Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: GUEST,KB Date: 20 Oct 06 - 09:39 AM I live about 20 miles from the Mississippi well north of St. Louis. There are a lot of dams up this way but my brother canoed from somewhere in Minnesota to St. Louis so it can be done. He said he had a really good time. He didn't specifically mention the mud. BEAT THE MUD! |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Rapparee Date: 20 Oct 06 - 09:26 AM Tsk, tsk, tsk. Well, that can be cured. Just take a raft down the Mississippi from St. Louie to Nawlins or even further south. I'd suggest the whole river, but there's a bunch of dams above St. Louie. I will, in the interest of full disclosure and bad taste, note that when we sang that little ditty while in college we ofttimes substituted the word "meat" for "feet" and thereby added a whole new dimension to the song. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: JennyO Date: 19 Oct 06 - 11:45 PM You want mud songs? Here's one: The Hippopotamus Song Words by Michael Flanders Music by Donald Swann and Michael Flanders A bold Hippopotamus was standing one day On the banks of the cool Shalimar. He gazed at the bottom as it peacefully lay By the light of the evening star. Away on the hilltop sat combing her hair His fair Hippopotamine maid. The Hippopotamus was no ignoramus And sang her this sweet serenade. Mud! Mud! Glorious mud! Nothing quite like it for cooling the blood. So, follow me, follow, down to the hollow, And there let us wallow in glorious mud. The fair Hippopotamus he aimed to entice, From here seen on the hilltop above, As she hadn't got a ma to give her advice, Came tip-toeing down to her love. Like thunder the forest re-echoed the sound Of the song that they sang as they met. His enamorata adjusted her garter And lifted her voice in duet. Mud! Mud! Glorious mud! Nothing quite like it for cooling the blood. So, follow me, follow, down to the hollow, And there let us wallow in glorious mud. Now more Hippopotami began to convene On the banks of that river so wide. I wonder now what am I to say of the scene That ensued by the Shalimar side? They dived all at once with an ear-splitting splash, Then rose to the surface again, A regular army of Hippopotami All singing this haunting refrain. Mud! Mud! Glorious mud! Nothing quite like it for cooling the blood. So, follow me, follow, down to the hollow, And there let us wallow in glorious mud. |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: autolycus Date: 19 Oct 06 - 07:05 PM Why do so many not use the simple option re mudslinging namely; If you get mud slung your way, ignore it, pretend it didn't happen. Why bother responding (I think, for once 'reacting' is the right word), why bother reacting to every bit of mud slung? That may or may not mean that mud-slinging would eventually cease. Why allow yourself to get caught up in it? i don't like being ignored and I may be in the majority about that. I just think mud-slingers feed off reactions. And interestingly, from a psychological point of view, the recipient of 'mud' is probably not the REAL target anyway, (See Laura Huxley's book You are Not the Target. Ivor BTW. If we counter each letter we type as a separate post, might we hit the target? |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Peace Date: 19 Oct 06 - 05:26 PM I am with you, KB. FEED THE MUD! In a philosophical sense, mud is just dirt and water, but allegorically, it represents the tensions between wet and dry, transparent and opaque, up and down, over and out. It rhymes with cud and stud, blood and flood. It would rhyme with sud, but sud only comes in bunches or groups, gangs even. A gang of sud is suds. I mean, like when is the last time someone asked you if you wanted a glass of sud. Right. Never. You always get asked if you want suds. Put a layer of soap in the bath, and does it produce sud? NO, I say. NO! It produces suds. Does suds rhyme with mud? Again, NO. |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: IWTATBM Date: 19 Oct 06 - 05:19 PM It's still no clearer to me. Emma are you saying real mud is good and metaphorical mud is bad? Is that it? Or is some metaphorical mud good as well? It's all so confusing. I think I might quit this thread for a less complicated one.... Does anyone know a less complicated thread? |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: GUEST,KB Date: 19 Oct 06 - 05:18 PM I was thinking and a thought came to me. Mud, even when wielded in good fun, can produce tears and wailing and much gnashing of teeth among those struck by same. Perhaps this should be a mud free zone. Or maybe a free mud zone. Yes, that's it, Free The Mud! That is my new battle cry. FREE THE MUD! |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Peace Date: 19 Oct 06 - 05:17 PM That's just it. We open up the thread for mud, and because people are so damned contrary, none appears. Even saying something like, "Go stick yer head in the toilet and flush it twenty-three times, turd head!" will bring a response like, "Would it be OK to flush it three times instead? We have metered water here." This is the teflon thread. It may hit the fan, but it sure don't stick. |
