Hello, one and all of you folkies who sent in your music to Amos, who has completed the herculean task of putting together all the music for our 5-CD series.

I am in the process of doing the graphics part of the job, and I need your help. Below, I am going to post track information for each CD as I have it now. You'll notice that there are quite a few authorship attributions missing, and I'd like to fill in the blanks as much as possible. In other words --

If there is nothing but a dash between your song title and your name, you need to send me a PM to either tell me the author/composer's last name, or tell me that it's traditional.

This is also your last chance to have me correct spellings, titles, e-mail addresses (please check closely), and to add your website or email address.

I haven't heard any of this music yet, and I really really want to! So let's all hurry up and put this baby to bed!!

Since we are under a deadline, the cutoff point will be Wednesday, Nov. 13. After that, what you see is what you get. *BG*

Cheers,
Michael

Handful of Songs is by our own Jerry Rasmussen and included with kind permission.

The instrumentals by Justapicker are all   "Arrangement by Michael Kaye", I believe. "Mudcat Rag and Nazareth Pilgrim Blues are written by Michel Kay.

I a, sorry -- I had thought this was your own song! Do you know Ken? If so could you get in touch with him and get his agreement that your singing of this song is okay? I am confident there would be no problem but as a courtesy, if he can be reached we should try to do so.

Corrected sequence based on response from Dick. The actual end of Plum tracks are:

20. Cumbrian Reels        4:23
21. Last Letter Home        3:44
22. Roseville Fair        3:18         (Staines) Harpmaker
23. The Song (Reprise)        1:31        Harbey Andrews

The order of 21 and 22 were listed in reverse in the earlier listings. My apologies.

An alternative way of giving access to website addresses, or any other information, could be to indicate that someone has a Mudcat Profile, which can be reached via the Mudcat. That way the information stays current, and it could make for a cleaner looking graphics, because some website URLs can be monstrously unwieldy.

That's just a suggestion, and I'm happy either way so far as my entry is concerned.

Better to include those who wish theirs included here so that any nonCatters buying the CD don't have to wander around looking for profiles, I think.

Couple of things. We capitalize the G in ShoreGrass.

The other thing is that there might be some issues if you use only the last name for songwriter. On my songs, I wrote Connecticut Waltz, but Frank and I collaborated on A Waltz For you. On the Plum CD, there is another song - Tweed's Mudwomen Blues - by someone else named Shaw. Since we're also on that CD, it might cause some confusion.

Notes for Engine 33 Words Lorcan Otway tune traditional... feel free to edit this down...
I have never taken firefighters for granted. I have seen them do heroic things since I was a child. My song "Engine 33" is about more than the heroism we all witnessed in New York a month ago, it is about men and women who have faced hell for us from the dawn of civil history.
On September 18th, seven days after this grievous loss of life, I thought I might do something to raise the spirits of our local firefighters. Engine 33, Ladder 9, on Great Jones Street had lost 10 out of the 40 members of their company. I took my uilleann pipes, and a friend Artie took his fiddle, and we went over to the firehouse, late at night, to play a few jigs and hornpipes. When I brought the song to the firehouse, the firefighters told me about the men who died. They began with the nicknames, "Four Dings," "Tugboat," "Guru," etc. They told me about the little things the guys did, one who carried dog bones in his pocket for every dog he met. They told me about the practical jokes they all played on each other. It reminded me of what was said at the memorial, that over 300 firefighters did not die, but one firefighter died over 300 times.
They also told me of what it was like for them in the World Trade Center as they did their job.
I have to admit, that I always watch a fire engine pass, with a prayer of hope for its crew, but now, I can't keep walking. I have to stop and watch as they pass, a knot in my throat, and wonder at the courage and dedication.

Yvette's Song: Words by Lorcan Otway, Tune traditional, is a true story, written about an Innu friend from Mali Utenam, Quebec, Canada who has triumphed over attempts to destroy her culture and who now struggles to stop the destruction of her land by Hydro Electric dams and Mines. It is a song about the second generation of resistence to forced migration of American Native people.

Problem with just saying that folks have a Mudcat profile is that non-members don't have access to those profiles.

michael, if you are going to list songwriters by "first initial and last name," please remember that I go by my middle name. (So I'm "RJ Pratt or "J Pratt," but never "R Pratt.)

Thanks,
Jeanene

Hey Tweed, actually cuzzin Barb set out to write a bluegrass gospel song and it came out blues. (It's on our own cd, not on the mudcat cd). Those roots are strong!

It's probably too late now for editing changes, anyway. I think everything is written and off to the factory. Can't wait to get my set and hear everyone!

Hi Michael, Amos et al

in case you haven't got my flurry of PMs tonight, here's another. The author of "Tant Que Vivrai" is Sermisy. It would be nice if he could be attributed but he's not going to complain if he's not (the piece was first published in 1528).

regards

Callie
