BELLE OF BROUGHTON When summer time is bloomin' Chorus At harvest time or dancin' You and I together Sung by Eric Bogle on 'Bogle live in person' - recorded live in Germany, February 1977, Folkclub Munster - Autogram & Folk Records, Nottuln, Germany - ALLP-211 BACKGROUND. I wrote this song for my grandmother. She died when I was quite young. And to my youthful eyes she always seemed incredibly old. My grandfather told me when I was older, that my grandmother was considered a great beauty when she was a young girl. He always considered himself lucky she choose him. I was too young at that time to notice any lingering traces of her physical beauty, or appreciate her inner beauty. She came from a small village outside Peebles called Broughton, and in her days she was the Belle of Broughton. Eric Bogle
