I heard Eric Bogul (sp?) sing this song of his own composition on Prairie Home Companion The chorus is: "That's why every road I travel leads always back to you" I'd love to find the words.

I thought I knew most of Eric Bogle's songs but the line you quote is not familiar. Could it be "And I'm somewhere in America, half a world away from you" from his album I WROTE THIS WEE SONG?

No, that line I wrote (That's why every...) is definitely the chorus. In fact, the first verse is:

They say the heart's a lonely hunter always searching for a home In every soul there is a hunger to find the place where it belongs I came to this land as a stranger year by year the deep love grew Chorus That's why every road I travel leads always back to you

I managed to transcribe a couple of verses off of a hideous recording I made while driving. The song is all about Eric's love of Australia.

Sorry, I looked through nine Bogle albums, a songbook and a hideous Aussie TV Video in which Eric introduces a female vocalist and then interviews her. As far as I could ascertain, her hooters were her best asset, but I still can't find the song. Maybe some other Bogle fans can help.

ALWAYS BACK TO YOU

-Eric Bogle

Well they say the heart's a lonely hunter, always searching for a home
That in every soul there is hunger, to find the place where it belongs
I came to this land as a stranger, year by year the deep love grew
And that's why every road I travel leads always back to you

For I have heard the Humpback's singing, the ocean filling with the song
I've heard the Bell Bird's chimes come ringing through the misty forest dawn
And I have seen the Braulga's dancing on Dreamtime land at Kakadu
And that's why every road I travel leads always back to you

And I've slept in my swag out in the desert, been humbled by infinity
As the moon and the stars in glittering concert, turned desert sand to silver sea
I felt my heart break with the beauty as a red sun set on Ularu
And that's why every road I travel leads always back to you

And I drank with my friends in Boshan City, laughed and sang all through the night
Their friendship is a flame that warms me, their love and care a guiding light
It's a hard and lonely journey without friends to help you through
And that's why every road I travel leads always back to you

Oh, they say the heart's a lonely hunter, always searching for a home
That in every soul there is hunger, to find the place where it belongs
I came to this land as a stranger, year by year the deep love grew
And that's why every road I travel leads always back to you
And that's why every road I travel leads always home to you

There's another version of this song, with a similar but different set of lyrics seemingly tailored for Canada, on John McDermot's "A Day To Myself" CD. I am not sure if Eric Bogle wrote that 'Canadian version' too though the CD noted the song as "Writen by Eric Bogle".

Does anyone has the lyrics and/or more infornation about this version?

For McDermott's version, the best I can do is a short excerpt, from a sound sample:

For I have seen the northern lights set the arctic night on fire;
I felt the orca's wild delights....
