white on white, it's not a bad self critique, with which I concur. |
Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 31 Mar 00 - 05:14 PM Actually Chas & Dave did a great farting number at Cambridge Folk Festival one time - doing the old hand in the traditional armpit squelching routine for making the sound. This way they avoided problems with positioning the microphone which a more anatomically authentic version might have required. Very well received by the audience. |
Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: TTCM (retired) Date: 31 Mar 00 - 05:14 PM We'll keep that in mind McGrath! |
Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 31 Mar 00 - 05:25 PM You're not alone, TTCM, I'm afraid
But to get back to the CD. Looking through the Mudcat Songbook alone, there are so many set of words that really look interesting - if a fraction of them sound as good as they look, this CD should rerally be something. It's all very encouraging. |
Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: Bert Date: 31 Mar 00 - 05:26 PM Uh! Oh! it seems I got to 'the little squiggle' with my remarks about size. He's pretending he's big now. Now that's a laugh! |

Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 31 Mar 00 - 06:16 PM In that great film The Commitments, the band had this psycopathic roadie, who came in very handy at times. You know, now and then I feel we could do with a fella like that round here...
But we seem to have got sidetracked from talking about the CD. Could we turn our attention from the little squiggly fella jumping up and down with his tongue out, and talk about something to do with why we're here in the first place, music and good conmopany? |
Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: GUEST, Another conscience.... Date: 31 Mar 00 - 10:11 PM Oh come now McGrath, don't pander to all of this 'virtual' bodyguards shit. What's he gonna do?. Further to TTCM's comments above, I had you pegged for being intelligent. |

Subject: RE: WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE MUDCAT CD?? From: SDShad Date: 06 Apr 00 - 12:23 PM MMario, thanks for suggesting it! As is clear, however, from what's been said on the Wav2Mp3 Needed thread, my original source file, recorded on my little PC mic, sampled at 11.025 kHz, is really not useable as a digital source, so if it were to be used, it'd probably have to have to be played and have the analog stream resampled as a new WAV, since the WAV itself won't convert to a useable higher-sampled WAV. It did come across okay on Mudcat Radio, so I suppose one could just sample from that RealAudio stream. Or I'd have to rerecord it. But thanks for the vote regardless. This place is good for yer confidence. Chris |
