Subject: RE: BS: Trump INDICTED AGAIN (NO new Trmp threads) 2 From: Steve Shaw Date: 09 Jul 23 - 06:10 AM Expressing aloud the hope that someone will die because you hate him is just wrong. Upbraiding someone for childishly expressing that hope is perfectly valid. It deserves a scolding and is no insult. By the way, the US is no island unto itself. We all know that decent Americans have had it bad, no denying. But Trump's baleful influence has spread like a disease across the planet, encouraging the likes of Johnson and Putin and promoting the cult of lies and populism. God knows what will happen to Ukraine if he gets back into power. Trump has, or will have, victims well beyond your shores. I'd also like to remind you that the unexpected demise of Trump would merely spawn the promotion of someone else who could be even worse, and there'd very likely be a surge of sympathy. You have plenty of charlatans over there who would fit the bill. DeSantis, anyone? |
Subject: RE: BS: Trump INDICTED AGAIN (NO new Trmp threads) 2 From: MaJoC the Filk Date: 09 Jul 23 - 04:44 AM Trump is mortal, and will die, sooner or later; wishing it "sooner" is the politics of despair. He needs to be soundly thrashed *at the ballot box*, for the sake of the Republican party's long-term prospects, and to cleanse the entire US body politic. For the record, I've come to think of him as Nixon lite. |
Subject: RE: BS: Trump INDICTED AGAIN (NO new Trmp threads) 2 From: Dave the Gnome Date: 09 Jul 23 - 02:51 AM We had Johnson. The Russians have Putin. Trump is somewhere in the middle. We need to be rid of all such but wishing harm on them is not the way to do it. It is what they would do. |
Subject: RE: BS: Trump INDICTED AGAIN (NO new Trmp threads) 2 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 08 Jul 23 - 10:09 PM You can put whatever spin you want on it, but we don't need to be insulted because we wish Trump to shuffle off this mortal coil, in whatever method he selects for himself. If he has a debilitating stroke but doesn't die that would be ok also. You didn't have to live with four years of that fool as commander in chief of your country. His greed was such a driving factor in every choice he made that he literally tossed the rule of law and all women, minorities, and immigrants under the bus. I despise the man, and don't have altruistic wishes for his departure. I hope it hurts. He's really that awful. |
Subject: RE: BS: Trump INDICTED AGAIN (NO new Trmp threads) 2 From: Steve Shaw Date: 08 Jul 23 - 07:42 PM Gosh, dunno who the second Webster was. Anyhow, get thee to a dictionary. Puerile often refers neither to age nor to gender. Don't trust me, just look it up. |
Subject: RE: BS: Trump INDICTED AGAIN (NO new Trmp threads) 2 From: Steve Shaw Date: 08 Jul 23 - 07:40 PM Puerile is a state of mind irrespective of age. From Merriam-Webster-Webster: "Nowadays, puerile can describe the acts or utterances of an actual child, but it more often refers (usually with marked disapproval) to occurrences of childishness where adult maturity would be expected or preferred." |
Subject: RE: BS: Trump INDICTED AGAIN (NO new Trmp threads) 2 From: Helen Date: 08 Jul 23 - 07:28 PM Not being either young or male makes it impossible for me to be puerile. Subject: RE: BS: Trump INDICTED AGAIN (NO new Trmp threads) 2 From: Steve Shaw Date: 08 Jul 23 - 07:21 PM Living in hope about Trump's future death/ill-health is puerile, not to say unseemly. It isn't how decent human beings should be wishing about people and it's a distraction from the serious issue of how he needs to be defeated AT THE POLLS (as it now seems that there will be no other way of seeing him off, due to the utter paralysis of the US justice system). You have about eighteen months, and he's extremely unlikely to die in that time, no matter what shit you think he enjoys eating. This kind of banter is childish and irrelevant. He neither smokes nor drinks, by the way, so that's a couple of other avenues of hope closed down to you. Either you stop him from standing, or you beat him in the polls, or you put up with four more years of him. Those are your only options, and his big fat belly and allegedly trashy diet simply don't enter into it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Trump INDICTED AGAIN (NO new Trmp threads) 2 From: Helen Date: 06 Jul 23 - 03:49 PM SRS, I looked again at Eugene Robinson's surroundings but it was a fuzzy room background, so that makes sense. I was at an interesting antiques place and at first glance I thought there was a quilt with coloured squares hanging up but on closer inspection I realised it was a Middle Eastern rug. Yes, back to the topic. There was an odd news article yesterday: Home Affairs Minister Clare O'Neil calls Donald Trump Jr a 'big baby' over cancelled Australian speaking tour "The younger Trump, who had been booked on a three-day tour that was scheduled to begin in Sydney on Sunday, cancelled the trip on Wednesday, with organisers suggesting the reason was visa issues. " 'It seems America isn't the only country that makes it difficult for the Trumps,' said Turning Point Australia, a group that describes itself as a non-profit in favour of free markets and limited government, in a Facebook post." I have never heard of Turning Point Australia, but if they think a Trump-related speaking tour is a good idea, I'm not interested. |

Apparently I wasn't the only one looking at the wall behind him! Now that I look at it, the thing on the wall that caught my eye is a painting. The person with the quilt is member of Congress Katie Porter. This piece in particular and the text says it is probably by "no doubt by @katieporteroc’s mom legendary quilt maker Liz Porter." They gave her only a 9/10, but that piece earns a 10 all by itself. Now back to that trashy man in Florida. His henchman Nauta is in court this morning and his trial starts mid-August. |

Subject: RE: BS: Trump INDICTED AGAIN (NO new Trmp threads) 2 From: Helen Date: 05 Jul 23 - 03:55 PM I doubt whether this show can be viewed online outside of Australia. Four Corners: Series 2023 Putin and the Presidents The comment about Putin playing Trump like a violin was made by Eugene Robinson, from The Washington Post. After a meeting between Putin and Trump in front of the media the cameras were sent away, and they met privately for two hours, with no aides present. Robinson says, "Putin didn't need the KGB psychological profilers to hand him a dossier on how to play Donald Trump. He was able to read Trump. He had a very good understanding of how to flatter him. He knew how to play Trump like a violin." |
Subject: RE: BS: Trump INDICTED AGAIN (NO new Trmp threads) 2 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 05 Jul 23 - 12:51 PM Trump has a fondness for dictators, and they take full advantage of that weakness. Meanwhile, a Trump acolyte "addled by conspiracy theories" and who was already wanted for breaching the Capitol on Jan. 6 has been busy in Obama's neighborhood. Why? A man arrested last week for breaching the Capitol on Jan. 6 drove a van full of weapons to Barack Obama’s neighborhood before his June 30 arrest, appearing to target the former president’s home after a Truth Social post from Donald Trump that identified the Obama family’s Kalorama address, prosecutors say. Trump hates Obama even more than Biden, and literally painted a target on his back. Another charge to lay at Trump's door. Taylor Taranto’s June 29 arrest — after a foot pursuit near Rock Creek Parkway — capped a week-long period in which his erratic and menacing behavior escalated the urgency from law enforcement to find him. It was only after he entered Obama’s Secret Service-protected neighborhood that officials were able to track his movements closely. Taranto, speaking on a livestream, discussed finding an entrance to the Obamas’ home via the sewers. And damn. This loon is from the State of Washington. Anyway, pull up that Politico story - it's a fascinating read. |

(The article is about "The First MAGA Democrat—Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is feeding Americans’ appetite for conspiracies.) Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s speech is warbling, crackling, scratchy—sort of like Marge Simpson’s. His voice, he told me, is “fucked up.” The official medical diagnosis is spasmodic dysphonia, a neurological disorder that causes involuntary spasms in the larynx. He didn’t always sound this way; his speaking style changed when he was in his 40s. Kennedy has said he suspects an influenza vaccine might have been the catalyst.
