What '60s? I went to sleep on December 31, 1959 and woke up January 1, 1970. I didn't know where I was. It was pink on the map, so it musta been Canada.

I remember the 50s - all jelly, football, Hancock's Half Hour, Take It From Here, and the lights coming back on after the 40s. And Matthews' Cup Final. And my first kiss, aged c. 9 - well the other boys forced me to kiss both twins they thought I was interested in. Then I could back to the important matter of playing football.

So if either of the Elder twins is reading this............

Yeah, but I really haven't seen that sort of thing (though I may now). I was thinking more in terms of the PM'ing and things like that. How much do people use the features that being a member unlocks?

I knew all about grass. Still do. It grows in my front and back yards, all around the Library, up in the hills, all over. There's big bluestem, gramma, blue, buffalo, fescue, rye, just all sorts of grass. I even have a special machine to cut it when it gets too tall.

Uh, not that I personally had any first-hand experience with the substance about which the book was written. But a friend of mine did and he told me all about it.

Also, I mentioned the vinyl record, "A Child's Garden of Grass." It is a hoot. Based on the book of the same name--I read that, too--and here is a review. The record after a hoot WAS a hoot.

I discovered this book at the library of the Catholic elementary school I went to around 1973. Yep, apparently the nun in charge of buying books was browsing the bestseller list and assumed from the title that it was a childrens' book. Ha haaaaw!! Rick D. and I checked it out in turns and loved it. Of course its content was soon discovered and it was removed from the library (no doubt incinerated), but Rick and I did a joint order (heh heh) to Pocket Books and got each of ourselves a copy. I haven't laid eyes on this title for nearly twenty years, but I can still quote it at length. Like the part that warns you not to get *too* good at rolling joints, because you'll end up sitting in the corner rolling your stupid joints while everyone is going down to the lake for skinny dipping. Or the intro, where the authors say they don't smoke grass and never have, everything in the book is based on what their friend "Ernie Lundquist" told them. Or that nothing is bad when you're stoned, except getting arrested, and even *that's* a learning experience. Or that the results of using a "steamboat" (their term for a big glass waterless bong) would make "even the mighty Zeus shake his head in disbelief." Or referring to the things you will do stoned and not get bored or feel silly, like picking lint off your dog or watching The Flying Nun. I actually think of this book often, after all this time. Highly recommended, even if you've never had a puff in your life (which is, looking back on the effects grass had on my life, my recommendation).

Somebody mentioned that book before, don't know if it was this thread or not. I would like to see it but can't imagine it's available. I would have really liked it about 20 years ago. I still have some things from that era that bring a smile to my face to this day.

I used to have a very funny book called A Child's Garden of Grass. Mind you, I didn't understand it -- I mean, why would you want to clean out the seeds? -- but I was told by very knowledgable people that it was hilarious.

Dosh = money   it is possible that it comes from the old symbols for British pre decimal currency i.e. D or Sh (pence or shillings)

Dough, moolah, rhino, spondulicks... there are more slang words for money than for anything else apart from sex and drink

more than you probably will ever need to know about words for money
