Now that you mention it, Kendall, I have been sick as a dog since 3am this morning. And Janie is home sick with sad stomach ills.

I have unfortunate and considerable knowledge about food poisoning, and just assumed that it was the horrible Taco Bell food we had on the way home. Based on when I got sick, I'd say that if it came from Ramblewood it wasn't food poisoning, but could well have been a virus we passed among us.

CHANGE OF SUBJECT

Re the FSGW and Mudcat: I don't think I've ever had as much fun singing as I did Saturday and Sunday nights in the dining hall. I would surely not like to see footage, as I'm sure I was carried away by pure joy (not whiskey ;) and, like Amos, could not vouch for my personal comportment. But the best part was observing people come and join in NOT AT ALL based on who was there, where they came from, but just based on what the hell was being sung, or shouted, or strummed. Both nights were wonderful melanges of anything that could be called 'folk' by any dictionary, sung by the best 'folk' I've ever kept company with.

Anyone who says otherwise was at a different Getaway than I was.

Dani

No tum or digestive tract disorders from this neck of the woods.

We (Sinsull, Ranger1, Micca, Khatt, Curmudgeon and I in Sinsull's van) arrived in Nottingham, NH after picking up cat Mortimer from Club Vet where he boarded for the weekend. I think it was about 4-ish when all the bags in the van were sorted out and 'Mudge's and my gear were safely stowed in the house.

Since it was still daylight and early, Sinsull drove off to the wilds of South Portland, Maine with Micca and Khatt in tow (Tami, too, of course).

Tom is off at the store hunting and gathering din-din. I've mixed a batch of margaritas for my long anticipated tub soak (and hair wash!!!). Gotta be up at 5 a.m. mañana to go to work. Hope the magazine got to the printer Monday without a snag.

Looking forward to the prospect of walking on flat surfaces. I'll know by the end of the week whether the constant ups of Camp Escher were beneficial to my poor knees or have totally done them in. (Right now I'm leaning towards the latter.)

Lots of highlights to the weekend -- probably the highest of the highlights was meeting so many wonderful people face to face and actually singing with them all. Wow! It was my first Getaway -- and Tom's first since 1969 (yeah -- that was a while ago). Great seeing FSGW people I know and meeting new ones. And a joy to add more 'Catters to my Mudcat Life List. And even better than singing with people was the conversations!

My brain is fried, my body tired, my knees aching and cats are clamoring for attention.

I hope I remember all the promises I made to send lyrics/information/etc. and that I remember to whom I'm supposed to send stuff . . .

Gotta go; more (probably) later (but not tonight.)

Linn

I'm supposed to be sleeping, while Bill takes Noreen and Stewart shopping. Haha. This is much more fun. And with Bill and Noreen gone out, I can get within typing distance of the computer :-)

All Getaways are wonderful, but some are more wonderful than others. This one wasn't just fun; it was mostly sheer happiness where I'm concerned.

Some thoughts, in no particular order....

I think my most treasured memory is the hour I spent talking with Brett and Wakana. What beautiful people. I'm really glad to know them. Wakana's smile lights up the room.

My mind keeps presenting one lovely image after another, it's impossible to organize it. And besides Bill accuses me of being "effusive." Well of course I'm effusive -- I'm Italian.

Guess I'll start with the Sunday late night singing, because in a way that sums it up. The music was wonderful, but it wasn't as wonderful as the company. I couldn't bear to leave and go to bed, because in the morning we were all going to head for distant places. I was so happy surrounded by people who have been very special to me for a long time -- or had become very special to me in the space of 3 days.

Late in the session we got into a series of unaccompanied chorus songs, one after another, the room just rang. What I think Dan Schatz called "Fat, Juicy Choruses," mostly songs from the British isles of course. Ahhhh.... lovely. I decided I wanted to lead something before I gave up & got some sleep, so talked David Scheim (harp) and Ron Davies (viola) into doing "Rose of Allendale." What a joy! Teresa Tooley, Colin K, and Keith Baldwin were singing along on all the verses (and Teresa saved me on the third verse when a Senior Moment overtook me). And the choruses! Definitely fattening. Rich. Ron and David and I have done that song together at Getaways, parties and events; dozens, maybe even hundreds of times. That time was the best.

The Saturday and Sunday concerts were stunning. It's a sign-up concert, and it can be a mixed bag. This year it was mixed in content, but uniform in being an amazing series of absolutely splendid musical offerings. As I said. Sheer happiness.

I need a new word. "Singer-songwriter" frequently has overtones of "bad." But in this year's concerts we had the finest collection of songs sung by their authors that it has ever been my privilege to hear. Splendid.

As usual I ended up napping away much of the afternoons. Frustrating but at least I got to both hear the evening concerts and join the late night singing. But I can't comment on lots of stuff because I was out of it at the time.... Cold sober, too.... Sigh....

Skarpi, you really outdid yourself in your Sunday concert set. Glorious music. He ended with a beautiful song he learned from Elvis Presley. Beautifully sung! And amazingly, the American accent was quite perfect. There were huge smiles and long loud applause, you bet!

Another joy was having Barry Finn back with us again, and watching him regain more and more of his old feistiness as the weekend went on. And finally meeting Justine! We've talked on the phone several times and of course I've listened to Barry praising her to the skies over the years. Barry, every single thing you said was true but she's even better than that! Boy, Justine, I hope you can come back soon!

The "newbie" contingent was (were?) a spectacular bunch of folks. Absolutely a privilege to meet you all.

Hope to put in several cents' worth more later, but I think I'll get a short nap now so as to sit up later with Noreen and Stewart, chatting and maybe even swapping a few more songs.

Oh, but I do have to add one thing. I brought Tannywheeler (Cynthia) home, we helped her ship some of her gear back to Austin, then she went to Joe Hickerson's birthday party with Janet and Fred Stollnitz and they took her to the Metro today to get her train. We had such a good time driving home from Ramblewood. It is great to have some time just to talk. And to have visitors, so you can sort of stretch out the Getaway just a few days longer.

Rita

Well it was my first Getaway (can't believe I missed all the others being relatively close in Richmond, only 4 hours away)and although Monday was spent in a daze at work (my friend Maria and I drove back to Richmond after the concert) I was, and still am, feeling the glow of being around such lovely people and so much wonderful music! Favorite moments - too many to count, although Saturday night's concert has to be among them. I guess what I really enjoyed was meeting so many Mudcatters - too many to list but they were all so nice. On the way back we listened to the CD's we'd acquired both from Mudcatters (I'm afraid I'll wear George "El Grecko"s CD out very soon) and also the stash of great stuff we bought from Dick at Camsco. I'm all fired up and still under the spell of the songs, laughter and cameraderie. Will post more later - but I want to thank the folks at FSGW for putting on such a first class event.

This is Charmion and me closing our flight plan. We rolled in about half an hour ago. Many thanks to everybody. I didn't get to the music cabin after hours this year, to my surprise. There was too much happening in the dining hall. I'm glad to say I was one of the die hards Sunday night (not quite in the same class as David Scheim and Lucy Goldberg and Theresa, though).

Special thanks to WYSIWYG and Hardiman for their great hospitality.   I had a great time. As a card carrying Anglican preacher's kid, hearing Hardiman tear through some Chicago blues had a real piquant flavour.

Well, I couldn't resist the urge to pick up last night and drive 100 miles to Wilmington, DE to hear Max's band and the assorted 'catters leftover from the Getaway play more music. I'm paying for it now, but it was well worth it.

I am sure that Gutbucketeer means he got home at 2 AM - I actually got home a little before then and took a while to settle down enough to sleep.

This Getaway was as wonderful as anticipated; probably even more so.

A toast to Max for creating, fostering, cultivating and maintaining one of the best uses of modern technology in existence -- a venue for people to connect with one another and share friendship and music. What more can a body ask for?????????

Peace,

Hey Bobert, my man, I have to say I have never played blues before but I may be addicted. You kick some serious ass with this stuff and speaking for the three pedestrians, it was a blast. Hope to repeat it someday. The whole getaway experience was grand, but that half hour will be remembered forever by one novice bass man.

Getting to play in the show with Janie and Allan C, even though my 2 words were OOh and Aah!

Noticing with a smile that the same folks who jeered at the mention of us doing a Kingston trio song were also singing along in the chorus!

Being included in the Buskers with Lorcan, Skipjack and Leadfingers, and having Lorcan thank ne even though I almost screwed up his song with an early entrance on the Low D whistle.

The Saturday night Jam was to me one of those unrepeatable musical moments. Occasionally you have a life experience that later in life you look back on and remember it wistfully and wish you had appreciated it more at the moment. The older I get, the more aware I am of these moments while they are occurring. They are rare times and I am thankful of them. I can tell you all about them becaues you were there but to anyone else there is no use even trying.

Playing as one of the Pedestrians with Lonesome EJ, Jim BUnch and the legandary Bobert in the BLues Mini concert was another such moment.

Meeting Ebbie, hearing KT sing, drinking wine with Micca, trying to keep up with the music and wit of Amos, getting my candy thong from the Ducks, meeting so so so many wonderful people.

My question is this: How is it possible to fall in love with 200 people at once?!!!
Ebbie and I got home a couple of hours ago, still laughing and reflecting on the weekend, as we will be for a long, long time.

It was such a joy to meet so many new mudcatters and reconnect with those I'd met before. Each day was filled with unexpected, delightful "gifts" in the form of music and camaraderie!

As you say, Jimmyt, it's impossible to explain the experience of the weekend to someone who wasn't there. And I do know what you mean jimmy, about being aware of the moment as it's happening. I kept thinking I should pinch myself to be sure I wasn't dreaming. We were really singing with all of those wonderful people from so many other places, acting and feeling like we'd known one another forever. The power of music!

Charley Noble, your description of your ride home sounds just like Ebbie's and mine with Carly. In fact at one point, we talked about the fact that at that very moment there were happy campers traveling in all directions, having conversations similar to ours, at once filled and awed by the Getaway experience.

Thanks again, to all who worked so hard to organize this wonderful event.

Momnopp, no, we don't always post in threes - only when we're at Kinko's. Kinda messes with our spelling, too!

Bobert, even though you fired me, I'm still an adoring fan. And you don't even have to pay me, neither!

I've had Janie's gospel song in my head all day. Have you all heard that girl sing gospel? WOW!

Kendall and Jacqui, 600 miles!!!! Wow!! I don't know how you managed that! Kendall, hope you get to feelin' better soon!

Yeah, Ebbie is a special one. I'd be happy to deliver hugs for all of you anytime.

More later ~ love to all ~

KT

Playing and singing were my favorite times of the weekend! With Bobert and the Pedestrians, With Amos, With Roger, With Lej, With Scarpi, With Dani, With Janie with....

Amos may have already laid claim to the title of musical slut but I feel that I'm on the same street corner, or door step as it were.

The only person I really missed getting Down and Dirty with the Blues with was MAX! And we made up for that in spades on Monday Night.

My favorite snapshots were:

Seeing Holly trying to be nonchalont and quiet as a mouse in order to avoid notice as the Sunday night jam got more "interesting" (even before Gladiator). Seeing Elena mothering Dani (Mother Goose). What sweethearts they are.

The Ducks (all of them), Dueling banjos on picolo banjo and kazoo - solo. Helping carry the twins back for bed on Saturday Night. Madeline, would be perfect for a starriing role in the Lion, the Witch, and The Wardrobe.

Seeing Janie become a real first class performer, and Linda Goodman out under the Sun during the day, and Up on Stage Saturday and Sunday Nights. What have we let loose upon an unsuspecting world! Be afraid, be very afraid :-)

Counting the tears in folks eyes after George's (El Grecko) song on Sunday night. One of the highest compliments I have ever seen any audience give a performer at any Getaway. To say he reached out to the inner feelings in all of us is an understatement of gross injustice. It was ..... Magic.

My only regrets were not putting faces with names until too late. Sorcha was there. Severn is Severn. Rumanci is Rumanci. Bat Godess and Curmudgeon are Bat Godess and Gurmudgeon. The list goes on and on.

Too tired

JAB

Micca and Khatt are tucking each other in for the night. I have a few minutes alone before I collapse altogether.

Special moments:
Watching Micca trying to decide whether or not the champagne flutes were a joke and always the gentleman, he avoided hurting my feelings with "I can honestly say I have never seen anything like them." The look of relief on Khatt's face when I smashed one was priceless.

Dueling banjos on kazoo and banjo. I finally find the banjo player of my dreams and he not only has a wife but one I like! And three perfect children to boot. Damn! Geoff the Duck, Mrs. Duck and the ducklings. What a treat to meet them them and share their sense of the outrageous.

Theresa upstaged by the gentle Wakana. Who would believe it could happen? Wakana is is another treasure. Brett should thank his lucky stars he found her. And she better take good care of the big softy, or else. Maybe they and Theresa can move to Maine and we'll all live happily ever after.

Tami (Ranger One) singing her first solo. I wish Fred and Julia could have been there. She did them proud.

Jacqui and Kendall doing the George Burns/Gracie Allan thing on stage. The two of them are so happy together - makes me all mushy.

Linda Goodman singing the song she wrote about livestock at the Getaway. Every year she gets a little more visible and bit more willing to share herself. Who could believe that she would end up on stage in the company of demented Tooth Fairies and a Quaker? She too needs to move to Maine.

Janice's Rubber Ducky, Jacqui's Beautiful Dreamer, Tinker's B.O.B., RinB's Armadillo song, Gorgeous Gary's AKIA to "Maria", Serveg's (sp?) brutal parody re: Ted Kennedy, the Storytelling workshop with the talking ducks and poor puddles, Helen's memorial, El Greko's Christmas song that had half the audience in tears, Judy Cook's Buckskin Bag of Gold, Judy and Dave Diamond as drunken farmer and unfaithful wife, Skarpi - WOW, InObu - WOW, etc. More moments later.

I did miss Joe Offer.
Now, some sleep.

Wow. Now, I'm REALLY REALLY glad I went! Since I really don't contribute much to the singing and want to make certain that I'm not just a lump on the sofa I am profoundly moved by your acceptance of my presence. Dang. That is ponderous to the extreme, isn't it! Anyway, thank you.

What KT said about falling in love with 200 people all together is something we once kind of discussed. Our eventual consensus was that as human beings we are supposed (And I don't know by whom or what Bill D. *G*) to be in awe of the essence of everybody we meet, and I think that's not a bad simile for falling in love. That said, I am enamored with you all!

Sunday night I got a tad weepy saying goodbye to those who left early - you know who you are! - but I finally came up with a thought that helps me. It is that alll this time on the Mudcat we have been speaking to each other through a curtain- we can't see each other but we hear each other, we know each other's voices and we learn to treasure each other. Then the Getaway happens- and, Glory Be! the curtain is pulled back, letting us mingle and interact to our heart's content. Then the curtain is pulled shut again- but we are still there.

Later I want to speak of more people but I can't let this go by without mentioning a couple right now: Skarpi. What an absolute love; Bobert. Someone I shall always treasure; Carly. We've almost got a tradition going since we again got to spend a Car(ly) Workshop (Sorry to steal your line, KT!) with her on the way from the Getaway.

Thanks- many, many of them - to the FSGW and the powers that work so hard to provide the opportunity for the music and the people who make it.

I'm not normally a 'woo-woo'-type person, but I think part of what makes this such gathering such a magical thing, is that for many people this is an opportunity to be brave enough to be their best and truest selves, unencumbered by the layers that life puts on them at home. Maybe for a minute, for one song, maybe for every minute from door to door.

That's why we fall in love at every turn. We understand that we are TRULY seeing, and appreciating, and being seen and appreciated for the gifts we have (or wish we had and so we give it a shot anyway).

And the energy created lifts up anyone who sees.

As we know from the old fables, if we did it for more than a few days, we couldn't go home again ; )

A few examples I saw:

JimmyT playing the bass in the Saturday night Dining Hall session. His face shone with joy and love as he was swept away with the music.

Tammy's solo Sunday, beautifully done and SO brave.

Barry and Ken, two of my favorite singers, together, dragging up first Theresa, then later Theresa AND Jeri to sing one of my favorite pieces of music ever. Twice.

Linda standing tall and being a lively, joyful spirit wherever I saw her.

Madeline and Holly with their violin and clarinet, chatting and playing in the cabin.

Kendall and Jacqui ANYTIME they were together, their rare, true and comfy love shining through.

Dani

It was so good to hear Tammmy sing on Sunday night. She has sung at Sinsull's song circles but excelled herself on Sunday. I can remember a time about six years ago, when I first sang solo at a session, just how nerve racking it was (and I know what I sounded like!) so I know how much it takes to do that. It's so good to see talent growing.

Now, regarding Sinsull's taste. Trust me, you have to have exquisite GOOD taste to be able to produce the epitome of bad taste. Mary and I went to a lot of trouble these past few months to find the worst that the local thrift and Christmas tree shops had to offer. We also haunted yard sales every weekend. Those glasses really were her piece de resistance and I salute her for the brilliance she shows in that department.

At past Getaways I had admired Pauline's violin playing from afar. It was great to get to talk to her up close and in person.

Who knows more songs, Ron Davies or Judy Cook? Amazing.

KT and Ebbie were another two that I had wished to talk to last year, and got to share a cabin with this year! KT popped up from her sleeping bag like a jack-in-the-box with a big huge smile on her face, all three mornings, after just a little sleep!

I adored listening to Annie and Ebbie play square dance tunes on fiddle and guitar. I already knew sister Annie was a fine fiddler--now I can also vouch for Ebbie's picking (not that it needs vouching for.)

This was the year of voices raised in wonderful, full choruses. At one point, I was walking around outside and it seemed like I was floating from one billowy cloud of harmony to another as I passed workshops and groups of people just making music together under the trees.

I agree with others, the dueling banjo/kazoo performance by Geoff the Duck was absolutely stellar! I hope someone got a photo or video of it--the visuals are important to that particular scene!

More later.

XXOO,
Janie

And don't forget Dani at the Jugband Workshop. I remember Dani's first Getaway when she would tentatively sing a song. In the workshop, she sang, played kazoo, and danced (!) all over the stage.

OK, Jacqui ... I accept your correction of my diagnosis. Sinsull's aim is impeccable, to be sure -- she certainly hit the bulls-eye with the flutes and the Gorilla Bride routine. I am still laughing at the look on Big Mick's face as he gingerly accepted that hirsute companion to be his own. :D

I never thought I would see so many people of such fine caliber and talent and comeliness and humour combine in one place.

I am still shaking off the after-images after two days home, and expect some of them will linger for years.

From: Big Mick

I remember my first year at this astounding event. A number of Mudcatters were there for the first time, including Dani, Annamill,Allan C and Jeri. There were other Mudcatters who had been there before such as Marge and Roger (in Baltimore), Dick Greenhaus, Susan of the DT, Caroline and Sandy Paton, Kath Westra, and of course, my first Mudcat friend, Barry Finn. The Getaway was just a bit different then. For example, everyone was expected to do an hour in the kitchen with Debbie McClatchy. Oddly enough, I miss that. I remember peeling spuds and teaching songs to Anna and Honey. In retrospect, it was an important ingredient to being a part of it all. I remember driving home with the rent money spent on CD's from Folk Legacy (Camsco wasn't owned by Dick at the time), singing songs, and becoming absolutely committed to sharing this wonderful event with others. I remember thinking about all the threads that suggested we have gatherings, and realizing that these were tailor made to that aim. I especially remember the instantaneous acceptance and warm feelings that Knitpick, karen k, Lorraine, Carly, Songster Bob, Charley Baum, and others gave to a stranger. This was, for me, like my friend Giok's and Skarpi's experience this year. I knew that I had to have more of this magic, and so set out to encourage others. A number of those that were there told how wonderful it was, and how it wasn't to be missed. We have kept that up, and over the years have met folks that I consider beloved friends. This gathering has become a treasure to be had for the price of travel to it, and the cost of the entry fee. A bargain for the ages.

For those that came, I would hope you would reflect on the priceless beauty of these memories. I would hope you would pass these memories on to your friends, children, and loved ones. In this way, these memories become part of the folk tradition, just as they did for Woody, Odetta, and the others in the mountains of California. While we may not have their notoriety, nonetheless these times are just as important. More so, most likely. It is how we perpetuate our beloved music. It is how we immortalize the timeless values of love and sharing love, of friendship, joy, laughter, sadness, memories, all wrapped up in a song. These are the memories we must share.

Dani, in bringing her children, expressed the best of all of this. She shared her love of them with us. She allowed us to see their love of her. And she infected them, even though they may not know it, with a love of the music. We see the same thing with Geoff, Jane, and the Ducklings. Has there ever been a family that one could fall more in love with? This is a lesson that Nancy King learned years ago, and Dan and Ken Schatz are the yield of that sowing.

When you come to Getaway, you get to share music. Hell, Amos Jessup played about every kind of music there is. When you come to Getaway, you get to hear things you didn't expect. I walk in on Friday night and what greets me? Some of the best Uilleann piping I have heard from our own Lorcan Otway (INObu). Then he plays whistles. Then he plays guitar. This man is a talent of the first order. You get to look up and see the Accordian God (Skipjack) sitting with CarolC and the both of them lost in the love of their instrument. Micca with some of the great parodies, Keith playing the great old time, Bobert tearing up the blues. You get to hear our beloved Ebbie, she of the sparkling eyes that mark the entrance to an amazing soul, sing quietly but beautifully. And you meet and share music with KT. KT has a radiance and a beauty about her that is only exceeded by her beautiful voice, and the amazing songs she writes.

I simply must take a moment and tell you that I love Kendall and Jacqui more than I can say. The Captain, despite the fact that we don't see each other often, is a friend of my soul. His life partner, has become beloved to me as well.

I must also tell you that no bigger heart beats than the one in Mary Sullivan's (Sinsull) chest. She is a pearl of great worth, and I adore her.

But most of all, you get to bask in the love and affection of old friends, some of them just met. You get to drive, fly, ride away full of a special feeling that one only gets by being in the presence of those who only want to share that same thing with you. I have made friends here that will be best friends for life. Jeri is like that. She will always be one of the most cherished friends in my life, and I owe that to the Getaway. Tinker, she of the huge heart and sense of love for all, is another of these.

I hate trying to write these, because someone always gets left out. Such is the way of in the moment writing. But if nothing else is gotten from this long rambling post, it is that you need to start making preparation now for next year. It is an experience you will not forget, and that you will tell to young ones when you are in the rocker.

All the best,

Mick

ye gods - what can I add to the above? Thank you to all who let me babble on about my family wedding - since I was using the Getaway as a wedding recovery centre - and thanks for not ribbing me when I had to fade early from the late night sessions. Next year I plan on being really back in the swing of things -

I stand in awe of a man who literally sounds like he is sawing wood when asleep - VERY entertaining to wake up and hear that going on - and he alternates between a chainsaw and a ripsaw! Didn't bother me at all, just impressed.

Ebbie - your presence isn't "accepted" - it's a VITAL and NECESSARY part of the whole experience. and KT -- lets just say more then once I have seen the smoking crowd by the entrance STUB OUT THEIR BUTTS UNSMOKED and go running inside at the sound of your voice...

Janice's 'Rubby Ducky' is incredible - the Saturday Night Ladies Review was spectaular; the sheer quantity and quality of the music that occurs all over the getaway is incredulous.

something new for me is to have people tell me after workshops or other times I sang comments like "I was hoping you'd do xxxxxxx, thank you!" heck - Amos says he's the music slut? my arm twists so easy it might as well be a snap-it tool. Just ask!

Finally facilitating a workshop with people attending it (I have helped twice before - both workshops with essentially zero attendence.

The ladies let me off so lightly this year though - makes me nervous. Probably their intention.

I'm still trying to sort it all out in my head, was it real or just a big, gloriously happy dream? If it was a dream, I don't wanna wake up! Thanks to everyone for making a newcomer feel a part of it all. I spent over 20 years believing what I'd been told as a kid "you can't sing." Thanks to all of you for helping me find my voice.

I have so much more going on inside, but it's a little chaotic at the moment. More when it's sorted...

This was the fourth Getaway for me and Edmund (CET), and the occasion of my first solo performance as an instrumentalist (i.e., not singing). On Saturday morning I met a remarkable musician, Mia Boynton of the FSGW, who taught me a 6/8 tune called "Reunion" and then cajoled (shoved) me into playing it at the Sunday night concert, supported by her excellent accompaniment on guitar. I have been playing the mandolin for only about a year and did not intend to burst forth quite yet, but somehow it seemed like the thing to do -- and I didn't screw up!

Edmund and I have decided that the Getaway is more like a family gathering than any other kind of social event. We are already familiar with many of the personal quirks of almost everyone in attendance, and each time we see each other we just pick up where we left off. Some very important things get said, and people do things (such as perform) they would never dare to do anywhere else.

I also acquired an elderly but serviceable Slingerland tenor banjo (rescued and rehabilitated by Bearded Bruce Gewirz), thus joining the ranks of those who make plunky noises. The cats don't seem to mind it; I don't know yet what the neighbours think.

Charmion, you and Edmund are a real treasure. I just love seeing that smile of yours each year, and I always look forward to a special little something from Edmund. The Oatmeal stuff was damn fine. But not for the faint of heart.

I just want to tell you one thing, m'dear. You have not been exactly truthful here. You said you got through without mistakes. I caught a rough spot. But what impressed me was that it was about one or two notes, you caught it, never hesitated, and played through like a pro. I made a comment to Giok MacKenzie that that was a pro moment. I think you should worry less about "coming out" and just play for folks. I have been fortunate to have played in the company of some very accomplished pro's. None of them play without mistakes. But none of them handled it better than you did. Someone who isn't a pro would have froze or hesitated. You never did. You are there, my friend. Time for you to start playing out.

Much love,

Mick

I've finally slept enough to feel vaguely human again and all the wonderful songs, music, images and friends keep going around in my head.

What a wonderful experience. I can now understand why Micca keeps going back!

I have so many wonderful memories that I can't get them all down on the thread and I know I will miss some out. Friday night singing outside, the birthday and wedding party, the open sing in the Theatre Barn, the Occupational Songs workshops where I sang twice, the parody workshop, the late night sings on Saturday and Sunday, the concerts, the finale...now that was *special*!, the harmonies, the singing, the music, the laughter and the friendships made.

It was wonderful to see so many people, those who I've met before and those who I finally got to put faces to names, Bill D, Rita, Lamarca, SINSULL, Bat Goddess, Curmugeon, Ebbie, MMario, Big Mick....Oh there are so many I know I have missed some out!

Now the food....that was indeed *special* I can honestly say I have not seen or tasted anything like it before!

We will definitely be attending next year and will start saving up as soon as we get back to the UK.

Khatt x
