Oh, dear. I seem to have stirred the pot a bit. Poked a stick in the proverbial hornets nest as it were. Time to take the gloves off and have at it I say. BTW, I didn't say "give yourself a hand" I said "give ourselves a hand." I suppose since it was ourselves it should have been hands, otherwise there wouldn't be enough to round. Of course, I don't get one anyway so that leaves it to the rest of you to fight it out. Go ahead, I'll just watch.

GUEST, KB, probably when you first went to the main forum page, the thread had had spam added which refreshed it, but by the time you clicked on it, the spam had been removed. Then if you went back to the main forum page using the back button, that would mean that main page still wasn't refreshed, but when you clicked on the thread again, of course it still showed up the way you saw it the first time.

I'll bet if you had refreshed the main page at any stage instead of using the back button, the thread would have been gone. Just a matter of timing. The clones don't leave the spam there very long.

So if spam was added and the thread came back onto the front page would it stay there even if the spam post was deleted? If so then that would explain it. There was no spam post at the end of the thread when I read it (listed as having 149 posts) but maybe it had already been removed.
That was me on 8 Nov @ 3:24 btw.

Possibly an easy answer to the disappearing thread is that it was refreshed by a spammer and when the spam was removed the thread dropped off again. That has happened with quite a few threads, only they usually refresh old music threads rather than BS ones.

one way to reach 85 billion is to introduce an extremely controversial concept like abortion or politics :) and get a bunch o' peeps with very strong opposing views, and let them battle it out for a few years. either that or hack the website and just pretend it reached 85 billion.

So on Monday I saw a thread about posting (as a guest) under multiple psuedonyms. The person who started the thread did this regularly and wondered what others thought about it. It was an interesting thread, most of the responses were negative but a couple of folks didn't mind or even did it themselves sometimes. After reading a few posts I saw that the thread was started in 2000. I got to the end (149 posts, I didn't read each of them all the way through) and realized that the last post on page three was from 2004. I thought maybe I had done something odd and that there must be a more recent post. I went back to the main forum page and the thread was still there with 149 posts. I got into it again and the last post was from 2004. I looked again later and the thread was gone. I don't remember the title or I would have searched for it (I might be able to find it anyway but haven't tried). I just thought the whole thing was kind of weird.
