Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 17 Sep 09 - 10:46 AM Yes, Pete, reporting happens with some frequency. But no, there is no statute on the books creating a specific crime of "identity theft". However, the activities of those behind the clones are actionable on several bases under UK law and also on some similar and some different bases under federal and/or state US law. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: melodeonboy Date: 17 Sep 09 - 10:36 AM Very close, Pierre. It was, in fact, "Buster". But I meant it in the negative sense of someone with an unappealing or miserable face! |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: melodeonboy Date: 17 Sep 09 - 04:58 AM "Fakebook is a derogatory term used for Facebook." I call it "Faceache"! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: GUEST,Ken Date: 17 Sep 09 - 04:31 AM No I understood you were not accusing me of anything; it was just I did not understand what it was all about. I thought Fakebook must be an alternative site but got lots of google returns about music books-lead sheets and the like. Any way I am not sure what he hopes to achieve by picking up on my comments about the photos. I shall look on Facebook- I do have a log in but don't use the site. I hope you were able to view the disc of last septembers photos. Ken |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 16 Sep 09 - 09:39 PM Hi Ken. Fakebook is a derogatory term used for Facebook. You need an account to be able to see the facebook profiles. One such is Sam Hudson who expresses himself (or herself) to be a BNP supporter. He has been one of a number who have been picking up things posted here (anti-BNP things), and altering them to express support for the BNP, and then posting the altered stuff to other Facebook groups or as messages to other (self-styled) BNP supporters' "walls" on Facebook - as if they came from one of the opponents here of the BNP. It is dishonest and in some cases apparently threatening. I thought you might be concerned that one of your own postings here, one that appears to have been for non-political purposes, had been subverted in this way. On this occasion I was not accusing you of anything. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: GUEST,Ken Date: 16 Sep 09 - 07:34 PM Sorry Richard but I don't understand. Never heard of Fakebook or Sam Hudson; I just googled them but got a Mudcat thread " Catters on Facebook" pop up. Ken |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 16 Sep 09 - 05:05 AM Thanks for guitar advice Richard very helpful. My friend uses Olive oil rather the Lemon oil,but for some reason I do not like the sound of Olive Oil, Sounds like a cheap substitute for Lemon oil. So I follow what you said. Re Knife. Silver butchers knife has burn stain half way across blade. Hand held sharpener, and a Carving knife grooved/ serrated blade. I think it looks like a set. 'Some one saw me struggling trying to slice the beef joint with a blunt knife prior to meal and I was making a "Right Pigs Ear of it" (I forgot to take me Knife sharpener to Knockholt. The Person/s reappeared with the above. The knifes are very sharp and done the slicing of the meat very well; Trouble is I cannot remember who the person was who brought them over so I am not sure if they are HIS/HERS or worse somebody else's they borrowed from. Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 15 Sep 09 - 07:43 PM Ken, I think your post has been picked up by one of those who watch us, in that Sam Hudson is saying on his wall on fakebook that he will be emailing photos of Knockholt Forever Autumn. Pierre, are the knives and sharpener a set? If not the black handles butcher knife MIGHT be mine, I will check in the morning As to guitar, since it is normal to take tension off guitars for shipping I do nto think leaving your strings off for a wee will hurt. I: - 1. remove strings 2. oil fingerboard with lemon oil 3. clean frets and machine heards with duraglit or brasso 4. remove residue 5. clean body and back of neck and all headstock with silicone-free guitar polish. Do NOT use waxy furniture polish. You can use a damp cloth with a soap solution but not a wetting agent like Fairy liquid, or (testing on a hidden bit first) white spirit or even meths (be careful, some finishes are dissolved by meths). Do not use kitchen polyroll, use soft bogroll (compare on a sensitive bit of person to examine why) 6. clean nut slots with either fine string or dental tape or the old strings 7. sometimes lift saddle and clean slot 8. re-oil fingerboard 9. re-string |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 15 Sep 09 - 04:27 PM Hi Folks, I have come across a Kitchen Knife (butchers) and a Carving knife and Sharpener that is not mine. They have Black handles and silver blades how it got mixed up with my equipment is beyond me but i recall it being used to slice the silver side of beef i got for the saturday night meal. I only found them today when I took the cutlery out of soak and sharpened my knifes. If you are missing the above please let me know and I will do my very best to get them back to you has quickly has possible. Linda Re Lavender I have stacks of the stuff if you want anymore I will bring some to folkmob tomorrow night. ______Guitar advice----- Will it hurt my Tanglewood if I refrained from putting new strings on it for a while and left it with no strings on at all. After Knockholt the strings were finished and the guitar was filthy. Both the string groves in the nut and the bridge were full of crap. The frets are tarnished and need cleaning and polishing the neck needs oiling and the body needs a damn good clean up and brightening up. should I keep the strings on to maintain tension or will it be ok to take them off and proceed with the work. In the mean time I have gone back to playing the Clarissia which has been Rogered so I will use that in the stead. Kind Regards to all Pierre. My concern is that with out strings on it for a week this may affect the action or worse. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 14 Sep 09 - 10:42 AM TAM. Tarragon Rosemary an Thyme go lovely together. Remember to bash the herbs or crush them and the flavors will be much stronger, With shop brought dried herbs if one is not certain what herbs goes with what herbs you can make a easy taster to check. Get a small bowl. Place a Level Table spoon of Dried herbs you want to test in the bowl. With a Level Tablespoon of Flour, Add 2 teaspoons of Milk until creamy. you have now created a creamy herb sauce? (it should have the consistency of yogurt) Put it in the fridge for half hour, Take out of fridge and taste with a Tea spoon or on a piece of bread. If your eyes shoot out your Ears-holes and your Bum collapses you know the herbs do not mix. Seriously though be minimal but equal with every ingredient and taste gingerly. Regards Pierre. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 14 Sep 09 - 10:12 AM To those at Knockholt I was talking to about Lavender? Now is the time to get out in the garden and dead head the Lender pods. After the sun and high winds they have dried a treat and come of the stem easy. Run your fingers up the lavender stem with a cupped hand and the pods will collect in your hand. When I was a kid back in the stone age there was a game I played with Grass called Cake or candle,..........(Not that Grass) Thats how you remove the pods. I picked a Carrier Bag full today from my garden brought the Lavender indoors placed them in trays lined with Kitchen paper and have left them on window cill,s all round my home. I put it to you it quite overpowering through out the house and the smells wonderful. |

"Something funny, as usual," said Cummings. "Yes," I replied; "I think even you will say so this time. It's concerning you both; for doesn't it seem odd that Gowing's always coming and Cummings' always going?" Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 08 Sep 09 - 05:47 AM I was very undecided. I am now fairly decided, Captain Indecisive, that's me. My present plans are (a bit like "eats, shoots, and leaves") are to arrive Weds AM and plan and/or foodshop with Pete, go to a Davey Rumsey gig in Maidstone Weds eve, either come straight back or kip at home in which case return Thurs AM, cut up logs if necessary (never drink before using chainsaws or axes), relax Thurs eve, drink but not to excess in case of need to defend Fri, stay sober help cook and eat Sat and depart before Elton John's song comes true on Saturday Night. But I may be less tense by then. Last I heard of Gril Friday the bruising from her fall was coming out which prevented her getting to Faversham (too much walking anyway) and was feared to prevent her Knocking. At Chaversham Essex Girl was (if I correctly recall) going to be coming, so to speak. I'll txt KtC and Dilligaf. |

And tender nettle leafs, I suggest, goes into any side veg dish to. Throw in some butter and a bit of Garlick and Bobs your Uncle. The Nettle will only sting from the stem which is worse because the stinging cells atre longer and the leaf eadges. If you place you thumb and finger on the flat of the leaf they wont sting. Right sod nettles some thing much more interesting. My Blood blister which is cockney slang for sister has given me a bottle of Christmas Cracker. It comes in a funny bottle and has 37%Alc Vol. its a burgandy Red colour and has lots of bits floating about in it. Does anyone know what it is and above what it tastes like? Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 05 Sep 09 - 12:50 PM Having read some of RB's comments previously posted elsewhere (as re-posted here by Ken below) I feel they were indeed rather inappropriate, and it's not the kind of thing that I'd advocate, but IMO those comments were also quite obviously meant without seriousness, and were not genuinely proposing any form of Mob Rool or violence. It's a bummer that this subject was ever raised here in the first place, and equally unfortunate that RB's (not very helpful admittedly, but equally totally throwaway IMO) comments posted elsewhere, have now been dragged onto here too (instead of such personal grievances having been dealt with privately). But for what it's worth, I really don't believe RB was on a personal mission of vendetta in this matter regards Knockholt, for enough of us already independently supported the (IMO laudable) principles of the FaF campaign (as indeed I will continue to do). So, let those who wish to support FaF, do so. Let those who choose to support the BNP, do so likewise. And let those who want to be fecked off, be fecked off - it's still a free fecking country after all! But no-body's democratic rights or freedoms have been restricted, and there's no Mob bar Folkmob. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: GUEST,Pierre Le Chapeau. . Date: 05 Sep 09 - 10:06 AM Hi folks to answer a query from a earlier posting. My son Gavin has decided to give this knockholt a miss. It was to be his first knockholt . Last weekend when he came to stay with me he was asking endless questions and was quite excited about he whole thing. He having read this thread, phoned me up this morning and said dad I think I will give Knockholt a miss this time and go in June next year. In the stead he has decided to go to paint ball with his friends. I did not push the issue because has a 19 year old I believe he should choose what he wants to do and above all be final about it. The people who give me a lift to knockholt are also not going which means I shall now have to travel by public transport to get to the field which can be done and done many a time before but it will not enable me to get to the field early enough to make sure the Porta loos are placed where they should be and make sure the fire is ready for lighting for the Wednesday night . I doubt I will be at the field much before 1300hrs now. Finally Chrissey my Polish friend wants to come on the Saturday. But I have decided I am going to pack up and leave the field before the Saturday night starts for I have to go to work on the Sunday so I must get home in order to make that arrangement So No chrissey wont be coming. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: VirginiaTam Date: 05 Sep 09 - 06:43 AM I like the idea of being tolerant. The reason I am a "recovering" Baptist, is because I found their intolerance of anyone who did not think and behave in prescribed way, repugnant. I am surprised how easy it is for me to assimilate to mob mentality, however 'righteous' that mob might be. It is human nature to want society of others, to want to belong, but it must be tempered with what your mind, soul, . good conscience can live with. I try to maintain the "There but for the grace of (name your deity or not) go I" state of mind. While I will not apologise for comments and replies I made re the BNP, I am heartily sorry to have caused hurt to individuals. I may be naive, but I will always hope individuals will reconsider their point of view regards the group they choose to associate with and examine the experiences and thoughts that brought them to that association. Blessings to all including those who do not think the way I do. :0) |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: GUEST,Ken Date: 04 Sep 09 - 08:26 AM I have not so far made comment on any of the posts I have seen so far on Mudcat but I think now I must after reading Richard Bridges post of 1 September 09 which I will come to later. It is very regrettable to read such hysterical nonsense. First I need to apologise to Richard Bridge for playing my music too loud for him but let me correct him; it was not Metalica (I am not a fan); it was either Deja Vu by CSN&Y, Bayou Country by Credence Clearwater Revival or Desire by Bob Dylan or maybe even The Southern Harmony by the Black Crowes that was being played that day in September 2008. What happened was that we arrived on the field and I turned up the music so I could hear it whilst setting up the tent, I did not think it was loud enough to carry to the other side of the field; it was not being played in total disregard of everyone else, maybe the wind was carrying it. Mick Ford came over and said someone was complaining about it so it was turned down. Richard Bridge could have approached me himself at the time or after and I would have said sorry but he never did. That night in the marquee I was astonished to hear Richard Bridge launch a diatribe against "Chavs" or maybe it was "White Chavs" in which he proceeded to vilify a whole section of society, because, in my opinion, they have not been gifted with the same academic ability, educational opportunities or social upbringing as himself. Maybe the whole thing was clandestinely directed at me-I do not know. The allegation of calling someone a "Diddy" is not correct. I am not familiar with the term Diddy or Dids and never said it. What Richard Bridge is referring to is the word "Pikey". What was said was not meant to be insulting or malicious. I innocently thought I was involved in a bit of light hearted banter with someone. The comment was said, as I believed, in a tongue in cheek jocular manner. I had no intention of it being anything other than that. It was never my intention of giving offense and had no idea that I had done so until after the June 2009 Knockholt when I first read the posts on Mudcat. At no time did Richard Bridge or anyone approach me about this in September 08 or June 09. I am truly sorry if this offended this person and I had hoped to make an apology and explain myself at Knockholt this September. Had I really wanted to insult someone then I would have done it to the person, however I really am not the sort of person who does go around insulting people. It is a shame that Richard Bridge could not have spoken to me about it but chose instead make the allegations public on the internet whilst giving me no chance of redress. Subject: RE: BS: BNP: What would you do? From: Richard Bridge Date: 21 May 09 - 04:29 AM There is a person with whom I am acquainted who used to attend a folk ale to which I go. Recently (ish) she has developed a relationship with a piece of scum on legs, and has even canvassed and stood for the BNP. The scum and its spawn came very close to wrecking the folk ale - Mercedes with doors open and wireless blaring Metallica, homophobic remarks to a gay friend of mine, "Well you're all just a bunch of dids aren't you?" to a Romany participant (who scored well with the reply "When you can tell me what it means it may be worth discussing it with you"). I can't separate that behaviour from the person. Richard Bridge as decided to act as Judge, jury and executioner. He has assumed much about me without ever speaking to me, he has presumed to tell everyone I am a BNP member although he has never been shown a BNP membership card by myself. He has even thought it appropriate to post theats of violence such as: Subject: RE: Knockholt - This Is Summer! - June 2009 From: Richard Bridge Date: 21 May 09 - 06:53 AM The BNP members with the Mercedes aren't coming are they? Soddit, I'll bring my chainsaw and axes anyway... and Subject: RE: Knockholt - This Is Summer! - June 2009 From: Richard Bridge Date: 16 Jun 09 - 10:15 AM Water, Lady Raffles? What do you want water for? I thought that pale liquid you drank was white wine. (EDIT) List: (of things to bring to Knockholt) Kukri, Kris, and/or baseball bat in case the BNP turn up With regards to Richard's post on 1st of September 2009 to Roberta; I hope he is not intimating that I was using the "P and N" words at Knockholt, if anyone does then it is a lie. I can produce any number of black and asian people to testify to my character. I have a number of gay and lesbian friends and in the 1980's help nurse two gay friends whilst they were dying from Aids. I was also awarded a Royal Human Society award for risking my life whilst saving an African boy. Roberta and I came along to Knockholt not as some sort BNP infiltration or right wing folk conspiracy but to listen to good music and to enjoy the company. I have not mentioned politics and have no wish to. Whether I and Roberta are members of the BNP or not should not have been an issue and this nonsense should never have come to fruition. What has happened is that Richard Bridge has out of his own personal spite decided to conduct a witch hunt against me for playing my CD player too loud and has attempted to rope in the rest of the Knockholt crowd against Roberta and myself under the Folk against Fascism banner. Royston was entirely right in suggesting keeping politics out of Knockholt. The whole thing has caused a lot of upset which was totally avoidable right from the start. I totally accept that my comment was wrong even though I had not meant it to be taken so and offer a full apology. Ironically I found I enjoyed Richard's performances most of all and I was looking forward to hearing Richard Bridge again - even after reading his comments after the June Knockholt. Unfortunately I will not be there to see it, not because of threats of banners on the gate or tee shirts being worn or baseball bats but because the fun as now been taken from it for me. Hopefully Roberta will change her mind and go. It's been a sad thing to see this unfold and I don't bare any animosity to anyone, not even to Richard Bridge. I am not going to post any further comments on this site. I hope that this can now be an end to this subject. I hope that everyone has a great Knockholt. Ken |

B of E, I'd *love* to hear Lord Franklin. One of the first ever 'folk' songs I recall hearing from a Pentangle album many, many moons ago.. And as to giant breasts - be they fluorescent (finally learned how to spell it) merely colourful or otherwise quite undecorated: "My bonny bosoms are big-enough-already, but a' growing..." Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: VirginiaTam Date: 02 Sep 09 - 02:00 PM We love you PlC. A little chaos is a good thing. Melodeonboy your shirts remind me of the hallucinations those "don't do drugs" films they showed me in school. Stuff of nightmares. Now to clarify the giant fluorescent breasted women reference. I did not mean to say that I have giant florescent breasts. More that I am a woman (last time I checked the hormones were still on low simmer). I am leaning towards giant size generally thanks to hormones and age and other things. And I have breasts which may or may not be giant depending upon perspective of the wearer (that's me) and the viewer (who ever dares). Some may think moderate in proportion to rest of me. I think gigantic in bloody nuisance of carrying them about and finding a place for them when I play guitar. Now that's clear as mud, innit? And speaking of mud, given the current weather forecast who is up for mud wrestling? Oh dear, beer bellied bearded folkie men in thongs slithering about in the mud. My my sweet dreams for me tonight. |

This is common to discussion forums in regards to misinterpretations of what is written and what the person behind the post is trying to say. Indeed I am very defensive when it comes to Knockholt and will defend it against outside intrusion. I feel much more reassured now that everything will be alright this September and I do feel some what SHEEPISH about the Choas I have caused. I did it for the reasons above and for the terrific people that attend and that I have got to know, trust and befriended over the last 10 years. My appetite has returned and so has my looking forward to playing and having fun at this great little the event. Peace and kind regards to everyone Pierre. Dear Tam, and any other distressed parties, I think for the purposes of peace it's absolutely essential that I clarify that the image of "decorated tits" I posted was not in any way intended to undermine the value or worth of "giant flourescent breasts." Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 02 Sep 09 - 04:33 AM Royston, I am not "being this way" with Pete. I have said above that since those with (apparently) the right to decide have ruled out a FaF banner on the Knockholt gate or in the Knockholt marquee (something I find rather in the Chamberlain mould) there is a middle ground in that they have not said that we may not wear FaF t-shirts or display FaF banners or logos. Likewise I have not sought to overturn Simon's bar on a FaF banner at the GI, and although caravans do not happen there, there is no ban AFAIK on wearing a FaF t-shirt there. What Pete said about the GI was incorrect. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: VirginiaTam Date: 02 Sep 09 - 04:05 AM Lovely dysfunctional family stuff going on here. This whole thread has devolved due to cross threading and some serious misunderstandings. I want you boys to shake hands and make up or I will have to become the "MAMMA" and believe me nobody wants me to do that. If I make it (still considering the wisdom of attending) I will be there with decorated tits. But I won't be making any kind of statement other than a silly reference to giant flourescent breasted women. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Royston Date: 02 Sep 09 - 03:26 AM Richard, I'm not sure why you're being this with way PlC. Growler runs the GI sessions, you asked him for a banner, he said "This is folk without politics", and you really rather meekly acquiesced. So Pete has a fair question when he asks you why you have such a different view towards Simon's GI than you do towards a constitutionally anti-racist group like Folkmob. I sugges you do it in Private Mail, this thread is already off-topic enough and is not a discussion about BNP candidates or policies. Once and for all, Folkmob is constitutionally inclusive and prohibitive of racist or offensive behaviours. No banners, no lectures no sermons in music sessions. People are free to decorate tents, guitars, caravans, t-shirts, tits or arses in whatever tokens of allegiance they choose. Now, aren't we all agreed on that? JB, please take a deep breath and read through this thread again. As a friend, whether you realise it or not, I think you need to take time out. If you can act this way with someone like PlC, one of the most decent blokes you'll ever meet, then people are right to be quite worried about what mayhem you could cause with others over this issue. It seems, I stress *seems* that you're so fired up over this issue that you're likely to descend upon this small, private (NOT A COMMERCIAL FESTIVAL) gathering in a field like some avenging angel of liberal fury, and that would be entirely inappropriate. If this is not the right impression then I would be relived to hear you correct me and give others some reassurance. Many thanks. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 01 Sep 09 - 09:48 PM Unusual for me to be pointing out that there is middle ground, as I said above, namely: - No banner on gate No banner on marquee No rules (apart from Folkmob constitution, if applicable) on personal apparel or caravan banners or displays. Pete, I am not aware of Karen and Dal having had any input into the exchange about the Good Intent concert night, as you cite above. Nor am I aware of their having any applicable constitution that is in any way similar to the Folkmob constitution cited above, nor am I aware of there being any ban at the GI on t-shirts of any kind, although your position seems to have moved from opposition to a gate (or marquee) banner at Knockholt to opposition to antifascist apparel, or any other antifascist expression. In that you seem to go further than Mick's presentation of the "official line" (as above) that "a group of adults will not always agree". |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 01 Sep 09 - 09:47 PM John I Lost it Re earlier posting. I give up. Who am I to say if you come or not? Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Royston Date: 01 Sep 09 - 06:56 PM Sue, I think it was established a while back that Folkmob's constitution explicitly prohibits racist/offensive behaviour and supports inclusiveness and diversity. The club regards those statements as all that is necessary to ensure a good and harmonious atmosphere. Beyond that, there are no politics to be done here. Just drinking, music and generally getting on together. If anyone wants to tatto their face or arse or whatever with FaF logos then good on you, go for it. Great. Lovely. Smashing. Super. Bully's star prize. No objection. People often demand the freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought, which they seldom use. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Girl Friday Date: 01 Sep 09 - 06:44 PM I have thus far kept out of this debacle, but I abhor racism, as much as the next person. We do have the freedom of speech in this country. Is there a problem with anyone expressing their views graphically? And, moreover, is there a danger of anyone who expresses their views graphically being banned from the field? Sue |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: The Barden of England Date: 01 Sep 09 - 06:42 PM I have in NO WAY mentioned politics in any of this. If any one of you can show me where I have mentioned POLITICS then please point me there. Neither have I mentioned, nor named, names or pointed fingers in any direction. All I want to do is show my support for FaF. For those who are unaware it is an organisation who are opposed to Folk Music being sold as though it was supporting a British only cause, which I find disciminatory and unpleasant in the extreme. Those who believe I have mentioned any political parties are reading things that just aren't there. Peter - regarding 'The Good Intent', it was not Dal who said no, so please get that right. He will be approached in due time as it's up to him and Karen whether it will or will not be allowed. Once again, please get this right - IT IS NOT POLITICS, it is my privilege to support a non political cause which is trying to ensure that my, and other songwriters music, is not used by Fascist and Racists for their nefarious ends. I'm coming, pure and simple, like it or lump it!! John Barden |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 01 Sep 09 - 06:38 PM Gavin and Chrissey had no political views. Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 01 Sep 09 - 06:21 PM "I am assuming that the hysteria being whipped up on this thread is aimed at myself and Ken." I'd like to clarify a couple of things. I didn't even know you existed Roberta. I had no idea there was a candidate for the BNP on here! For what it's worth, I've certainly expressed no hatred towards members of the BNP on those political threads elsewhere on the board that have evidently angered you enough to quit Knockholt. But if you can't handle people strongly disagreeing with your views on a discussion board, then IMO politics is really the wrong business to be in. And again, I believe there was no mention whatever of politics on this thread, before PLC informed us that a couple of people had decided to boycott Knockholt, due to their "clashing political views". |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: VirginiaTam Date: 01 Sep 09 - 04:23 PM from guest Roberta... More disappointing still is the fact that newcomers like Crow Sister, Virginia Tam and Silent One now seek to turn this non-political event in a direction that it's founders never sought or wish it to go Read all the posts, please. We "newcomers" are only supporting posts made by long time Knockholt attendees. And please do not take them out of context to suit your argument. Not one of us has stated that we want to hold forth a political agenda at Knockholt. We have only supported other's wishes to display their views on the topic of FaF. I have and had no intention to "wear" my beliefs on my sleeve or car or insturment at Knockholt. But I would not like being told that I may not. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 01 Sep 09 - 04:17 PM Through out this I have tried to make reason and peace both on thread and through PMs to people. After all that has been said and done and the now out come I will not be coming to the field first thing Wednesday has planned. Instead I will attend the Folk mob singaround prior to the event "IN ORDER TO TRY AND REGAIN SOME FOCUS ON WHAT KNOCKHOLT IS ALL ABOUT I will arrive on the field Thursday/Friday. I have completely had enough and lost me appetite to BOTH cook & play. I am not racist, political, and if i believed in any God I would be deluded. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 01 Sep 09 - 03:42 PM Roberta, they were from people closely associated with you. As was the "Did" reference. It was you I heard promulgating racist BNP policy, in the Marquee, last September. You may remember I walked off, uttering words of distaste. Sue, since you have seen what the BNP can do with coded references to you and distortion of your pictorial image, I am surprised that the banning of FaF banners on the gate or in the marquee was carried nem. con. - and I also do not understand why if the Folkmob no longer carries any cost of the event (which I think is true) that decision is up to Folkmob. I note however that you have not indicated a Folkmob (if that be the touchstone) bar on FaF caravan banners or t-shirts, so that may well be a reasonable compromise, if one wishes to sup with the devil. I can live with that. Yes, a pleasant dinner party atmosphere would be nice. But what do you do with the guest who craps in the soup - or the guest who points it out? If at your dinner party a guest called another "a Did" (or a Yid) would you not ask him to leave? What would you do with the intervening guest who said that such things were not appropriate? Ask them not to rock the boat? This is of course hypothetical if my reading above is correct, but may come to be an issue in the future. We know what is done if someone drinks too much cider and then strips off in another guest's bedroom. We know waht is done to a freeloader who occupies another's tent, too. I hope we can extrapolate. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Royston Date: 01 Sep 09 - 03:27 PM Roberta, As Richard pointed out, I am strongly in favour of "no politics" at Knockholt. I have never heard you say anything offensive. Other people, whom I respect and trust, have been offended by your "dids" commnents and I'm unhappy about that. Since learning that you stood as a BNP candidate it's clear to me that I could never have anything in common with you, all we could ever do is disagree about the most fundamental aspects of life and belief and country. So I choose not to have a lot to do with you. I reckon that's honest and fair enough. There are lots of people that I wouldn't choose to take a drink with and I reckon that there are a lot of people entitled to feel the same way about me. It's a big enough world, and a big enough field at Knockholt (if we all keep our counsel) If you doubt my sincerity about this then talk to your brother, we've had a lot of discussion about these issues (because he knows my views) a long time before any of this recent stuff erupted. As another BNP candidate on this board discovered, if you stand up in the glare of national publicity and swear allegiance to a set of political and social beliefs which the majority of people find abhorrent then you really must expect a lot of people to choose, at least, to want to avoid you. For making that choice I respect your commitment to your cause, but not much else really. That's just the way things are. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Lady Raffles Date: 01 Sep 09 - 02:34 PM Just to set the record straight Knockholt isn't our event, it's now a Folkmob event and has been for many years, but obviously we still have a great personal interest in it's continued success and wouldn't want to see it change too much from how it was in the early day's - a bunch of mates sitting around in a field making our own entertainment and having a good time, as simple as that. What Mick didn't mention in his message last night was that the Folkmob committee had a meeting last Thursday and one of the subjects we'd been asked to discuss was the request for an FAF banner to be hung on the gate to the field or on the marquee, everyone present at the meeting felt that it wouldn't be appropriate for Knockholt. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: GUEST,Roberta Woods Date: 01 Sep 09 - 02:29 PM Richard, Am I to be held responsible for any utterances of the 'n' or 'P' words at Knockholt? Have you heard any of the same from my mouth? I would never be so crude. Anyway, I'm out of this. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 01 Sep 09 - 01:52 PM Roberta, you have apparently not been listening to some of the things that I have heard said at Knockholt. The one that I think shocked me most was "Well you're all just a bunch of dids really". But I have also heard the n word and "Paki". I have also heard BNP arguments, put expressly as BNP arguments, about immigration. You should note that Mick apparently supports the view that politics should be left at the gate. You should also note that Royston expressly takes that view, and you should not (as you do) state otherwise. The Silent One has nowhere suggested that you should be unable to say whatever you wish to say (presumably within the confines of polite society, which should exclude ugly racism and threats and of course criminal speech). His post above expresses concern that "Folk against Fascism" (which by its nature is intended to resist the arrogation of folk for political purposes, by fascists) should be gagged. There is some right-wing folk and neofolk (but not much): Peter Bellamy did some, Harvey Andrews "the Soldier" is accounted that way by some, Chalky White's singing of some military songs could be viewed that way, and there is the output of David Hannam and pals. Oh, I know of a couple of anti-union songs that Simon Barlow sings. But AFAIK there is not much more. The only racist folk songs I know are very old and stem from a period regrettably when antisemitism was an everyday part of England, and they are few. There is some gung-ho Americana. Most of the body of 1954 folk and neofolk is robustly leftist, the former rejoicing in the small triumphs of man over master (despite ostensible forelock-tugging), and the latter the liberation of man from master. This is not a body of work that it apt to be occupied, as the BNP writings set out as a plan, by racists, to use as a banner for white supremacists. In that sense, the "Folk against Fascism" slogan is perfecly just, and reflects (but more politely) the insignia on Woody Guthrie's guitar "This machine kills fascists". It is a great deal less antisocial than putting golliwogs on the fire. It seems to me that if, as I understand it still to be the case, Folkmob no longer subsidises the event, the only people with the standing to say what may or may not (or should or should not) be said or done are Mick and Sue. You should see the drafts I prepared (no charge) of what a prudent lawyer should impose as "site rules" to see how far such rules should extend, but they go a great deal further than teh Folkmob diversity policy - which WOULD preclude some of the things I have heard said at Knockholt. It is then up to potential attendees to decide whether they will attend and comply - or not. If it be the case that Sue and Mick's rules preclude the wearing of FaF t-shirts or bannering ones vardo or bender with a FaF banner, then there will be a number who will face a decision whether to attend or not. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: GUEST,Roberta Woods Date: 01 Sep 09 - 12:58 PM As Richard says, this is Mick and Sue's event, and having enjoyed their hospitality at several Knockholts, I would not want my continued presence to be a source of embarassment or discomfort to them and will therefore not be going next week. I admit to being truly shocked at the level of vicious hypocrisy and intimidating bullying evident on this and the FaF threads - and all in the name of tolerance, diversity and liberty |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: GUEST,Roberta Woods Date: 01 Sep 09 - 12:50 PM In the absence of any concrete evidence (no names have been forthcoming),I am assuming that the hysteria being whipped up on this thread is aimed at myself and Ken. For my part, I have never knowingly mentioned any political allegiances at Knockholt, going there as I did to listen to the music, over-indulge and talk to other Folk Mobbers. I was blissfully unaware(till post-June), of the 'hatred' being posted on this site, masquerading as liberal outrage - there is something particularly distasteful in a lberal preaching intolerance. I have always loved listening to Richard, John and Royston play, so it now 'sticks in my craw',that these are the same gentlemen who are presumably outraged at my continuing presence at Knockholt. More disappointing still is the fact that newcomers like Crow Sister, Virginia Tam and Silent One now seek to turn this non-political event in a direction that it's founders never sought or wish it to go.. to be continued |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 01 Sep 09 - 11:03 AM It is Mick and Sue's event, I think, particularly since the official folkmob connection remains (I think) severed. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Lady Raffles Date: 31 Aug 09 - 09:42 PM Dear All, Myself and Sue have been away for the weekend and returned home to see the interesting threads re Knockholt. Oh how the expectation from previous times have changed! This "get together" was started about 20 years ago by a few people - Anthony who is Sue's Brother, Sue and myself and it was essentially a family gathering that we gradually invited our folk friends to join. It has I feel always retained a happy and easy going sort of atmosphere and that is how it should continue. I don't agree with extreme right wing views, I don't agree with racism, in fact there are lots of things that I do not agree with. Myself and Sue have put a lot of time and effort into Knockholt over the years and I still believe that the consensus of opinion is that politics and religion should be left at the gate. Sometimes a few spontaneous disagreements will erupt and it is normal that a group of adults will not always agree. I do however feel uncomfortable with any pre meditated desire to try and change the pattern and focus of a much loved bi- annual meeting. So please, all are welcome but lets try and make it a worthwhile weekend where everyone can enjoy themselves. Mick. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Royston Date: 31 Aug 09 - 05:37 PM It probably is, JB. It's been so long since I bought a set that I couldn't remember what sizes go on the bloody thing. The last few string-changes were Christmas presents from Richard, who probably got fed up listening the old ones getting more and more dead sounding. So, I took a guess and got 12-53's. So now my guitar will probably fold in two and implode into its own body. Ho Hum. There's always unaccompanied... |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Royston Date: 31 Aug 09 - 02:02 PM I'm still with Pete on this one. I want to drink and play some music and catch up with friends at Knockholt. Like in previous years, leave the politics at home, please. Whatever beliefs Knockholt folkies might hold, they are not "ze enemy", whatever side you look at things from. We all leave the politics out of it. Anyone who wants to come to a field in the middle of nowhere, a long way from the nearest A&E, to start a pointless fight would have been better going to Codnor last the other weekend, there really isn't any point bringing this to a group of 30 mates at Knockholt. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 31 Aug 09 - 01:36 PM Hi Crows sister You can all go jawing on until your hearts are content at Knockholt. I have nothing against debate of any kind,"I dont care if the sheep join in? Just dont involve me in it. I prefere to drink and cook or go off on some venture. "In regards to you sounding "uppity" crowssister Never crossed me mind I just simply assumed it was Gypsy week. ALL THE BEST PIERRE. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 31 Aug 09 - 10:32 AM PS, as a nooby, I'm probably sounding a bit 'uppity' with some of my comments recently - but I am quite forthright by nature at times (I even told RB that he was "talking fucking bollocks" once, after being invited back to his home for the very first time..) So, I aught to also say, I have very much appreciated the welcome I've received from folks frequenting this thread and related others. I enjoy the camaraderie you all share after having known each other for so long, including some of the mutual and consentual 'abuse'. I'm quite sure that such long held friendships as these, can well endure the expression of a difference of opinion, even when that difference is strongly felt. Best Wishes All, and I have a funny feeling Pierre, that like it or no, you may well have initiated a discussion, which will almost certainly end up being continued in that windy field beside all the sheep in a weeks time! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 31 Aug 09 - 10:03 AM "I personally know two people who are so far not coming to Knockholt due to clashing political opinion ." Really? Clashing in what way? I'm sure there can be no *serious* cause for anyone to really take offence here? For my own part, I must say all that I've seen (on here anyway) has been a little brief minor disagreement, which has (or so it seemed) been jolly swiftly and amicably sorted out, and closed. I rather understand Johns 'moment' of ill humour back there, as he has been personally targeted for public harassement by those who DO want to turn folk into a political tool, and rather than being intimidated by that harassement and wishing it just went away, he wishes to make a personal stand against it - which as I'm sure you'd agree, is quite as much his right to do so, as it is for anyone else who has no particular interest in the matter, not to do so? I *really* don't want to sound rude at all here Pierre (and I'm smiling here, but internet doesn't always carry that well), but I didn't notice anything much being talked about politics on here, until you raised the matter yourself.. ;-) I do fully agree however, that this is not really the best place to discuss such matters, so back on topic: Hasn't the weather been spiffing today? Roll on bonfires and songs and silliness..! :-) |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 31 Aug 09 - 08:43 AM John. The future of Knockholt is my main concern and the supply of this Septembers Saffron to boot. 'Now where did I bury my cooker last June " |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: The Barden of England Date: 31 Aug 09 - 07:49 AM I will be there Pete, and with song and laughter, banter and humour, for that (I hope) is my normal way, and the only political song I sing is 'Tolpuddle Man'. I don't want to let my views interfere with that in any way, so I don't see why anybody should feel they need to pull out, unless of course they hold fascists views, for if they do, good riddance. I've said it before, and I'll say it again 'There is only one race - the Human Race' John Barden |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 31 Aug 09 - 07:37 AM Finally. If you all wish to enjoy Knockers into the future I strongly recommend we return to the Banter and Humor on this thread that is also unique. Because if we do attract the wrong kind of people and the police are called you can say Goodbye to Knockers forever and thats all there is too it. Regards to all Pierre. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 31 Aug 09 - 07:09 AM I really hope John Barden comes to Knockholt I look forward to seeing everyone at the event. I only have three holidays a year and Knockholt is based around two of those three. I personally go to Knockholt for the players and singers and above to join in have a good time. We all look after our self's we cook for each other and entertain each other. with song and music. That is what makes Knockholt unique, I personally know two people who are so far not coming to Knockholt due to clashing political opinion . Its having a effect already on the event and it has not even started yet. 10 years ago i was severely beaten had broken teeth in my mouth and a busted nose due to a comment I made in a pub in Eltham regarding a statement I made to a bunch of racist thugs. my glasses wont sit on my face they keep slipping down over my nose due to the dent left in my nose by a fist. and it is a constant reminder. "All the more reason to rally around I hear some say. No not at all you were not standing in my shoes you folk were not having bits of teeth extracted from your Jawbone over three weeks of harsh dental treatment at Guys hospital. The incident has not changed my views on racism I hate it. I refuse to post further on this subject has I think it is being watched and monitored by just the people we are protesting against. if you wish too reply please PM me. At present I am still looking forward to going to KNOCKHOLT a event run by Folkmob the club I attend in Eltham. I put it too you how many attended the launch of Folk against Fascism at Sidmouth. Hardly anyone I wager so why bring it to Knockholt. To be honest with you all I do not know weather to buy a train ticket to Knockholt or a train ticket to Cockermouth in the Lake district where I have a cottage. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 31 Aug 09 - 04:59 AM Well, in England between the wars, when decent people did not erupt in fury when they heard it said to another "Oh, no, you're much too nice to be Jewish". In my lifetime, when decent people did not erupt in fury when they heard it said to another "I'd employ you, of course, but I have to think of the effect on my other customers". Just examples |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: VirginiaTam Date: 31 Aug 09 - 04:32 AM Apartheid comes to mind Franco in Spain Mussolini in Italy Hitler in Germany These got a toehold because people nodded them through. The continued institutionalising and marginalsation of indigenous peoples in the US, Australia, Europe, Asia. Looking the other way from "Strange Fruit" in the USA for a fucking century after slavery was abolished. Current mindless "terrorist" appellation to anyone of Middle Eastern origins all over the globe. If one is still nodding, that is one too many. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 30 Aug 09 - 05:35 PM Actually, I think the greatest responsibility is to stand up for what is right. How much do we now criticise those who in the past nodded racist practices through - just an example? While much US acoustic material s not "folk" it is firmly routed in the resistance of some great musicians to oppression. We should not lose that spirit. |

Now dont forget we must do a head count of the Giant florescent breasted women of Knockholt? you rarely see them but they have shoed feet and you can see there heads above the hedge. There a rare sight. Kind regards to all Pierre. Im pissed I went to The Tudor Barn today to see Fokmob play at a event in the park. Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: melodeonboy Date: 30 Aug 09 - 09:40 AM Knowing just about every contributor to this thread as I do, I find it sad that there has to be such animosity. For what it's worth, Knockholt for me is a celebration of good company, good music and good food (all right, we'll forget Dave's sausages!). It's not primarily a political event. It would detract from the wonderful Knockholt spirit if it were. However, the message of "no politics in public" concerns me. This is the kind of thing I was told repeatedly during the time I lived in Iraq under the benign (!) leadership of Saddam Hussein. I really don't think we want that here. We have (compared to most countries) a high level of freedom of expression in Britain. Let's keep it that way, and keep political debate and expression alive. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 30 Aug 09 - 08:34 AM Good man John. Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: The Barden of England Date: 30 Aug 09 - 07:58 AM Right - I really don't want people to pull out of this wonderful event, nor spoil it for the rest of you, so I'm always ready for a compromise. I understand the reasons why a banner at the gate may not be such a good idea, so what I'd like to do is have an 'FaF' banner (which may not be that big) on my caravan, on my guitar case, on my seat, and if I can acquire one, on a T shirt. That would satisfy my need to show my solidarity with this just cause, and hopefully please the organisers. I honestly don't want to be a 'party pooper.' John Barden |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: TheSilentOne Date: 30 Aug 09 - 06:11 AM I feel awkward speaking on this because VT and I are Knockholt newbies, but I am 100% with John. Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: VirginiaTam Date: 30 Aug 09 - 06:11 AM I must say that, I think no event is too small to make a stand against fascism. If I feel pressed to to hold my peace in the face of the enemy, I am not going to be comfortable there. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 29 Aug 09 - 01:12 PM I don't run any sessions. But I think that every decent organiser of any session ought roundly to reject fascism, and to say so. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 29 Aug 09 - 12:50 PM I'd be inclined to leave it up to the discretion of individual organisers as to what they feel is appropriate for the individual sessions or festivals they run (I'm certain Richard will do his own bit, in the session he runs.) As soon as people feel they are being pressured to 'sign up' there will be automatic reaction against that pressure, and that won't be positive for the cause in any way. Better to tread gently with contentious issues I think, in order to prevent rejection of the whole issue. This doesn't prevent individuals 'flying their own flags' so to speak. Or indeed arranging an informal discussion amongst those already on board, and possible interested others. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 29 Aug 09 - 12:24 PM Pierre, upset me? Noooo! Just a throwaway bit of nonsense. Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Royston Date: 29 Aug 09 - 10:33 AM I agree with Pete, about Knockholt. It's too small, it doesn't need politics. I've heard people make the most stupid racist comments there before on odd occasions and I have had to take a view about how to respond, as you do in life. Generally I just stay away from the racists and they stay away from me. Most folk at Knockholt are decent and give or take the odd lairy so and so, everyone manages to get along well. So nobody should use a little non-commercial gathering of old folkies as a political soapbox. NO POLITICS IN PUBLIC. I intend to follow that rule, I expect others to do likewise whether they be people with whom I agree or with whom I do not agree. Anyone not happy with that had better stay away because I'm pretty sure this is the prevaling view and that the consensus will be against anyone can't deal with that. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: The Barden of England Date: 29 Aug 09 - 09:42 AM Peter - Folk against Fascism is what is says it is. It is about a certain point of view which is taken by some people regarding people of colour, people's sexuality or their religion. There are bigots out there who are trying to use folk music to further their fascist agenda, so in that sense it is not political. I will be harping on about this at Knockholt, and if it's not wanted, then I won't come - plain and simple. I'm being attacked by these very people elsewhere, and will NOT shut up, nor will I be forced to. John Barden |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 29 Aug 09 - 07:01 AM "You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows" Crow,s sister your last post has gone completely over my head. Have I posted something on a thread that has caused you upset or anger? If so please explain ? or PM me. Now I might upset folk. I do not think there should be any banner strung on the Knockholt field gate apart from the Folkmob Banner. keep the folk against fascist banners for the big fests like Sidmouth etc. In all the years I have been going to knockholt I have never spoke politics to anyone and I have never heard it mentioned. also I have never witnessed any individual/s spouting there mouths off regarding there own political opinions. With such a banner all this could change and it could ruin a great quiet little fest. Stick to music and song. Kind regards to all Pierre. |

My mandolins broken at the nut and despite a attempt to fix it for Knockholt,Im sorry to say today it all went funny and the top A string broke and I couldnt tune it. Useless again. Its exspensive to have it repaired professionally time and time again. Im progressing with it but again these breakages are set backs. I am seriously thinking of packing it in and thriowing it on the fire at Knockholt and that will be the end of it. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 26 Aug 09 - 08:57 AM Brian and Marian( No Worries) are playing the Good Intent the Tuesday night before Knockholt. I do not want to miss that. I hope they come on first because there is another lineup the same evening but that means I wont be able to get home if I stay to see both. One night in a BnB is not worth it and I also want to be at home because Woodsie said Kay would take us to Knockholt which is very kind and makes life so much easier. I like to be there by 11oclock latest so we can get set up and then set off to Pub. Richard do you know what time roughly you will be getting to the field Wednesday? I will have all the meats early Tuesday and stick them in my freezer, I will buy from my mate who delivers frozen but they will need your cool box come Wednesday evening . The routine of going down the pub on the wednesday is not a problem for it closes for some reason at 3oclock so we be back on the field by 4 considering picking Blackberries on the way back up. Lady Raffles I will take a bucket with me every time I go to the Tally Ho and pick Blackberries on the way down and on the wobbly wobbled way back up again. The amount of times me and Woodsie walk down that lane to the pub you can rest assured the bucket will be full to over flowing by Thursday night. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: naughtyforty Date: 26 Aug 09 - 06:22 AM I am happy to bring chick peas and lentils. Are red lentils OK Richard? They thicken brilliantly and I have a stock in my cupboard as I use them all the time. Would tinned chick peas be OK? They need no prior preparation. If not, I can get some dried ones and do the necessary before I get there. Little Apprentice and I will be there on Friday evening. We are trying to persuade Maria by the sea to come as well. Puddings are all in preparation as well. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Lady Raffles Date: 26 Aug 09 - 05:44 AM I'm going to cook my chickens in a wood smoking oven now instead of the chicken brick, Anthony and Lesley bought one this summer and it was brilliant so we've just ordered one as well. While we were in France half our plum tree fell down due to the bumper crop of fruit on it so I'll be stuffing the chickens with fresh herbs, lemon and garlic then smoking them over plum wood. I can do that on Thursday and Saturday and maybe leave the bread rolls and chocolate banana's for Saturday when I'll have more preparation time (we won't be arriving on Thursday until about 5pm) If anyone feels like picking some blackberries, there should be loads in the hedges around the field and also in Stonings Lane then I don't mind stewing them on the Thursday evening and we can have them with a couple of ready made flan cases and cream. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 25 Aug 09 - 08:34 PM Fisheye. here are the lyrics has I promised for the Woody Guthrie Song you want to do at Knockholt. Are you sure about Lonnie Donagan doing a version of this song? if so check the lyrics they may differ? I will do in the key of C.Guitar. and you will acompany on Banjo in key of G. BLOODY PARLAVA. I cant see a song like this being played and sung slowly. It has a tempo of about 120. Re our talk the other night at folkmob you were right I was thinking of another song that is very similar. I beg your Pardon. The Grand Coulee Dam. The world has seven wonders, the travelers always tell. Some garden and some towers I guess you know them well. But the greatest wonder is in uncle sams fair land. Its that King Columbia river and the big Grand Coulee Dam. She heads up the Canadian rockies where the rippling waters glide. Come,s a rumbling down the canyon to meet the salty tide. Of the wide Pacific ocean where the sunm sets in the west and the big grand Coulee country is the land I love the best. In the misty crystal glitter of that wild and windward spray men have fought the pounding waters and met a watery grave. She tore the bvoats to spintersbut she gave men dreams to dream.Of the day the Coulee dam would cross that wild and wasted stream. Uncle Sam took up the challenge in the year of ,33 For the farmer and the factory and all of you and me. He said "Roll along Columbia", You can rambke to the sea, But river while your rambling you can do some work for me. Now in Washington and Oregen you can hear the factories hum, making chrome and making magnesium and light aluminium. And there roars a mighty furnace now to fight for Uncle Sam. Spawned upon the King Columbia by the Big Grand Coulee Dam. Regards Pierre. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 25 Aug 09 - 07:47 PM I,ll bring flat metal plates. Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 25 Aug 09 - 05:16 PM I have been trying to get a sense of what we have planned, above, about food. Pete wants to cook on Saturday. Is there also a feast on Thursday? I will bring LEG OF LAMB. I can tagine it Thurs or Sat. I can also tagine SAT if desired - other meats seem to be decided on, so I opt to do PORK and apricot tagine. Pete, you were going to get Lamb (now not necessary) beef and chicken. Can you now rather than Lamb please get Pork for me to tagine? Belly pork will be fine. I will chase Blossom for wine for marinades, and provide coolboxes and ice blocks for lengthy marinading, and provide harissa paste, dried apricots, and ginger, and tagine spices. There are TWO volunteers for chicken bricks - Crow Sister and Lady Raffles. I think they will bring thier own chickens. So, Pete, the only meat you need to buy will be the beef and pork and I will split the cost with you. Table of volunters: - PlC - Bread (but not on Saturday, pub calling) including herb breads). Herbs of many kinds. Some spices. Finger peppers. Roasting Beef and Lamb marinaded on Sat. Pavlova. VT - unspiced beef, Veg (spuds, carrots, parsnips and onyums) but not courgettes or aubergines. VT special Waldorf salad. Maybe devilled eggs. Banananananana bread. RB - Harissa paste, Old Lamb, ginger, cheap wine, dried apricots, red onions, black olives (or maybe queen olives stuffed with garlic) courgettes aubergines. Tagine of Pork Thurs or Sat, not proud. I will use (and provide FRESH not preserved citrus - not sure what breed of citrus yet). Shall I be custard king for Essex Girl's apple crumble, or is there another volunteer? CS - Chicken brick. Flat-breads (has anyone got a thick smoot flat metal plate?) Veggie tagine (which day?) Lady Raffles - Another chicken brick, bread rolls - maybe rice if enough burners can be lit! Raffles special chocolate banananananas. Naughty 40 - Chickpeas and lentils (soaked and softened as necessary please) for thickening tagine(s). Cous-cous. Millet? Puddings - including chocolate caramel shortbread JB - Saffron Essex girl - tomatoes (I can put some in the tagine in stead of tinned ones, nice!) runner beans. Apple Crumble. Is there a volunteer to bring sweet potatoes fo rthe tagine(s)? Ye gods it has taken ages to try to collate that. |

You must all be kind to him because he's got hardly any teeth left (aaaah!) and is a balding old hippy, plus he still needs green herbal cigarettes to cope with being a child of the sixties. Also the only songs he can play are by Beatles or Jethro Tull & he is very totally utterly rubbish. But he does have quite a good voice. And a trailer & sack barrow... |

Well if we have the same this year I,ll cook during the day in the Marquee. I belong to a number of discussion sites and its not the same has talking face to face. I think your right Richard we should discuss the cooking face to face at Knockholt. after all there will be plenty of time . |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 25 Aug 09 - 08:21 AM PS, Pete, if you thought you saw sunshine last September at Knockers, it was more a case of "Oh, the pretty lights, man". It pissed for three days solid. |

I may have to arrive, pitch, and go! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 25 Aug 09 - 07:30 AM Hi folks Rain does not bother me. winds of a 140 mph cause concern. Is that for the whole duration of the event Richard or just Saturday Looking ahead. Re wind If that is the case nearer the time I think it would be some what foolhardy to put up the Marquee. there again it will be up prior to Saturday anyway for the feast. Sitting round a camp fire would be near impossible. Playing and singing well that would be comical in regards to singing and playing in a Gale force wind and I hope Fisheye films it for the DVD files. I would certainly shell out £4.50p to see a DVD of John Barden,s Ride On (with full circle participation} in a gale force wind. Anyway there is sod all we can do about it but wait and see.it was very gusty last year and pissed with rain to boot but it was also quite suuny at times too. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 24 Aug 09 - 05:10 PM I put it to you, Richard Please, "I was not playing clever buggers with the Lamb at all. I done what I thought the Moroccans would do? Jesus I only poured a bottle of wine over it? I then...................let the juices of the Lamb mingle with the wine. 'Like the sheep mingle at Knockholt. Only for a few hours? after that I slaughtered the Lamb. by ,,,,,,,,,,,,Adding flour and made a paste. I gave you a Sample. The Judgement for a moment was on a Knife edge. But you liked it. Which I guessed you might. Simple steam cooking. If one steams something you can maranate any time through the cooking process. You have got me Fanny Cradocks Hat on now . Im Goona go play me broken Mandolin |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 24 Aug 09 - 04:11 PM Richard drown it in red wine once thawed one can always thicken the wine with flour and paste it with red wine paste and peppers prior to cooking it. One has to be extremely careful with your Harissa paste indeed a bit like working with explosives. but its a nice paste and it mellows after a couple of hours I mean minutes. this is your baby really and it was lovely last time . You added Apricots last time. this time maybe, beaten lemons and limes maybe in with the lamb and a bit of Mint. Apricots too. I will have most herbs at knockholt both straight out the garden and also my own dried herbs and my herb shelf indoors. "oh bye the bye one other herb "which is a personal herb to be kept discreet and at arms length."? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 24 Aug 09 - 03:16 PM STOP PRESS I have won, free, a leg of lamb that has been in deep freeze since 2004 - but if I put it in red wine in a watertight coolbox to marinade when I leave on the Weds, it should be pretty good by Sat. What else were you putting in the marinade, Pete? Shall I put a tbsp of harissa in there to soak in, or will you play clever buggers with it after I arrive? It will need carving off the bone after it thaws right through (probably some time on Thurs). |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 24 Aug 09 - 08:26 AM Thanks for the above advice Richard. I played the Mandolin this morning for an hour and the grove that i very carefully re-cut seems to be holding out? The end of the nut looks a bit like a broken tooth but Im satisfied that the mandolin tunes ok and that the action Brian set up has not been affected by my workmanship. Having never attempted such a repair i am quite pleased with me self. I cant do nothing about it until after Knockholt whereby I will go and see brian. I was hoping to get my nice little traveling guitar set up next by Brian but that goes to the back of the queue now the mandolin comes first. I have only been playing the Mandolin for 8months now and progress is slow but im getting used to the strings and can pick through a number of different scales and the chords are now simple. There are 3 things about a mandolin I have learned,1) There bloody temperamental. 2) they like to be played every day or they sulk. 3) They are very highly strung and tend to have break downs without warning Ie like my just did. Bloody parlarva. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 24 Aug 09 - 05:26 AM Pete, there have been MANY threads about brass and bone and whatever nuts (and saddles) on guitars. Do a search first. I suspect Brian re-cut your original plastic nut, rather than make a new one. The cheapest fix will be a tiny hole drilled with a pillar drill and a tiny pin through it. I have in the past rebuilt nuts with glues and epoxies (also cheap if DIY but time consuming), but it is not a good way. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 23 Aug 09 - 06:23 PM "well the way I see it Richard is with brass I wont have no Nuts breaking or splintering like the plastic one did today that is a certainty . I will start a thread tomorrow on mudcat titled " Bone or Brass and see what the world of Mandolin players think. Has far has I know this might be bone that Rogers put on during the set up a few months back. Its hard to tell Bone from Plastic when in a fixed position. And i cant remember what he said it was? I ,ll bell him. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 23 Aug 09 - 05:40 PM Bone. But I like brass. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 23 Aug 09 - 05:23 PM I know Bone> A brass one? Hmm Im stuck for choice." what is best or preferable with most players |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 23 Aug 09 - 04:43 PM Rodgers will make you a bone one if you like. Or a brass one. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 23 Aug 09 - 04:36 PM Rogers is the long/short term answer absolutely. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 23 Aug 09 - 04:23 PM Bloody plastic Nuts if it was made of Bone it would not have happened? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 23 Aug 09 - 04:19 PM Rodgers |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 23 Aug 09 - 04:18 PM I was practicing Mandolin in the garden this morning having tuned it first when suddenly the very top G string slipped of the Nut. But it had not lost tension and clearly did not break. When i looked closely at the Nut I notice that a tiny Gnats cock piece of the nut had broken off the side and at at the string groove to boot? That is with out doubt what caused the string to slip off. I loosened the G string in question and when i looked closely at the nut I could still see the line of the string groove really only a fractioned of the edge of the groove had gone. So I got me a hand held mini grinder and worked out the string grove until the string would sit there has prior to this par-larva happening. I then tuned up the Mandolin and HEY PRESTO it Tuned perfectly and sounded great has before . I know I should change the Nut but I have just paid to have it set up and if I replace the Nut it will throw everything out. What do you think folks change the Nut (More Expense) Or leave it alone and see what happens? I was bringing it to Knockers but the likely hood of it happening again puts me off. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: VirginiaTam Date: 21 Aug 09 - 03:02 AM Used to do Waldorf with pecans not walnuts (no grapes). Went off it. Now I like Galax apple chunks (small with peel on) finely chopped celery shredded mature cheddar mayo Wonderful on a fresh soft floured bap or eaten with leaves. Maybe I will make deviled eggs Hard-boiled eggs, sliced in half the long way scoop out yolk, mash and mix with mayonnaise, mustard, dill pickle relish (American kind) spoon (or pipe if you want them to look pretty) mixture into halved eggs whites sprinkle with paprika The trouble is carrying them. Need to make a several layered egg carton like container. Kind of fancying fresh banana bread (also made with pecans) too. So may bring a couple of loaves to share. Lovely slices warmed, melting butter and cup of coffee for breakfast. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 20 Aug 09 - 05:08 PM Oscar Tschirky mastered a decent Waldorf Salad. A Waldolf salad consists of. Julienned apple,s(What every on earth they might be. Celery(Yuk) Chopped Walnuts. Raisans Grapes, Whipping cream thats been whipped(Im not bringing "THAT" to Knockholt) mixed Green Salad leafs and Marronaise. The salad was invented at the Waldof hotel New York. Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Aug 09 - 03:57 PM PS. has anyone mastered a decent Waldorf salad? I love a good Nicoise, but it has to be eaten on the grass in hot sunshine (with a Rose d'Anjou or a gin and sin, and that weather does NOT look like Saturday. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Aug 09 - 03:55 PM There are three relevant pipe sizes. I will go onto Screwfix to check. The harissa is re-adjusted and is more, but not completely, like the second batch from last year. I will chase Blossom about the wine for the marinades. Doesn't pavlova demand meringue? If so that demands stable and controlled low heat for 24 hours (the way my mother used to do it, in the airing cupboard) and that is not going to be practical at Knockers. It also does nothing for me and I am NOT going to be traditional English and make fruit crumble and custard or spotted dick and custard (much as I love them). The custard HAS to be returned to the saucepan for double-thickening. Birds, not the poncy stuff. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: naughtyforty Date: 20 Aug 09 - 01:19 PM I will be bringing home made chocolate caramel shortbread and a couple of shop bought puds. The main body of folk that attend come from the Eltham Folk Mob Folk Club in Eltham south east London. Go to folkmob.com if you are interested in joining us. There are other folk from other clubs and Morris men/women from the medway towns of North Kent. Its a great four day event if you dont mind roughing it putting up with gale force winds and driving rain. And like Beer? when the weather is fine at Knockholt it is glorious which for much of the 7 years and 14 times I have attended it has been. In day time I spend much time cooking meals thast are a challenge for the campsite site inbetween going down the local pub called The Tally Ho. Regards Pierre Le Chapeau. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 14 Aug 09 - 09:25 AM both myself and White haired Brian the chap with the mobility Chariot and I believe John was there to the chap with the dog were having a drink down the Tally Ho when a girl on a horse came clip clopping down the main road towards the Tally Ho. Anyway for some reason when the horse got level with our picnic table by the doors of the pub it got quite spooked and started backing off . The young girl in the saddle clearly could could have kicked that horse to her heart was content there was no way that horse was gonna walk on by that pub.. well the situation was worsening for the poor girl in the saddle fore suddenly the creature shot in to full reverse and headed straight for our table back end first.. We all grabbed our beers. but remained seated. Well this horse backed straight into our picnic table and knocked the umbrella over. all the time the girl was kicking and trying to pull its head round. I stood up and said to the Girl clutching me beer. Do you want me to take the lead love. Whereby Brian piped up. 'Take the lead what you gonna do Pete dance with it. I said Ignore him do you want me to take the lead and walk him on. She said yes Please. Whereby the beast trod onme bloody foot with all its dancing about.., so i took the reins just under the bit and said come on mate walk on. Well the horse was still dancing about but I managed to get him back on the road whereby he seemed to calm. He was quite Spooked. Ever that or he wanted a pint anyway. the girl asked if I would walk him a bit further down the lane and said then she should be alright to go on alone. Still clutching me pint I walked with horse and all down to the next bend in the road and let them go there merry way. Unknown to me quite a gathering had assembled at the windows in the Tally Ho and watched all this take place and when I got back to the pub everyone said well done and one chap even brought me a pint. Well when all had returned to normal and people had gone back to there seats and the Parlava was all over I went into the Tally ho to buy a round and the Bar maid said to me. 'I saw all that earlier, your quite good with horses.I said not that good love he trod on me bloody foot. She said I have a Horse in the next field up the lower lane I ride past all you lot camping up the top field. She said do you ride I said I used to but I have not for years. She said you can have ago on mine. I dont believe she ment it but it was a nice offer and I have not forgotten it. And thats the story of the bar maids horse. |

Or two pints of Kronenburg or 1 pint of Kronenberg and a Vodka and Orange, Or two glasses of wine. or twenty fags and a pint of Larkens, When I was Sea fishing in Hasting I eagerly exchanged 1 large Pollock and two Sea Bass and a string of Maceral for 200 fags and a bottle of Blue lable Vodka the fish resturants will snatch them from you. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 10 Jul 09 - 02:46 PM Brian and Marion Rodgers do some lovely harmony work - more straightforward and instinctive than the countermelody stuff that Capella taught us - and in some respects closer to the agricultural sound rather than the ecclesiastical or stage sound (this is a compliment not an insult). Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 09 Jul 09 - 07:27 PM What the offending object is doing sticking out the car park floor is completely behond me has is the likes of how the Girls managed to alight on the thing in the first place. If the car came to rest on it when they first arrived I can only assume the noise it must have caused with the car running aground can only have been ignored, The other thorey is that the Girls started the car to leave and drove over the rock and came to a stand still. all this time Woodsie is completely off his face and wondered off into the night no doubt with his pants still on his head. Me and Pat and Deb wanted to find him to make sure he got home alright? We drove to the Bus stop and found him asleep. The rest of this Rigmorole is explained in threads above. The evidence I give here is subject to the fact that I also was very pissed but still hold a memory. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 09 Jul 09 - 06:58 PM I put it to you Mr Bridge I had absolutely nothing to do with any of the affair. I staggered out of the club and stumbled across the Calamity (not the Car.) If my memory serves me correctly the sceane unfolded when I came out the club to see Annie who was seated in her car, in the driving seat hanging out the window pointing at the front wheels going around Hollering " Pete help the wheels are going around but we are not moving" Faye was just sitting there looking some what bewildered. I approached the parlava When I looked under the Car it was resting quite Squarely on a flat topped rock and the front wheels were some 4inches off the ground. Faye then without warning me mind, pressed on the Gas again and and the free spinning dirvers side wheel, nearly took me head off? Its a good thing I have Alien like lightening reflexes. Whereby I told her to turn the F.....g engine off. By this time more folk had arrived on the sceane and it was quickly decided that the only way to get the girls moving was to physically lift the Car off the Rock. Which we all did with both occupants still in the Car,They did not think to get out and make the task somewhat lighter and I admit no one thought of telling them to get out. My Backbone nearly came out me Arse lifting that car. The flat top Rock still remains half buried in the Car park. The whole thing was made twice has complicated because I was in fitts of laughter through out the whole Fiasco. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 09 Jul 09 - 02:47 PM PlC alleges that the wheels were off the ground. Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Royston Date: 09 Jul 09 - 02:14 PM PLC, Just a hypothesis about Anne and Fay. What if... Anne dropped Fay off near the door when they arrived then drove off and parked the car. Then later, Anne and Fay both get in the car. Now, the extra weight of Fay plus drink consumed is just enough to bring the suspension low enough that the car bottoms out on stone? We must solve this mystery, I think. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 09 Jul 09 - 10:19 AM Woodsie what with you and Annie and Faye. The Car park at the Rugby club holds a lot of cars. But Annie decides to park her car on top of a rock that is sticking out the ground and the whole Engine block is resting on it the front wheels were off the ground,How they manage to park the car in the first place without tearing the engine out is quite beyond me. anyway when it time to go they get in there car put it into gear and Annie puts her foot on the gas and the front wheels start spinning round but the car wont move. where they have parked on top of this rock. between me and Pat and a couple of others we picked the car up and placed it back on the ground. The thing that made me laugh was both sisters sat in the car while we did the lifting has if it was back breakingly heavy enough. No Woodsie you were not there we found you at the bus stop asleep. we put you in Pats car they dropped me off and took you home. That was indeed one of the funniest nights I have had in Donkeys years. Im now nursing a bloody great hangover and got to go to work , |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: The Barden of England Date: 08 Jul 09 - 03:58 PM I wrote 'Escape from Paradise' in Gminor. John like Woodsie is correct in stating that Mars a few years back was at it ever closest to Earth that it will ever be and thats a good thing because consider what it would do in regards to the effects of the tides. if it was to come so close has to appear the size of the Moon. Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Mick Woods Date: 08 Jul 09 - 11:39 AM Sorry to dissappoint you Pete but read this: An email that has circulated during July and August for several years is again hitting inboxes in 2009. The message informs recipients that the planet Mars will be passing very close to Earth in August. While this information was valid back in 2003, it is totally inaccurate for 2009. One of the 2009 incarnations of the hoax consists of a PowerPoint slide presentation that provides basically the same information as contained in email along with several photographs of Mars. Claims that Mars will pass close to Earth in August 2009 are untrue The year is not specifically mentioned in the message and a great many recipients therefore assume that the message refers to August, 2009. Virtually identical (and equally misleading) messages were circulating back in July and August 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. The events outlined in the message were more or less true back in 2003 although they were a little hyped even then. According to NASA, on August 27, 2003, Earth and Mars were the closest they have been for around 60,000 years. Mars was indeed a spectacular site in the night sky during several months of 2003. It was 2003 that I saw mars above the Knockholt field and it was just the size of a regular star with definite red/orange colour. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Mick Woods Date: 08 Jul 09 - 05:43 AM I'm just mad about Saffron Saffron's mad about me I'm just mad about Saffron She's just mad about me (Donovan Leitch) Whats all this Richard Harris sauce? Mars was in it's close proximity a few years ago and was clearly visible above the knockholt field - Graham said it was just somthing that I had been smaking. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 08 Jul 09 - 05:18 AM Well i have looked into this and it is true. The day the whole world is awaiting for is 27th August 2009. The Planet Mars will be closest to Earth in living history. After that date the Red Planet will be around long enough to see it from the campsite in Knockholt a fortnight or so later when it will be a mere red blob. COP this mars on the 27th August will be the same size has the Moon is seen from Earth? Appears She witch was Right. Look it up for your self go to Google..Search. Type in Mars close to Earth. good shots of the planet on images too. Richard's Harrisa sauce is the same color has the Planet Mars.about the same density too. Ha ha Forever Autumn this years Knockholts title comes from the War of the worlds album which is about Mars Invasion of Earth And we will be able to see Mars from Knockholt. I find that incredible and somewhat sinister. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 08 Jul 09 - 04:57 AM Right lets try make sense of my last two posts. According to a friend Mars the Red Planet is supposed to be at the closest it has been to Earth in thousands of years and can be seen has a large Red blob in the sky in alinement with the moon this is a one off opportunity to see the planet Mars fore it will be another few thousand years before it is in the same position again. It would be great to be able to see Mars from the Knockholt campsite. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 07 Jul 09 - 01:25 PM Tam, I've been thinking on bringing my old Crueset (sp?) thingy and making veggie tagine brew as an alternative feast for non-meaty's: should be easy peasy I reckon. Just a harrisa (blag harissa off the harissa maker) spiced stew of veggies (winter roots & mediteranean veg fruits) and dates/dried apricots with chickpeas. I'll have a go at making a veggie Moroccan tagine before knockers, and then post here if it works out well? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: VirginiaTam Date: 07 Jul 09 - 01:19 PM Will clean, cut and part boil spuds, carrots, parsnips and onyums. Then all can be tossed in with whatever meat dish about 20 minutes from end of cooking. Will that work? Someone else will have to do corgette and /or aubergine for the tagine. I don't know how to do them. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 07 Jul 09 - 01:18 PM Well I'm quite fond of "interesting" herbs. Especially of the culinary, medicinal and folkloric (ie: 'toxic') variety... :-) I've considered growing Saffron Crocus (Croci?), but just one of those things I've not got around to experimenting with as yet. I'm sure it'd be a sound idea though. As bulbs reproduce naturally. So I'm sure a small patch would suffice for ones future saffron needs. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 07 Jul 09 - 01:08 PM Pierre, Yes indeed Saffron can and does grow in this country, indeed the town Saffron Waldon owes its name to the cultivation of the Saffron Crocus. The reason Saffron is such an expensive spice, is that every individual strand, is harvested from the crocus flower. It's the golden stamens, as seen here: Saffron Crocus |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 07 Jul 09 - 05:15 AM Well whata lota Fanny Kradocks we have on here this morning. Richard there is a family butcher that can provide all in 3 Meats in Green St Green. He is up the top of the High Street just past the pub near to where that caravan place used to be . I do not mind buying the meat and if I got it from there on the Friday I could marinate the Beef with your Sauce. You will be on site to oversee and then Lady Raffles could put it in her fridge over night. Lady Raffles it will be a large lump of Beef will it not take up to much room in your fridge. Im also concerned that Caspar dog may take the fridge to pieces in order to get to it? alternately it could be kept in a cold box for one night. Richard we will cook the Beef Harrisa on the saturday after being marinated all night friday . I will cook the Lamb and Chicken Saturday too. I like the ideas of Naughty forty and crows sister re Bread Sue can do some bread and I will do some Herbie Flat breads on heated flat trays. Vt can you do the veg I can steam them or you can boil them on site or from home. Just out the ordinary Roystone. I used to know a Vampire who lived in a big old house in Chislehurst Road near the pond. She was a regular visitor to the Caves. which is where I met her. She had her teeth filed into Fangs and wore some lovely Victorian costumes which cost her Hundreds of pounds, she was a very nice weird eccentric women. In day time she was a bus conductor on the 161 bus which goes to show how long ago this was? She was quite a Charactor she had two Bloodhounds called Zoltan and Boris. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 07 Jul 09 - 03:56 AM Yeah, flat-breads are perfect for hot bonfires (think Naan in a tandoor). If you've got a metal plate/grill to slap them on - and they cook very quickly. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: naughtyforty Date: 07 Jul 09 - 03:53 AM I was vaguely watching a programme about barbecuing last night and the guy baked bread on the grill. He just made the dough in the usual way and flattened it out and it rose beautifully as it cooked!!! Something to try maybe? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Lady Raffles Date: 06 Jul 09 - 06:21 PM Or I could just pop it in my fridge until it's wanted for cooking, although it wouldn't be half as much fun. Pierre I think we should both attempt to make bread, you can never have too much. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: GUEST,Lady Raffles Date: 06 Jul 09 - 06:09 PM Or I could just pop it in my fridge until it's |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 06 Jul 09 - 03:49 PM Richard I reckon any anti-bacterial style 'kitchen' liquid bath would be absolutely fine. It might warrant a wee bit of research though. I'd probably still be inclined to put a handful of salt in for good measure, but of course spices, salt, sugar, alcohol inter alia, are all traditional kitchen preservatives for meat. Hence of course 'preserves' such as Mincemeat.. Your harissa paste I am certain, no doubt originates from the exact same style of kitchen pragmatism & household welfare as Christmas 'spiced beef'. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 06 Jul 09 - 02:57 PM I don't fancy salted. How about postulating a tribe of Christian Bedouin (or one of the lost ten tribes) who of course could drink alcohol, and marinading the beef by coating with Harissa paste and then soaking for a couple of days in a couple of bottles of cheap red plonk - with another tablespoon of Harissa paste dissolved in the red plonk? THen sear teh beef, fry the onions, add the ginger, and oranges or maybe some substitute, and cover with the red wine again and simmer for an hour before adding the carrots (maybe sweet potatoes too) and other spices (but probably no more harissa paste at that stage) then chick-peas and simmer for another hour to thicken and finally add the olives and either courgettes or aubergine for th last 20 minutes? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 06 Jul 09 - 02:22 PM Meat (I'm thinking Beef and Pork in particular here) can happily languish in salt brine (often with spices, booze and treacle etc.) for days and even weeks I believe! Just depends whether you're happy with that kind of approach. It is very traditional of course... The flavour will be affected, but I can't see it being a conflict in a highly spiced sauce. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Royston Date: 06 Jul 09 - 02:21 PM PlC "We tangined the Lamb last time... Is that a reference to Tangina, the pint sized midget mystic from Poltergeist, Pete? "Walk towards the light Carol-Anne" I think that after being dissolved in Richard's deliciously lethal harissa paste then slowly cremated before violent digestion by alcohol-soaked folkies and finally shat into the famous Knockholt out-houses, I shouldn't imagine the lamb is keen for a chat from beyond the grave, IMO ;-) |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 06 Jul 09 - 01:51 PM I reckon that might be pushing it. I have a cold box. If people with camper vans who can refresh the cold-packs will be on site on Thurs it would be OK in the cold-box, or there would have to be an expotition in hunt of beef early Fri - I failed to find a useable butcher in Green Street Green. There is a butcher in Strood whose meat is sometimes OK. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 06 Jul 09 - 01:34 PM Richard if I brought the Beef for the Harrissa on wed and marinated it and stuck it up a tree would it still be both eatable and worth cooking by Saturday or would we have to chase it across the fields. i dont mind 3 day marinate but I have not got a fridge. " just cold air at night. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: naughtyforty Date: 06 Jul 09 - 06:36 AM Richard - how about dried apricots in the beef tagine? I have a recipe for a West Indian beef curry with apricots in and it works really well. Found this on a website about North African cooking:- "Most of the vegetables used are familiar from other Mediterranean cuisines although North African recipes tend to make much greater use of aubergine and courgette than their neighbours across the water. Carrots and peppers also feature heavily as do many pulses such as chickpeas and lentils and grains including millet and the aforementioned couscous. Dried fruits, particularly apricots and dates also feature in many North African recipes. Preserved lemon is a particular regional speciality, prepared in a solution of salt and lemon juice, which can add a zingy citrus kick to any dish." All sounds fab to me!!! I am happy to contribute anything that can be bought at Tesco (which I will be visiting on my way to Knockholt on the Friday afternoon/evening. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Lady Raffles Date: 06 Jul 09 - 06:24 AM Brilliant Crow Sister! bring it along I'll also try and get hold of another one so we can have a couple of chickens on the go, it sounds like there might be another feast brewing. Oh I forgot to mention a bulb of garlic goes inside the chicken along with the herbs and lemon, the juices when mopped up with bread are absolutly amazing. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 06 Jul 09 - 05:33 AM Pete, a quick google convinces me that beef tagine is quite proper. If we are gong to tagine as such rather than marinade meat and cook as joint (there goes that word again, Debs) then the choice of vegetable and fruit becomes tricky. I'd still go for carrot but I've gone off courgette in tagines and I am not keen on aubergines although I suspect that they grow OK if well watered in north Africa. I'm not sure what other firm root veg would suit. I have seen recipes using sweet potato, so does anyone know whether they are native to Africa? I associate them with the West Indies. THe other favourite to add to beef tagines seems to be prunes or prune juice, but with only a few portapotties that might be unwise! So, tentatively, if tagining, it might be worth thinking about beef, usual spices and harissa, carrots and sweet potatoes. Has anyone got access to an ethnic shop (usually Indian) that sells saffron in large bags at cheap prices (like the market in Jerusalem does)? The lump we put in last time would probably have been a tenner in teh supermarket? Or shall we not do it as tagine on fire? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 06 Jul 09 - 05:20 AM Lady Raffles, I have one of those terracotta chicken brick things! 'Romertopf' or summat. At the moment it's err pretty grubby (second hand item - been in the out-house for ages so needs a jolly good soak & scrub). But I had considered its possible uses on a camp fire! Shall I bring it in September? I should be coming along with my old fella next time (so there'll a bit more space for gear!) |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 06 Jul 09 - 05:14 AM Looks like I might make a trip to the field on the Weds night to deliver Harissa pastes and the blue plastic piping, if all goes to plan! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 06 Jul 09 - 05:06 AM What I will do Richard is marinate over one of the above meats. Lamb beef Chicken and cook the other two with Herbs and spices. I will go to Green street Green for the meats or i fear they will go off by saturday if i bring them with me on the wednesday. My friend will deliver meat to my home but not to Knockholt. So it will have to be a shop on the friday to Green St Green ,which me and White haired Richard do anyway each Knockholt. we usually bum a lift of someone. Linda last time. Im glad I buried and hid all my cooking tins in Dead tree copse back in june so i can dig them up and wash them and reuse. We tangined the Lamb last time so this time I suggest the Beef. They do have bovines in Morroco I take it? But the marinate choice is open . he can curry and slice the other meats to suit others tastes. I dont want another marinate parlava like last time despite it all worked out great in the end. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Lady Raffles Date: 06 Jul 09 - 04:51 AM I made bread rolls once at Knockholt, I wrapped the dough in loose parcels of greased and floured silver foil, leaving enough room for the bread to expand and placed them around the edge of the fire just outside of the embers and they cooked beautifully in about 15 minutes, I might have a go at that again, I'm also looking out for another clay chicken brick (can't remember the correct name for it) at boot sales. The first time I cooked a chicken in one of those on the camp fire it was delicious, stuffed full of fresh herbs and lemon and then I sealed the two halves of the brick together with flour and water to stop the ash getting in, but the second year I tried it the pot broke into pieces still it's worth having another go. |

Unless you fancy orbiting Knockhot in a out of body experience rocket time machine? A Roast dinner before the Saturday night Par-lava Well with all the good Intent in the world we would not be able to cater for all folk. Tell you what I will cook three roasts. like I did the Lamb last June but I will endeavor to do Beef Lamb and Chicken you bring the Vegetables. I know a sound and cheap butcher who delivers to me door. Heat on a open fire is controlled by height and heat. in a WIND free environment. pretty difficult at Knockers with all the Real Ale lot. I only drink Real Ale now at Good Intent. A spotted Dick could be done over embers. I am going to try bread too. If Cave man cooked it that way,so can I . I will have to start cooking the above long before you get to the field VT and I will season with Mint Sage Onion . Garlick corriander and that all that Jazz. Maybe richard will bring some of his yum yum Moroccan rocket fuel Harrisa Sauce for those that want the above with Rice. any one else wanna jump on the band wagon they can provide wine..beer. we wont be able to do this once the fire lighted so I suggest eating time to be around 1800 Hrs. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: VirginiaTam Date: 05 Jul 09 - 05:10 AM roast beef. been a long time since I had that. I am now doing vegetarian again. a bit of detox. no meat, reduced sugar, salt, white flour, and butter. it is easier in the summer. but I expect by September I could tuck into a roast. If it is planned for Saturday nioght, I will happily bring and prep some vegetables. May even bring another roast to add to PlC's, if he will share some of his lovely herbs. I didn't think you could do a spotted dick on a fire. No way to control the temperature. I suppose it could be made in advance scooped into muffin tins wrapped in foil to reheat. |

I will cook a large Roast Beef on the Thursday the same way I cooked the Lamb back in June. It's even rumoured that Roystons actually BNPGeorge! Trust no-one I say: I myself am probably attempting to infiltrate the sweet true and pure folk world, with certain fraudulent and contaminating "folk" songs composed pre-Mt.Sinia (ie: 1954) tablets - so I can't even trust myself... |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 01 Jul 09 - 06:18 AM Forever Autumn. Thats Justin Haywood from Jeff Waynes War of the worlds albam and my Favorite Track. 'No one would have believed in the last years of the 19th century . that Human affairs were being watched from the timeless world of Space. 'Few Men even considered the possibility of life on other planets Yet from across the immensity of Space minds immeasurable superior to ours, looked at our Knockholt festival with envious eyes. Like a scientist who studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water And slowly but surely they drew there plans against us. I wrote a story once based on H.G.Well. "War of the Worlds" It was about penis shaped Aliens called the Ardons taking over the world. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 01 Jul 09 - 02:21 AM Oh dear, two threads open at the same time and (or so we've been advised) only ten people (albeit eleven including the troll) are interested in them! Just how will we keep them alive? I propose vigilence! We may be few, but we are strong! As the I Ching would say 'perseverence furthers'. Though it probably spells it better. Anyway I need to learn some harvesty style songs now. Any suggestions? |
