Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Rapparee Date: 24 Jan 08 - 03:39 PM I used to make and set gravestones. You know, those pieces of engraved rock they use to mark graves? Well, whenever I worked in the local Jewish cemetery I would get the feeling of "Finish your work and shove off, you don't belong and aren't wanted here!" Some years ago my brother, who followed me in the business, told me he experienced the same thing. No other cemetery projected that feeling, and we worked in a LOT of them. |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: KB in Iowa Date: 24 Jan 08 - 01:50 PM My wife believes in ghosts and other such pair of normal things, I am more skeptical. Sometimes I experience something and think to myself that if she had been there she would have chalked it up to ghosts (or whatever) while I think it was a trick of the light (or whatever). I am open to the possibility that she may be right. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Donuel Date: 24 Jan 08 - 01:34 PM If I ignore my lieing eyes, ears and electric field perceptions, I too would not believe in such pair of normal things. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: KB in Iowa Date: 24 Jan 08 - 01:32 PM "I have experienced what can only be called hostile feeling directed at me while I was working in a cemetery." I am dying to find out more about this. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Little Hawk Date: 24 Jan 08 - 01:31 PM Reliable proof of all such things is pretty much limited to one's own direct experience. Having had a wee bit of direct experience myself, I have all the proof I need. And that's the way it works for most people....although there are a good many people who will believe anything at all if CCN or somebody like that on the TV says it's true... ;-) They are the "daddy knows best" type, I guess. I don't see it that way, not having ever had much trust in Big Brother. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Rapparee Date: 24 Jan 08 - 01:25 PM Show me undoubted proof of UFOs, ghosts, or anything, and I'll accept it. I've changed my mind about a lot of things over the years, accepting what I used to doubt. And I'm not talking about sticking my hand into the wounds, either -- just evidence that can be explained in no other way. Take ghosts, for instance: I have had no experiences with them, but I have experienced what can only be called hostile feeling directed at me while I was working in a cemetery. |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Little Hawk Date: 24 Jan 08 - 01:09 PM Interestingly enough, a neighbour of ours had a sighting a few nights ago. A pretty detailed one. I have no reason to doubt her. Anyway, what the hell, I've seen some myself but it was way back in the late 60's. I just shrug at people's attitudes about such matters, because their attitudes reflect nothing more, generally speaking, than their desire to continue rigidly clinging to whatever they already think, and to automatically oppose anything that is different. |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: IWTATBM Date: 23 Jan 08 - 04:09 PM You certainly know how to make folks feel guilty KB. Your train story was very enjoyable and, for a few moments, I too was a passenger on your journey to work, though I live many miles away (over 95 I'm sure). However I think it will be a millennia before we ever have a controversy like the green tomato debate. |
Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: KB in Iowa Date: 23 Jan 08 - 03:12 PM I have been feeling a bit let down. As I was finishing my drive to work last Friday I was so excited about sharing my train story with my 85B brethren I could hardly contain myself. I was expecting this to kick off such a round of back and forth as to rival the great tomato debate of years gone by. Alas, my dreams have been squashed flatter than a penny left on the tracks as the morning freight rolls through. |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: KB in Iowa Date: 18 Jan 08 - 10:26 AM I got stopped by a train on my drive to work this morning. I cross the tracks twice, once in the country and again as I pass through a small, unincorporated, town. The train was at the latter of the two. The crossing is at the bottom of the hill and I sat and watched and listened as the train clickety-clacked past. I turned off the CD player so I could really hear it. If it wasn't so cold (5 F this morning) I would have rolled down the window, that is what I usually do. As I looked to the left I got a great view of the train passing in front of the old grain elevator, it was wonderful. After the train had passed and we started going again I must not have gotten up to speed soon enough as the fellow behind me went roaring past. He was still only just in front as we got to the next town and had to slow doan again, probably gained about 5 seconds for his trouble. Still, I was happier for it because it meant he wasn't riding my ass the whole way. |

I have tried posting to 85B but just have not been able to, the pain is still too fresh. Just when it seems I am working through it something happens. Just last night, for instance, I was laying in bed and heard an owl hoot (remember the owls?). Just one owl though, not two like it was before, and s/he flew off after only two whooos. I can only assume that the owl was confirming that Shane has gone, possibly for good. What is to become of us? |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Rapparee Date: 08 Jan 08 - 09:04 PM My friend Mary's last dachshund was treated for back problems; it cost her over USD2,000 but you DON'T just chuck responsibility. His name was Corny (Cornelius) and he was a very giving dog -- he developed a stomach cancer, but put up with the Vet School at Purdue University working him over to see if various treatments might help other dogs in the future. Her current dog, Huey, was raised for his first year to be a show dog. We believe it nearly abusive -- Huey will only sleep in his crate, for example. Dachshunds are pretty danged good dogs, all in all. |

Subject: RE: BS: Will this thread reach 85 billion posts? From: Little Hawk Date: 08 Jan 08 - 05:59 PM I'm not sure if it's true or not. Younger and slimmer dachshunds have no trouble at all climbing stairs, and I suspect that while having an erection would interfere a bit...it would not stop the little rascal if he was determined! When they get overweight, however, then they begin to have real trouble with climbing stairs even at the best of times, and they can suffer back injuries quite easily. |
