Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Deni Date: 30 Apr 02 - 04:52 AM Hi everyone. Quite a lot of excitement being generated in this thread. You can feel it sizzling... hi Ian B, i still haven't sent you your donation but I haven't forgotten. I think its a good idea to have English/European version of the CD. Makes it easier to market too. By the way, is this for fun, a promo exercise, or a bit of both.??? Deni |

Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Amos Date: 22 Apr 02 - 11:01 PM Ya got it, Peg O' Me Heart!! And thanks!! Art, your tape just arrived!! I am thrilled!! I was going to bring up the cover art. Who wants to be responsible for the artwork? Alice has the talent, but she's already putting in overtime on the organizing. Maybe she'd be willing to run a little contest on the side for the cover art? I am sure there are scads of brilliant catter's who would rather do art than record! Who else? A |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Peg Date: 22 Apr 02 - 05:41 PM I like "Songs FROM All of Us" even better (though of that, too). Mad Cuts sounds kinda...um...like a crazed butcher is in our midst....or a deranged barber? ;) hey, why not? Amos, PM your mailing address and I will send you that CD. peg

Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Lonesome EJ Date: 22 Apr 02 - 04:19 PM You know homeless, you've got a point. I don't know why it was called a "blue plate special" at the old lunch counters, because it was usually on a white plate or whatever they normally served on, but a light blue plate would probably make more sense. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Homeless Date: 22 Apr 02 - 04:14 PM Hey LEJ, if it's a blue plate special, why would you want the cover art to be a white plate on the tablecloth? Maybe I'm just too young to be hip to the scene, but it seems to me like there should be a blue plate. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Cappuccino Date: 22 Apr 02 - 03:57 PM I wonder... if this gets so darned crowded that not all of us make it on to the CD, I wonder if we should consider a British/European one.... (I include European largely because of having received Alanabit's CD from Koln today. Bloody brilliant.) - ian B |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Rory B Date: 22 Apr 02 - 03:42 PM If you are going to do a picture of a plate on a table shouldn't you have a big slimy mudcat on it with a CD in its mouth LOL xox -Rory- |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Deda Date: 22 Apr 02 - 02:04 PM I'd vote for "Blue Plate Special from the Mudcate Cafe" subtitled, "Mad cuts from the Mudcats". I'll also buy it, if I'm not in debtor's prison when it comes out. You go, bro! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Stephen L. Rich Date: 22 Apr 02 - 01:56 PM Lonesome EJ -- That cover photo idea is brilliant!! It's a classic in the making!! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Lonesome EJ Date: 22 Apr 02 - 12:00 PM Cats have already laid down their licks and blown the groove clear to Daddio, man; they're hip to the scene, like That's a perfect example of the kinds of things I say to my thirteen year old daughter and her friends when I really want to embarrass her. The look of pain on her face is classic, while her friends just look astonished. I do think this is all really far out, and "madcuts from mudcats" is really neat, Pops. I still like Blueplate Special, and I dig the concept of the cover art being a white plate on a red checkered tablecloth next to a cup of black coffee. On the plate are a serving of mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, a dinner roll, and a CD. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Amos Date: 22 Apr 02 - 09:45 AM I thought it was "..can't make her read." Fok process at work...? Note that this goofing around is tolerated because these sterling Cats have already laid down their licks and blown the groove clear to Daddio, man; they're hip to the scene, like. :>) Meaning they've sent in their cuts for the CD! Arise, awake and Sing!! Regards, A |

Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Amos Date: 21 Apr 02 - 10:27 PM Whoops!! Darn, my memory is going!! What's all this CD stuff about anyway? Mudcat In Your Eyes? That Mudcat Feeling? What a Mudcat World? Owe My Soul to the Mudcat? The World on a Set of Strings? The Mudcat Came Back? Around the Mudcat World (in 650 Megabytes)? Gee, I'm flat tonight. I don't like any of these!! C'mon boys and girls? Help me out? A |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Áine Date: 21 Apr 02 - 10:17 PM Uh, Amos -- my title suggestion actually was 'Arise, Awake and Sing', but no matter. ;-) I'm sure someone will come up with an excellent title for the CD. How's about 'Here's Mud In Your Eye! (Songs from the Mudcat Cafe)' (hehehehe)? -- Áine |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Amos Date: 21 Apr 02 - 09:35 PM Rory: Talk him up!! Get hom to send some cuts!! And you, too! Andres: I love it!! Your own favorites are the most important songs for this collection! Mary H: Patagonian Welsh!!! Wow!!! That's what I purely love about the 'Cat -- ya learn so much. Can we count on a rendition? Peg -- I like Songs for All of Us!! Any more candidates for a CD Title?? Come on you Undying Literature Mongers!! Gyamme a Phrase!! Peter T, where are ya??? A |

Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: GUEST,RoryB (aka Blueslover59) Date: 21 Apr 02 - 07:04 PM A CD!!! What a wonderful idea!!! I can not think of a better candidate to represent the acoustic blues, on what is sure to be a fabulous collection of artists, than our own dwditty. For those of you who may not of heard him he is a great thumb style guitar player with an incredible voice. He is also a talented writer. Hop into paltalk to hear him sometime if you haven't already. Those of you who know his music will understand why I think he will be a wonderful addition on the mudcat CD. I can see it being a fabulous and eclectic collection ( gosh say that 5 times fast) of music and I look forward with great excitement at the outcome of this project. xoxoxox hugggss -Rory- P.S. My title idea.... "Music in the key of M" The Mudcat Collection Vol 1
|
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Peg Date: 21 Apr 02 - 05:58 PM I agree the "What do you think? I like it!" would be a great subtitle or even title. The only thing I have against the other one suggested is that it is too much like that old book "Rise Up Singing" and may have definite associations for some...but the sentiment behind it is nice. What about "Songs for All of Us"?

Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Mary Humphreys Date: 21 Apr 02 - 04:17 PM I know a beautiful song in Welsh from Argentina - more precisely from the Patagonian area where a lot of Welsh folks settled last century and took their culture with them. So what is wrong with an Argenitnian folk song Andres ? Go for it! Mary |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Escamillo Date: 21 Apr 02 - 04:11 PM Amos, I would like to contribute, but you know that I have never been in pure folk. I'm mainly a classical choral tenor in love with old spirituals and traditionals. Would some 70+ year old song, accompanied by piano, be ok ? Are these songs free from copyright hassle ? I'm thinking Amazing Grace, Shenandoah, or Love Song from Robeson's movie Sanders of the River (1930). If you prefer a typical Argentinean song, just tell me, but that could be out of the general orientation of the CD. I can obtain a technically good CD and MP3. Un abrazo - Andrés |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Amos Date: 21 Apr 02 - 03:48 PM Hey, I'm easy -- I'd rather wake up, rise up and sing than wake up, rise up, and go to the office! When I sing at the office they look at me funny. And I've had enough o' that!! And we're all a little wobbly one way or another. LOL!! Open to suggestions! Chocolate-covered Folk Songs! Step right up!! Meanwhile, get your cuts prepared, folkies -- it's only gonna be the best compilation ever seen -- imagine!! Folkies all over the planet just coming together and playing and singing 'cuz they feel like it and like each other. Wow!! Wodda concept!! **BG** A |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Lonesome EJ Date: 21 Apr 02 - 02:33 PM How about Mudcat Cafe Blue Plate Special! Somehow, "Wake Up, Rise Up and Sing!" seems a little too 1930s-struggling-workers for this crowd. (sorry Aine!) But its your call, Big A! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: DMcG Date: 21 Apr 02 - 01:57 PM Serendipy strikes - I'm rather taken with the "What do you all think? I Like it" as a subtitle! |

Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Amos Date: 21 Apr 02 - 05:45 AM I think two will do it, worst case. All the encouragement is to bring out the silent, raise up the slain, heal the dead, and bring them all out of silence, singing. In the final analysis we may get more then we can handle in one CD, but there are many catters out there who have not responded yet but who will when the sound of the trump penetrates! :>) If you have thought of it, but are waiting for a personal encouragement, please advise. Your package of personal encouragement is waiting here for you!! :>) I don't know everyone, so I may not think to write you all (and doubt I could!) but don't wait for that! Speak! Sing! Play! Record! Send!! Regards, A |

Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: treewind Date: 21 Apr 02 - 04:52 AM Alice, the spelling of the band with English John in it is Whorticulture Perhaps if you just take the 'E' out of the name as you spelt it, it will be accepted! Anahata |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Cappuccino Date: 21 Apr 02 - 04:43 AM Does America have an equivalent of our MCPS Limited Availability Product Licence? This takes care of copyright and royalties for short-run product. - Ian B |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Alice Date: 20 Apr 02 - 01:54 PM I do have some recordings of the Adventure tour. Will do my best to coordinate that.
By the way, folks, another issue brought to my attention is that music that is not in the public domain or that you do not have the rights to record could become problematic if we have to hassle with getting copyright permission. So, original work you created, works you have persmission to record from the copyright owners, and PUBLIC DOMAIN songs/tunes will be easiest to use. Alice |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Amos Date: 20 Apr 02 - 11:09 AM Oh, Wyo!! So glad you chimed in, I was about to write you! Skarpi is readying something. I LOVE the idea of the Sables & Alan tour cuts being included. And anyone who has other "Gathering" songs they think should be included, send them along too! No reason it has to be limited to single acts! It's gonna happen folks and folkies!! A Magical Mudcat Mystery Tour. Ya gotta be there!! A |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: WyoWoman Date: 20 Apr 02 - 11:05 AM Oh, oh. I wanna play. I wanna play. The person who was going to record my CD has had some very bad stuff come up personally and so that's down the tubes. I wonder if I have another likely suspect in my life who could record a couple of songs for me.... Hmmmphf.... lemmee see ... I'll find someone. Where there's a will, there's a contested settlement! Love and rockets, WW |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Alice Date: 20 Apr 02 - 10:14 AM Recordings from the MUDCAT ADVENTURE, when Bill Sables and Allan C traveled on the road trip to meet Mudcatters, would be a great addition to the compilation. I just wrote to Allan regarding this - I am sure he has recordings of Mudcatters they met and made music with, and others along the trail made their own recordings when Bill and Allan visited. I would like to hear the best from that road trip to include many of the people who played/sang when Bill and Allan visited.
Do we have Australians and Kiwis included yet? Members in Japan? Where is Skarpi? Joe Offer? Anyone reading this who can think of more people to include, please contact them and let them know of this opportunity. Alice |
Subject: RE: Mudcat CD II: Making It Real From: Amos Date: 19 Apr 02 - 11:09 PM Mudcatters All: Please don't put off readying some cuts for this CD! I don't want to miss any of your many amazing talents!! Step forward!! Lemme hear from ya!! Many thanks. Amos |
