Can you be more specific KB? What's fun mud to you, may be funless to someone else. We need clear guidelines about good and bad mud so we don't invite the bad mud types. Peace needs to be in on this one so he can clarify things on his (our) sister thread. I won't sleep tonight I'm sure.

So do I take it that we don't want mud-slingers on the 85 billion thread? If this is the case I think Peace ought to make this clear on his 'Ne'er-do-wells' thread, so we don't mislead the mud-slingers who are considering posting here. I mean once we've got them it wouldn't then be fair to tell them to get lost would it? I might feel obliged to defend their right to sling, even when I detest what they are slinging. No, this matter definitely needs clearing up, and fast.

(Not) at (all). I (myself) simply do(n't) visit that thread (Shamble's) since I (personally) think that there's far (far) too much dissension (or mud-slinging) around here (the 'Cat) anyway.

Re: Shambles and his detractors (and the defenders he has picked up), I would rather keep that on the other side of the fence. The same thought has occurred to me and it is a fascinating thread (except when it gets boring) but I don't think I want to get to 85 Billion that badly, and getting to 85 Billion has become my all consuming passion. It's worse (or better) than on-line gambling. Did I use too many parenthetical comments (they can be annoying)?

in 'most' of the world, every 3 zeros gets a new name. Besides being more consistent, it saves a LOT of ink. ;>)

million, billion, trillion, quadrillion, quintillion, sextillion, septillion, octillion..etc..

about big numbers Note, it lists 'traditional' British usage and 'modern' British usage.

Numbers larger than quadrillion usually are done in scientific notation, anyway. 10²³

Happy to help here. Altho' lots of the Brit media seems sold on the US definition of a billion, properly in the UK,85,000,000,000 is eighty-five thousand million.

So that way, we don't get to a billion until a million million. A bit before that, we have e.g. 345,000,000,000 (three hundred and forty-five thousand million), etc.etc. Thus there's no race to get the kudos, sexiness, show-offness of "A    BIIIIIIILLIONNNNNN" unnecesssarily soon.

That way, a billion THEN has REAL bigness.

Ans 85 billion posts would be a real achievement. Calling a thousand million (1,000,000,000) a billion smacks of insecurity and excessive hurry.

I am trying to help! My suggestion for flavorings (a/k/a/ flavourings) was obviously thought to be less than serious. Let me tell you a true story. Many years ago, I rented two rooms in a big house I owned to friends of mine. A block away was a "Tastee Freeze"..similar to Dairy Queen, but trying to compete by offering weird selections of stuff, including 20-30 hamburger toppings and 50 flavors of milkshake.

One day my friend D.W. said he was going to the Tastee....my other friend T.R said, "hey...bring me a milkshake!" D.W. said "What kind?"...T.R. said, "Oh, I don't care...surprise me!" WRONG THING TO SAY! D.W. tried to get a 'real' answer, but to no avail, so off he went, with malice aforethought.
   At the counter he ordered for himself, then said "Oh, by the way...give me an Almond-Sauerkraut milkshake."
The owner asked him twice if he was serious, then made it...but refused to put it in a labled cup, and used a plain, unmarked one!

....So, D.W. handed T.R. his milkshake, waiting for the gasp and choking. Nothing... then T.R. said, "Interesting...what is it?" When told, he said..."well, it's different, but not bad."

Moral..."IT HAS ALREADY BEEN TRIED---SOMEWHERE!" ...and enough folks like T.R. would just shrug and never notice or care! But if you put it on the menu, they'd never order it either.

Now, how about some REAL ideas for making a fortune...like guitar capos which will double as blood pressure gauges!

Think of it this way. Anyone can make a milk shake. But how many people will actually make an Anchovy Milkshake at home? How many folks have? Answer: fewer than 1/10 of 1/10 of 1%. In real figures, 127 people if you include Dave the Doorman at the Chelsea Hotel who had a penchant for a fish flavour with his strawberries and fresh dairy cream. He was a strange guy who was waaaay ahead of his time in the year 1967. But how could anyone walk/skate/bike/jog or drive past an establishment that specializes in the product? Answer: almost NO one. It is the secret desire of every professional athlete to have--but, that's in the future, just like tomorrow and next week.

Well, yea. But anyone can make a milkshake with beer. Ours will have milk in it. Just think of it as a novelty item with tremendous market potential. But people will come back for more and more because of the taste. True, they may not be all that impressed at first, but after twenty or thirty Sardine Shakes with just the Merest Hint of Garlic, they will be hooked.
