Subject: oh my gosh, i just bought a seagull!!! From: mkebenn Date: 04 Mar 05 - 01:37 PM Ijust dropped off my '71 D-35 for a bridge reset and had no idea how long she'll be gone. I can not go without, so a back up was called for. I had decided on an AE style Ibanez as a replacement. I asked the salesperson if they had any used instruments and he asked me what I had in mind. I said "Well, have you got anything tasty?". He said "Well, I've got a guitar that the guy didn't take very good care of, but it's nice" and he handed me this Seagull.Serial number is blank, and under model number it just says CEDAR. Top shows effects of hard strumming, but otherwise she seems fine. Much brighter than my Martin, and not as deep. After a half hour introduction, I thought enough of her to buy a hard shell case. All told, 300US spent, and the time will be bearable 'till Marty's home. Mike |

Subject: RE: oh my gosh, i just bought a seagull!!! From: GUEST,Guest Ian Date: 04 Mar 05 - 03:13 PM I bought one in the mid nineties not long after they had been seen introduced into England, and although I up graded a few years ago I'm still well in love with it.Ive just started to use it again regularly for acoustic work. It just gets more and more mellow. Enjoy it. Ian |

Subject: RE: oh my gosh, i just bought a seagull!!! From: number 6 Date: 04 Mar 05 - 06:20 PM Great guitars mkebenn. Congrats! I have an s6. I bought it about 4 years ago. I have had some more expensive makes and I have let them go. I currently have the Seagull loaned out temporarily, but I assure you it will be back. It's a 'keeper'. All guitars sound better the more they age and play, but that s6 gets exceptionally sweeter. sIx |
Subject: RE: oh my gosh, i just bought a seagull!!! From: Gurney Date: 05 Mar 05 - 01:47 AM Sapper82, that was properly called 'British Seagull', by jingo. The nameplate read 'The best outboard motor for the world.' Just as long as you didn't want to get here fast, maybe. |
Subject: RE: oh my gosh, i just bought a seagull!!! From: kendall Date: 05 Mar 05 - 07:23 AM I recently had a chance to play a 12 string Seagull, and although no 12 string can equal my Apollo, I must admit that the Seagull was a very pleasant surprise. Bold , easy to finger, not a lot of bass, but it talked to me. |

Subject: RE: oh my gosh, i just bought a seagull!!! From: Muttley Date: 09 Mar 05 - 07:19 AM A Seagull??? The only seagull you'll find in good old 'Oz' is of the "winged rat" variety. Great for throwing rocks at - but obnoxious to have to put up with. Great fortune on your purchase - a true gem - it's always kinda nice to find these things when you least expect it. While living up in the country in Victoria, I taught, for a time in a VERY small private college - they had no music program at all so I just used to "jam" with the kids at lunch-times and after school (just drums and guitars & a bit of keyboard - drums & keyboard by kids - NOT me !!! No talent there; simply encouraging them with enthusiasm and my love of music to explore something other than rock 'n' roll. Located an old music-store in a back room where they had some instruments mouldering away with disuse - couldn't use them but didn't want anyone else to have them either; stingey bastards! However, over the course of a few weeks (knowing that the local , grossly underfunded Primary School NEEDED equipment for their EXCELLENT music program) I wheedled and cajoled a couple of really clapped out guitars and a half-a-dozen shabby-looking violins (2 x 3/4's and the rest full-size) out of them and took them to the head teacher at the Primary School. Fortunately he was kinda handy with instruments and restored them for the kids and wonder of wonders, two of the full-size violins were 19th century, created in Italy and had BEAUTIFUL sound. As far as I know the kids that learned on them and progressed were presented with their refurbished instruments before they went to high school at their Primary Graduation. The small, selfish private school went bust a few years after I left and was bought out and turned into a nudist camp of all things - and the music resources that they had when they sold the place??? They burned them all on a bonfire rather than pass them on with the property from what I was told later. They burned a lot of stuff that could've been passed on to others: Mongrels! Selfish, bloody mongrels! |

Subject: RE: oh my gosh, i just bought a seagull!!! From: gnu Date: 10 Jun 07 - 02:19 PM When a local music store was going out of business, I bought a "low-end" Seagull just to lone to people who dropped by without their guitar. Raises a lot of eyebrows. I never tell them what I paid, of course. |
Subject: RE: oh my gosh, i just bought a seagull!!! From: Big Mick Date: 10 Jun 07 - 04:54 PM Said it before, and I will say it again. My favorite guitar ever was a Seagull S6 with a cedar top. Sweet sounding, and had and action to die for. The more it aged, the sweeter it sounded. I loved that guitar and miss it today. Some of the best players I know would ask to play it. Mick |
Subject: RE: oh my gosh, i just bought a seagull!!! From: GUEST,the dude Date: 05 Oct 07 - 05:52 PM yeah a friend of mine has a seagull dreadnought that he swears by. I, however, liken it to solidified guano. Thin sound, very un-dynamic rosewood fingerboard, lack of balance. If I owned one, I'd sell it. Or take it camping. (If you ever run out of firewood, you know...) |
