Subject: YO! MAX! From: GUEST,MMario Date: 23 Jul 03 - 09:07 AM Max; by any chance have you received a package for Lily Ani in the MudCat Cafe Mailbox recently? I'd wait for you to tell us - but you see - many people are waiting on tenterhooks for the result of an ultra-secret project. If you HAVEN'T gotton the package I'd like to ship off another one to try and get it to you and your womenfolk before Lily Ani's six month birthday. |

Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Max Date: 24 Jul 03 - 03:05 PM OK, I got it. I must say that that is one of the most special things we have ever had the pleasure of receiving. I picked it up from the PO Box and waited till we were all having dinner together to open it. We were very surprised and pleased, and overwhelmed at the effort that must have gone into this. Thank you, thank you thank you, For anyone that isn't in on this, it's a personalized CD for my munchkin, Lily. 22 songs and 2 stories, I think, from many of her Mudcat Aunts and Uncles. We put it in the DVD player when we got home from dining out, and listened to it right then and there, through the TV speakers. Lily kept looking up at the blank TV screen expecting to see something. It couldn't have come at a better time. She's been particularly fussy lately. There is a summer virus going around that the doctor thinks is giving her a sore throat, plus she's probably teething, and its been real hot here in the last couple of days. Well, thanks again everyone, you are the best bunch of loons a boy and his family could know. This is truly a prize that is now a Spiegel-Zink family treasure. I'll have Lily post her thoughts when she's old enough to understand the musical, technical and global spirit of such a wonderful gift. Thank you. |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: GUEST,MMario Date: 24 Jul 03 - 03:07 PM And the hardest part was keeping the thing a secret for almost eight months!!!!!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: katlaughing Date: 24 Jul 03 - 03:43 PM Glad it got there. Enjoy! Thanks to MMario for instigating this and to the others who helped actually put it together, too, it was fun! Hard to keep a secret, though, I agree! |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Max Date: 24 Jul 03 - 03:51 PM Yeah, MMario, that was one of the first things I thought about. Don't know how you all did it, but it sure was a surprise. Well done. |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: GUEST Date: 24 Jul 03 - 04:05 PM seperate thread for playlist |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Jeri Date: 24 Jul 03 - 04:26 PM MMario got a bit of flak for his "secret project" posts, but now everybody knows. I would have sent something, but the 'in' part of my sound card screwed and I don't have anything else to record on except mini-disc. No way to get it OFF the MD, though. |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Amos Date: 24 Jul 03 - 05:06 PM Yayyyyyyy!!! A |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Stilly River Sage Date: 24 Jul 03 - 05:13 PM If MMario sends a duplicate CD, you could chill it (don't freeze it!) and let Lily teethe on it to soothe her sore gums. . . ;-) SRS |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Catherine Jayne Date: 24 Jul 03 - 07:21 PM YEAH!!!!! It got there safe and sound. Lily and Family we hope you enjoy as much as we enjoyed taking part in it for you!! Love Khatt |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Sorcha Date: 24 Jul 03 - 07:24 PM It was sooooo much fun to do a surprise. Can't wait until my copy arrives for the grandbaby due in Oct. |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: wysiwyg Date: 25 Jul 03 - 09:44 AM Will we be able to get copies? I know some fussy babies (and parents) too! ~Susan |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: GUEST,MMario Date: 25 Jul 03 - 09:47 AM I've made copies for the contributors - and I thought we'd check with Max re: more I would say - possibly restrict it to members? and suggest sending a contribution in? Whaddya think? |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: wysiwyg Date: 25 Jul 03 - 10:48 AM Auction one, and then market it as part of the Mudcat CD set, but charge more for it because it is a special item. Then also see if additional children's music CD's are made to keep extending the Mudat series. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: katlaughing Date: 25 Jul 03 - 11:47 AM MMario, that sounds like a good idea, to me, depending on how the others feel about actually producing more..it's their time and energy, as well as yours. I think whoever actually burns the CDs should be reimbursed for their costs. Don't charge more...young parents need all of the extra cash they have and some grandparents, etc. are on limited incomes. |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: GUEST,MMario Date: 25 Jul 03 - 11:55 AM if we stick with "home burned" - I'm willing to do it and cover the costs... of course that means the actual CD is "labeled" with a felt tip. |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Mudlark Date: 25 Jul 03 - 11:58 AM Glad to hear the Blue Bottle Special arrived. And thanks to all who had a hand in this for letting me participate. Happy Almost 6 Months Old Birthday, Lily! |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Giac Date: 25 Jul 03 - 12:04 PM At last! Thanks for letting me in on it. Can't wait to hear the whole thing. Mary |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Sorcha Date: 25 Jul 03 - 12:38 PM I don't care how you do it, I just want one for Owen. |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Stilly River Sage Date: 25 Jul 03 - 06:22 PM I'm having a bunch of CDs burned and labels printed on them at the University Press attached to the university where I work. The graphic can be formatted to the template they provide for that print. I can ask how much per piece for a limited run. That would be a black and white lable, however. If you print a jacket (say, use a color laser printer and cardstock and print it so a couple of covers can come out of each sheet) then you could have the full colors available on the outside. I'll PM MMario to discuss more details. But I'm willing to check on prices, and to do the legwork at the university, once I'm back over there, in two or three weeks. (The foot's coming along, I'm shuffling without the crutches now, but still have it up 6 hours a day). SRS |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Celtaddict Date: 25 Jul 03 - 10:59 PM Please tell us we will have a chance to order copies, even we outside 'Catters! |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Stilly River Sage Date: 25 Jul 03 - 11:23 PM MMario, you locked out of your computer? Can you read PMs? You've been signing your posts "guest" today. SRS |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Marion Date: 26 Jul 03 - 01:13 AM Max said: Don't know how you all did it, but it sure was a surprise. So that means Max doesn't read all our PMs? Thanks, MMario, for stepping up to lead this project. Marion |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: gnu Date: 26 Jul 03 - 05:16 AM Yup, three cheers for MMario. And what a great bunch you guys are !! |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: GUEST,MMario Date: 28 Jul 03 - 08:47 AM I have to go round robin hood barn to get into the mudcat these days due to the influence of the Evil Queen Bess (the content filter on my computer) - unless I do a couple of extra steps I'm a "guest" - but I do have access to my pm's. At least when I'm not in the sixteenth century. (which is all weekend) |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Amos Date: 28 Jul 03 - 09:47 AM I thought you were the sys admin, MM? an't you give the Evil Queen a twist in her knickers? A |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: MMario Date: 28 Jul 03 - 09:51 AM well - y'see; BESS is a subscription service - and the filtering is actually setup by a nationwide company - I *could* ask for an overide code - but it has to be approved by the Superintendent for our BOCES district - and would be kinda hard to explain... |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Amos Date: 28 Jul 03 - 11:08 AM Awww....hell. What's BOCES? I'm not gonna say what I imagine it could be!! :>) A |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Burke Date: 28 Jul 03 - 06:44 PM Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES). A BOCES is a unique and innovative educational institution in New York State, established to help public schools share services. BOCES operates as an extension of local school districts and the New York State Education Department. Found that at Broome-Tioga BOCES web site. I think in MMario's case the BOCES provides computer services to school districts in the county. |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: Amos Date: 28 Jul 03 - 06:57 PM Ah, of course -- I should have known! :>) A |
Subject: RE: YO! MAX! From: GUEST Date: 29 Jul 03 - 08:44 AM actually we provide computer services and act as ISP for 47 school districts (and a number of public libraries as well - under Title III) - have something on the order of 60,000 computers on our WAN - we cover two BOCES districts - 47 school Districts, spread across something like 7 counties and 3 phone LATA's. |
