These guys really did a nice job with this CD, it sounds good and the art looks great. Buy two--you'll want to put one in a frame on the wall!

A little into an account for Lily, the rest for Mudcat is my understanding. Perhaps a Savings Bond would be a possible approach? Good seed money for a college fund. She is being very generous in sharing her personal gift with the membership at large, after all!

Geez. Me again. You know how they sound already, that's why I ask about the look. But I hope they meet your sound expectations also! I proofed this at work while I was doing a mindless task (counting out newsletters to mail all over campus). It was a relaxing interval, listening to the songs and stories collected here. I could easily envision each of these contributors singing these songs or telling these stories to children of their own. And the mixer did a great job of distributing the types of music and stories throughout the disk.

I was away visiting my family this weekend. Mom, Dad, Aunt Mary Jean, Uncle Chuck, and so on. I say "Hey, look what these fine mudcatters have done. They made this great CD for Lily. Want to hear it?"

Track 13 comes rolling by and Mom and Mary Jean burst into tears. Turns out that Mudlark's Lily Ani's Lullaby was a song that their mother (who died when they were still quite young) sang to them when they were little. Their Dad later sang it to their brother Frankie in the hospital when he was in a coma before he died at 19 after a motorcylcle accident. Neither have heard it since.

Mary Jean wants 3 copies, mom wants one. It was a very special moment. Thank you all again.

The original was written by Mabel Wayne, Al Hoffman and Maurice in the early 30's. My folks had a recording of Bing Crosby doing the song (written for a little boy) and played it for me. I've loved it ever since and enjoyed very much slanting the lyrics to Lily Ani. Glad it meant something to your family, Max.

I guess GUEST refreshed this thread as a Christmas-shopping reminder.

I bought a copy last month, right after returning to Mudcat after a very busy period of time during which I hadn't been able to check in with y'all. I figured it was a chance to her the voices of a few names with whom I'd become familiar, as well as an opportuity to make a small and well-deserved contriubution to the site's upkeep.

I had no idea it was a collection of lullabies and children's songs; it was a pleasant surprise.

As it happens, my first grandchild was about to be born when I ordered and received the Blue Bottle Special, so the CD turned out to be a very nice, well-timed gift. Avery Evelyn Belcher was born on Tuesday 12/2/03, perfectly healthy and perfectly cute, at 6 lb 15 oz and 20.5 inches. (I should add that "It's A Girl," since her first name could apply to either gender -- and, in Britain anyway, even her middle name could be used for a boy!)

So -- this is just a note to recommend the album to all new parents, grandparents, aunt & uncles (genetic and honorary), etc.
