way back in time (the tape cassette era) I had an excellent Dylan Parody bootleg tape that famously included actor Sebastian Cabot doing Boots of Spanish Leather - Sebastian Cabot Recites Bob Dylan Songs (to music)

I've written a few of these 'knock offs' myself including this bit about Malibu, California (one of Bob's homes) -

Front Row Seat at a Three Ring Circus

They’re selling posters of the surfers. Celebrities all around. Developers and real estate, buying up the ground. Here comes the fire commissioner, the hills are all ablaze. Sheriffs and their deputies chasing the bums away. While right-wingers and the lefties fighting in the headline news Crowds push thru the turnstiles to the three-ring circus blues

Always thought that Desolation Row should be adopted to light opera.

thanks bob .... for all those words

Joe, thanks for the archive link. At
https://web.archive.org/web/20060820052600/http://ericbogle.net/lyrics/lyricspdf/doyousinganydylan.pdf
he titles the song, Do You Sing Any Dylan?

But he also writes (a propos his songs in general, not particularly this one),

"Also, the more observant amongst you might notice that there are probably a few words different here and there from my original recorded version. This is called the folk process. Please don't e-mail me and ask me why I changed them. In many cases, in the recording studio, the words in my head often didn't come out of my mouth, and I was too lazy, too pushed for time, or too broke to go back and insert the proper words, probably all three. In any case, most fitted well enough, and some were actually an improvement on the original lyrics."

Unfortunately, Eric Bogle's website now seems to be no more.

A few weeks ago, I visited the site but all the links (lyrics, etc.) were non-functional. Whoever his site administrator is/was seems to have dropped the ball. Now I see that that the domain name ericbogle.com is up for sale.

Several years ago, his site was quite good and I was able to get his *definitive* lyrics for several songs - and these are the versions I do now.

At least he seems to be active on Facebook (from what I am reading here), but I am still hoping that he will see fit to revive his once-excellent website.

Are you listening, Mr. Bogle?

Jay

Tattie, a year or two ago, I had a question about the lyrics of one of his songs, and was surprised then that I couldn't find a website. He is on Facebook, and I left a message for him there, to ask about the lyric, and he was kind enough to get back to me about it.

Hmm, that’s odd, Gerry. He certainly used to have one with all of his song lyrics on it, so there could be no debate about which were the correct versions of his songs! It came with advice to contact Larrikin Music if you wanted to record any of them commercially, but otherwise he was happy for others to just enjoy singing his songs.
I’ve done a search and can’t find it now, though I have used it on a number of occasions in the past.

I've done this song ever since I heard the late Iain Mackintosh singing it - I've never heard Eric Bogle sing his own song & no doubt my current version has changed a lot over the years BUT I'm told I'm a folksinger so that's OK then.....

Thank you, Chris From Dublin- what a terrific site. And thanks to Dexter, of course! I never heard of him (way over in California), but I'll search to see if he's made any CDs. Good taste.

Hi all,

I requested on the 26th July the chords for 'do you know any Dylan ?' by Eric Bogle. Just to let you know that I found them yesterday on this nice link
http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~dexy/music/index.htm

A really great link from NZ with plenty of Lyrics and Chords. I found songs here I was looking for a long, long time (plenty of Bogle, Simon & Garfunkel...) Try it. It's from the folk musician Dexter Muir. Anyone heard of him before ?

Chris

Has anyone heard Rod MacDonald's song about Dylan? It is a great song about someone mistaking him for Dylan.   I'm not sure of the title, it might be called "What Are You Looking At?".

The song is also known as the Traditional Folksingers Lament and it has become a bit of a party piece for me. I'm a bit fed up of singing it to be honest - but still everywhere I go I keep getting asked the same bloody question !

I think it was written by Eric Bogle, now resident in Oz.
I know that Scots singer Ian Mackintosh has recorded it.

I've been trying to find the lyrics to a song I heard Barry Moore (Luka Bloom) perform in a folk club back in the mid 70's. I think he siad it was by a Scottish songwriter.

It was a sort of light hearted semi anti-Dylan song and all I can remember is part of the chorus which went

" .... will you sing some Dylan?
......
and I'd rather see my life blood spillin'
I'd rather sing God save the king ....
than to sing some Dylan"

and part of the last verse which went "I had me hand up her dress, she said I'll say yes, if you sing some Dylan" after wich he agrees to sing some!

Hope someone knows it or can point me in the right direction

cheers
Leon
