Expressing aloud the hope that someone will die because you hate him is just wrong. Upbraiding someone for childishly expressing that hope is perfectly valid. It deserves a scolding and is no insult. By the way, the US is no island unto itself. We all know that decent Americans have had it bad, no denying. But Trump's baleful influence has spread like a disease across the planet, encouraging the likes of Johnson and Putin and promoting the cult of lies and populism. God knows what will happen to Ukraine if he gets back into power. Trump has, or will have, victims well beyond your shores. I'd also like to remind you that the unexpected demise of Trump would merely spawn the promotion of someone else who could be even worse, and there'd very likely be a surge of sympathy. You have plenty of charlatans over there who would fit the bill. DeSantis, anyone?

If he has a debilitating stroke but doesn't die that would be ok also. You didn't have to live with four years of that fool as commander in chief of your country. His greed was such a driving factor in every choice he made that he literally tossed the rule of law and all women, minorities, and immigrants under the bus. I despise the man, and don't have altruistic wishes for his departure. I hope it hurts. He's really that awful.

Living in hope about Trump's future death/ill-health is puerile, not to say unseemly. It isn't how decent human beings should be wishing about people and it's a distraction from the serious issue of how he needs to be defeated AT THE POLLS (as it now seems that there will be no other way of seeing him off, due to the utter paralysis of the US justice system). You have about eighteen months, and he's extremely unlikely to die in that time, no matter what shit you think he enjoys eating. This kind of banter is childish and irrelevant. He neither smokes nor drinks, by the way, so that's a couple of other avenues of hope closed down to you. Either you stop him from standing, or you beat him in the polls, or you put up with four more years of him. Those are your only options, and his big fat belly and allegedly trashy diet simply don't enter into it.

SRS, I looked again at Eugene Robinson's surroundings but it was a fuzzy room background, so that makes sense. I was at an interesting antiques place and at first glance I thought there was a quilt with coloured squares hanging up but on closer inspection I realised it was a Middle Eastern rug.

I did a little searching - the account on Twitter is @RateMySkypeRoom and adding that to his name gets results. Apparently I wasn't the only one looking at the wall behind him! Now that I look at it, the thing on the wall that caught my eye is a painting. The person with the quilt is member of Congress Katie Porter. This piece in particular and the text says it is probably by "no doubt by @katieporteroc’s mom legendary quilt maker Liz Porter." They gave her only a 9/10, but that piece earns a 10 all by itself.

Now back to that trashy man in Florida. His henchman Nauta is in court this morning and his trial starts mid-August.

Robinson is a frequent guest on MSNBC so I've heard many similar remarks if not that one. (He also has some great stuff hanging on the wall behind him when he is interviewed over Zoom - I've done a few screenshots to grab photos of one innovative quilt design in particular.)

Like I said it only takes one juror to hang the jury. If a verdict is not unanimous there is no verdict. It is then up to the prosecution to retry the case or dismiss it. Mobsters often went free after just one juror was turned.

Listening to Trump trying to walk back what is in the recording ("I was just waving papers - I had lots of newspapers, and plans for the club") is a clue that his attorneys may have finally gotten through to him - he has to stop saying the papers are his and he has a right to them. Daniel Ellsberg died last week. Time to rewatch The Post or All The President's Men or read one of the many fine books about the events around the Watergate breakin and the resignation of the president. Several of the Nixon-era people are the talking heads called upon today by news networks to discuss comparisons with the hot water Trump is in and the fix Nixon was facing (the pending 96-4 vote to impeach).
