Subject: Convicted felon US 47/Don't Say His Name
From: Stilly River Sage
Date: 19 Dec 25 - 10:09 AM

We're getting close to the 700th post on the most recent iteration of these one-US politics-threads at a time so I'll start this now while I'm thinking of it. Convicted felon US 47 Pres / Thiel coup 3 has some good links in it and has moved along with the times. The Epstein Papers are due to be released today, in which more of his misdeeds will no doubt be shown and nothing done about them and may cause a flurry of discussion.

Meanwhile, a movement from the People's Union is urging people to not give him the attention he craves. Don't re-tweet or share his demented words, don't share photos, don't write the name of the 45/47 pres. That works for me, as I continue to turn off the news if they talk about him or play his voice.

The other thread will be closed because if it goes over 700 it will drop into the zone that offers a message about the thread being too long and now being worked on, etc.

Thanks SRS!

And thanks also to BWM for posting the full article and the link to it on 19 Dec 25 - 05:58 AM "From Mary Geddry on Substack, commenting on the Pulitzer Prize Board’s response to being sued by the Fat, Orange Baboon."

Before reading the article I wondered what He-Who-Is-Unnamed (HWIU) had to do with the Pulitzer Prize. Ok, got it! Now I am wondering why it is so unusual - in these crazy times - for a defendant to ask for complete documentary proof that harm has been caused in relation to the accusations and also why the other cases HWIU has generated haven't resorted to the same strategy. A glimmer of hope for the future.

And oh, wouldn't it be great to see him reveal all of his dark, hidden secrets like his long-hidden tax returns, his medical records, etc!

No he is more likely to duck for cover than stand his ground. That will be fun to watch too.

Is he expecting to be publicly assassinated like John F Kennedy?
He added these large letters 'Donald Trump and' John F Kennedy Memorial to the building.

Monsanto invented aspartame. If Diet Coke ever reaches 100°F, it forms formaldehyde.
Airline pilots are fined for drinking it since it effects vision.
Monsanto has since sold the patent.

From Wiki

"Aspartame was discovered by accident in 1965 by James M. Schlatter, a chemist working for G.D. Searle & Company in Skokie, Illinois. Schlatter had synthesized aspartame as an intermediate step in generating a tetrapeptide of the hormone gastrin, for use in assessing an anti-ulcer drug candidate.[59] He discovered its sweet taste when he licked his finger, which had become contaminated with aspartame, to lift up a piece of paper.[11][60] Torunn Atteraas Garin participated in the development of aspartame as an artificial sweetener.[61]"
NutraSweet Company

"In 1985, Monsanto bought G.D. Searle,[70] and the aspartame business became a separate Monsanto subsidiary, NutraSweet. In March 2000, Monsanto sold it to J.W. Childs Associates Equity Partners II L.P.[71][72] European use patents on aspartame expired beginning in 1987, with the US patent following suit in 1992.[73]"

You just triggered a memory, Raggy. Anyone ever see the film "Skokie"? Really good TV movie featuring Danny Kaye as Max Feldman, standing up to a Neo-Nazi rally. A good lesson to be learned from it today!

From thhe Wiki entry -

The Jewish community decides to stand against the rally at all costs to make sure that the Holocaust will never be forgotten or allowed to happen again.

Moderate leaders Bert Silverman and Abbot Rosen advise the Jewish community to ignore the neo-Nazis; the strategy they put forward is "quarantine", isolating the meeting by totally ignoring the neo-Nazi presence and refusing to be provoked. They see their logic as simple: if the Jewish community refuses to acknowledge the rally and thus refuses to feed the media any publicity, the meeting will be futile and eventually forgotten.

However, one citizen challenges their argument. A Holocaust survivor, Max Feldman, says that he was told to ignore the Nazis nearly 40 years ago in Germany, and before he knew it he was in a concentration camp. He says this time he will take action, and he is ready to shed blood if necessary. Led by this de facto spokesman, most members of the community agree to protest.

Off and running in many directions, I see!

I've started reading the satirist Andy Borowitz's Profiles in Ignorance: How America's Politicians Got Dumb and Dumber. In the introduction he discusses the subjects of the book, with a few paragraphs I'll share here.
To believe that Trump's presidency came out of nowhere, without warning, is the political version of creationism. I, on the other hand, believe in devolution. The election of a serially bankrupt, functionally illiterate reality TV host was the logical consequence of the five decades preceding it, which, with apologies to Edith Wharton, I'll call the Age of Ignorance. How did the bar for our political figures fall so far? To better Understand this heinous half century, I've divided it into the Three Stages of Ignorance: Ridicule, Acceptance, and Celebration.

During the Ridicule stage, ignorance was a magnet for mockery, a serious flaw that could kill a political career. Consequently, dumb politicians pretend to be smart. I'll profile two politicians who navigated this perilous stage with radically different outcomes: Ronald Reagan, whose gift as a TV performer helped hide his cluelessness, and Dan Quayle, who shared Reagan's cluelessness but not his knack for hiding it.

During the Acceptance stage, ignorance mutated into something more agreeable: a sign that a politician was authentic, down-to-earth, and a "normal person." Consequently, dumb politicians felt free to appear dumb. In this stage, I'll profile George W. Bush, who made ignorance his brand, and Sarah Palin, who made it her business model.

Finally, during the Celebration stage—the ordeal we're enduring right now—ignorance has become preferable to knowledge, dunces are exalted over experts, and a candidate can win a seat in Congress after blaming wildfires on Jewish space lasers. Being ill-informed is now a litmus test; consequently smart politicians must pretend to be dumb. I'll profile the ultimate embodiment of this stage, Donald J. Trump, and Trump wannabes such as Ted Cruz and Ron DeSantis—who, despite being graduates of our nation's finest universities, strenuously try to outdumb him. . . . while Democratic dopes have wreaked their share of havoc, the scale of their destruction doesn't equal that of their Republican counterparts. Once Democrats gin up a two-trillion-dollar war to find nonexistent weapons of mass destruction, ignore and then politicize a virus that causes nearly a million needless deaths, and attempt a violent overthrow of the U.S. government, I'll get cracking on a book about them.

At least here they can scrape the Trump crap off once he's out of office. Someone must be keeping a spreadsheet of the offenses of this administration so the government and properties and agencies and buildings can be restored. The speed at which they break things (DOGE on agencies and Drumpf on the White House in particular) is going to make restoration seem slow by comparison, but much of it must be done.

PoLiticians are not the boss. Their boss is the Foreign Relations Committee FRC, and the bankers, including the IMF and the Bilderbergs.
The Federalist Society is the internal government boss. The system is fascist by its operation. Dumb politicians are often the most desirable by their bosses to be ignorant fall guys for the official oligarchy. It's been this way for 100 years or more since the last Gilded Age. There are other influencers like religion behind the Prayer Breakfast and Family.

Education is the enemy to the current system. There is much the average citizen does not know.

Just as the US is still living with the remnants of the Civil War, the world is still dealing with the aftermath of the First World War.
The Middle East is still dealing with the mandates that divided the Ottoman Empire between the UK and France, who created states they imperialistically treated as their own, with Palestine left up for grabs by everyone.

Now, Trump wants to return to the days when we treated South America similarly. I'm sure our military wants to test out our new AI warfare strategies. So far, we are claiming Venezuelan oil as our own by technicalities/piracy.

Runaway inflation preceded the previous world wars, and Trump is on his way to causing that in the next 3 years.

Are we smart enough to turn away from another great war by psychopathic leaders?

These facilities range from large Army garrisons to smaller surveillance or logistics sites, supporting operations across the U S. European Command (EUCOM) area.

Mr. Hegseth has openly told our Generals to return to the days of My Lai and the descent into obeying the madness of illegal orders to massacre. The general public is not completely desensitized by evidence of the 7 million strong no kings march.

Precedents have been made and the psychology of our citizens are still vulnerable to the increased propoganda and media takeover. The descent into social madness may still succeed if it goes slow enough.

Free speech does not include calls to violence or slander. While more intimidation and censorship of free speech and critics is progressing, the President continues to call for violence and slanders his perceived enemies daily. There is currently more push back compared to the earlier extortion of universities and lawfirms.

MAKE NO MISTAKE, total authoritarian takeover of the USA is still on a precarious see saw.

Fun fact: "Government propaganda" was almost unknown before the First World War. (No pre-war encyclopedia, including the 1911 Britannica, for example, has an entry for "propaganda.")

The point isn't that the DHS picture is propaganda, but that its message is (shall we say?) startling.

Furthermore, the idea that America will resemble a surfer's dream in 1966 (but without surfboards or people) is (shall we say?) unconvincing.

"Back in 2001, 54 percent of Americans reported trusting the federal government, a slight increase from the 47 percent who felt that way in the 1980s. Now, public trust in government is scraping historic lows across every metric: As of 2025, only 17 percent of Americans believe that what their government is telling them is true."

No, it's all about the next distraction from his bad behavior.

I'm reading a book by the famous American satirist Andy Borowitz. Profiles in Ignorance: How America's Politicians Got Dumb and Dumber. He focuses on Reagan, Bush II, and Trump, and I'm in the Reagan chapter now in which we learn how his enablers pretty much wrote the playbook that 45/47 is running with now.
Reagan demonstrated that, in the hands of a talented TV performer, one joke could sink a thousand facts. But he had enjoyed another advantage as he cruised to victory in 1980: an all-star roster of morally dubious advisers. His gang of goons included Roy Cohn, the disgraced former aide to Senator Joseph McCarthy, and three hard-charging political consultants, Roger Ailes, Roger Stone, and Paul Manafort. It was hard to imagine another Republican presidential assembling such a team, or coming up with a campaign slogan as winning as Reagan's: "Let's Make America Great Again."40

Reagan was able to dismiss all of Jimmy Carter's knowledge and facts by uttering "There he goes again" and deploying lots of hackneyed Hollywood film lines whenever he didn't know what he should really say.

When a satirist writes history it's fascinating and to the point. And from the introduction to the book:
One final point. For the past twenty years or so, I've written a column in which I've made up news stories for the purpose of satire. In this book, I've made nothing up. All the events I'm about to describe actually happened. They're a part of American history. Unfortunately.

The Felon-in-Chief has basically jumped the shark. As we speak, he's blethering on about the US running Venezuela, and how (surprise) it'll be paid for with Venezuelan oil. Straight out of his controller's playbook*.

I foresee a phone call to (the rubble of) the White House, in which someone will say to him those three little words which mean so much:

Krasnov .... you're fired.

.... The one I feel sorriest for right now is Zelenskyy. Agent Orange may have wanted to distract from the legacy of Epstein, but his controller doubtless has his eyes on Kyiv, and wants to forcibly change its spelling back.

---

I'm staying out of it, and staying as far as possible from the TV news. I resent having to give the worthless little oik any headspace whatsoever, and will be much happier once he's parked back on the thunderbox where his emenations belong.

Maybe he'll solve it all with his self-administered aspirin overdosing based on his more-is-better philosophy.

"Recognizing the Early and Severe Signs of Toxicity

"The initial signs of Aspirin poisoning are generally subtle, affecting the auditory and gastrointestinal systems. The most classic early symptom is tinnitus, described as a persistent ringing or buzzing sound in the ears. This is frequently accompanied by impaired or muffled hearing.

"Gastrointestinal distress is also common in early toxicity, presenting as nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Patients may experience hyperventilation (rapid or deep breathing) as the body attempts to compensate for the drug’s effects on the acid-base balance. Other mild indicators include excessive sweating and unusual thirst.

"As poisoning progresses to a severe stage, symptoms become more pronounced and involve the central nervous system.   **Severe signs include confusion, agitation, and a noticeable change in mental status, sometimes progressing to hallucinations.**   The inability to regulate temperature can lead to a high fever, and metabolic disruption can cause metabolic acidosis and dangerously low blood sugar. In the most severe cases, patients may experience seizures, develop cerebral or pulmonary edema, become comatose, or suffer kidney failure."

**Problem identified??!! LOL

For those who, like me, wonder how, in the name of all that’s holy, the fat, ugly, orange baboon managed to get himself elected POTUS not once, but twice, here’s Michael Jochum (drummer with Korn and, inter alia, self-confessed political commentator) on his Facebook page yesterday…

https://www.facebook.com/1176851850/posts/pfbid02SgSnXqGUcncHJJvx7Wg3MiWty16NzGD6XMiW8HjTRL438GhvQQdkRYBZRxk1pTfAl/?

I think he could have a point…

For the benefit of the Facebook-phobic on here, the text follows…

“I’ve been watching an absolutely heroic amount of pearl-clutching lately from people who insist that J.D. Vance would somehow be “worse” than Trump once Trump’s inevitable political and biological expiration arrives.

Let’s get something straight: it has never been about Trump, not for one second.

Trump is just the mascot. The real story is the people who finally saw themselves in him and felt validated by what they saw.

I actually believe most of them will drift away when the cult collapses, like embarrassed fans of a one-hit wonder. Many of them will swear they were never really into him at all. The MAGA amnesia is going to be epic.

I used to wonder how it was possible that Trump could have won in 2016 and then again in 2024, given how emotionally toxic, morally vacant, and psychologically mangled he is.

I don’t wonder anymore.

I think he won for that exact reason.

He wasn’t a candidate. He was a mirror.

If you were a racist, you found your guy.
If you were a misogynist, you found your guy.
If money was your only religion, you found your guy.
If your heart was armored shut, you found your guy.
If you mocked disabled people, you found your guy.
If you hated intelligent people, you found your guy.
If you were a rapist, you found your guy.
If you enjoyed golden showers with Russian sex workers, you found your guy.
If you’d done absolutely nothing to confront your emotional wreckage, you found your guy.
If you were a serial cheater, you found your guy.
If you were a perpetual bankrupt, you found your guy.
If you stiffed honest workers, you found your guy.
If you were a conman, you found your guy.
If you mocked people’s appearances, you found your guy.
If you longed for a toxic Daddy, you found your guy.
If you were dissociated and disembodied, you found your guy.
If you were unconscionable in every economic dealing, you found your guy.
If you lied as naturally as breathing, you found your guy.
If you’d never eaten a green vegetable, you found your guy.
If you were a white supremacist, you found your guy.
If your ego contained a hole so large not even the presidency could fill it, you found your guy.
If you were a sociopath who cared not one molecule about other humans, you found your guy.

If he had only two of these traits, he never would have won. He won because he had hundreds of them, and millions of people recognized themselves in at least one.

This has never been about Trump. It has always been about the people who finally had their worst instincts validated.

Trump didn’t create the cruelty, he licensed it. He handed out permission slips for hate.

He is merely a symptom of a far deeper disease: collective toxicity.

If there is one sentence that explains Trump’s power, it is this: “He says the things I’m thinking.”

That’s the part that should chill the spine.

Who knew that tens of millions of Americans were thinking such unconscionable things about their fellow citizens? Who knew how many white men felt so threatened by women and challenged by minorities that they were ready to torch democracy to feel big again? Who knew that after decades of apparent progress on race and gender, so many people were living in seething resentment, waiting for a demagogue to legitimize their worst selves and convert their bitterness into political power?

Perhaps we were living in a fool’s paradise.

We aren’t anymore.

International Law and the U.S. Military and Law Enforcement Operations in Venezuela from Just Security, a forum on Law, Rights, and US National Security.

Partway down the page, after a description of the events of January 3, is a description of the focus of this article:
In this article, we explain several international law issues raised by the operation, some of which have been addressed in greater depth in the Just Security collection of articles on the drug boat strikes and other operations dealing with Venezuela. In particular, Operation Absolute Resolve implicates the prohibition on the use of force against other States (e.g., under the UN Charter), extraterritorial law enforcement, and initiation of an international armed conflict (e.g., under the Geneva Conventions).

The bottom line is, unlike the boat strikes the U.S. military has carried out to date that have occurred in international waters against stateless vessels, this operation, striking Venezuela and abducting its president, is clearly a violation of the prohibition on the use of force in Article 2(4) of the UN Charter. That prohibition is the bedrock rule of the international system that separates the rule of law from anarchy, safeguards small States from their more powerful neighbors, and protects civilians from the devastation of war. The consequences of flouting this rule so brazenly are likely to extend well beyond the case of Maduro’s forcible ouster. Likewise, the initiation of an armed conflict – triggering the application of the law of armed conflict, including all four Geneva Conventions – has meaningful consequences, ranging from the protections now owed to Venezuelan nationals in the United States, to the application of rules governing treatment of Maduro and his wife while in U.S. custody, to accountability for any war crimes committed in the course of the conflict.

Herself has a Theory: "I'm not saying it's the whole thing, but [Agent Orange] may have a downer on Maduro because he managed to hang onto power despite losing an election, while he couldn't despite his worst efforts." My theory is different: A junior officer in the Pentagon was given the exercise: "If you needed to take the head of Venezuela captive and put him on trial, how would you do it?" .... and this ended up (marked "2/10 See Me") in Stinkpuss's stash of top-secret bog paper in the Throne Room at Mar-a-Lago, then he read it and thought "because *Biden*" ....

I'm waiting for the heads of the (currently) Free World* to actually man up and call him out on this, but suspect on current form that I'll be waiting forever. I'm particularly disgusted at Starmer repeating the same mealy-mouthisms on a loop tape: that frog in particular is now well and truly boiled.

* I no longer believe I can include the USA in this. Apologies to those afflicted.

What I keep thinking about is covered in this article - I don't have access to the full article:

A Pardon and a Prosecution in New York Show Trump’s Personal Geopolitics

"The facts in the cases of Nicolás Maduro and Juan Orlando Hernández are strikingly similar. The men’s fates are not.

"A man in a blue puffer jacket is escorted by dozens of security officers.

"When President Juan Orlando Hernández of Honduras was extradited in 2022, his nation’s capital celebrated. President Trump pardoned him last month anyway.

"Two Latin American strongmen were charged in Manhattan with corrupting their governments, using state power to import hundreds of tons of cocaine into the United States.

"One, the former president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, was abruptly pardoned by President Trump last month.

"The other, President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela, was captured on Saturday in a military raid that Secretary of State Marco Rubio characterized as a law enforcement operation. Mr. Maduro was brought to the United States to face fresh allegations of narco-terrorism."

As the Trump continues his own objectives without senate approval with many "executive orders". Nixon was impeached for less than this USA dictator, who sides with Putin. The world is in a bad place now because of him. Greenland next and Putin Europe then as his disregard to international law example. As for diplomatic emmunity the felon has his on charges against him, but not on a president another country that ignores that one also. He places the world in a bad place now till voters have any sense then.

Minnesota's Tim Walz (former VP running mate of Harris) is not going to run for a third term as governor because of the Somalian welfare check scandal blooming in his state (much to Trump's glee and promotion). Most of the Somalian's who left Africa were not pirates but it takes just a few bad eggs to set up a scheme and profit from it. During COVID, apparently (remember that, Mr. Trump?), and from there out. Minnesota's US Senator Klobuchar is interested in running. Now if the stars (literally!) align and New York's Senator Gillibrand admits she was wrong about Al Franken during the "Me, Too" movement and keeps her mouth shut after that, Franken should run again and resume his seat from Minnesota.

A view not seen in the Media.

Venezuala and the Truth - Craig Murray

Here is an excerpt:-

The mainstream media covered Venezuela non-stop yesterday. They many times mentioned Delcy Rodríguez, Vice President, because Trump stated she is now in charge. They never mentioned that 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the torture to death of her father, socialist activist Jorge Rodríguez, by the CIA-backed security services of the US-aligned Pérez regime in Venezuela.
That would of course spoil the evil communists versus nice democrats narrative that is being forced down everybody’s throats.
Nor did they mention that the elected governments of Hugo Chávez reduced extreme poverty by over 70%, reduced poverty by 50%, halved unemployment, quadrupled the number receiving a state pension and achieved 100% literacy. Chávez took Venezuela from the most unequal society for wealth distribution in Latin America to the most equal.
Nor have they mentioned that María Corina Machado is from one of Venezuela’s wealthiest families, which dominated the electricity and steel industries before nationalisation, and that her backers are the very families that were behind those CIA-controlled murderous regimes.
Economic sanctions imposed by the West – and another thing they have not mentioned is that the UK has confiscated over £2 billion of the Venezuelan government’s assets – have made it difficult for the Maduro government to do much more than shore up the gains of the Chávez years.
But that Venezuela is a major production or trafficking point for narcotics entering the USA is simply a nonsense. Nicolás Maduro has his faults, but he is not a drug trafficking kingpin. The claim is utter garbage.

A very interesting response to tRump’s Venezuelan ‘adventure’, from the ‘I F**king Love Australia’ FB Page. In true Aussie style, it’s blunt, sweary, but right on the button…

One response to tRump’s Venezuelan ‘adventure’…

As usual, for the benefit of the Facebookphobes, here’s the text (which, unfortunately, doesn’t include the piece that prompted the IFLA response, but which can be viewed by following the link).

And, FWIW, on the basis of their opinion, I f**king love Australia too…

”Alright, here we fuckin go.

To all you absolute knobjockeys clapping like trained fuckin seals because Trump “got the job done” in Venezuela, let me ask you something real slow so it lands. Do you morons actually understand what the precedent is here, or are you just addicted to the sound of your own outrage?

This is one country marching into another country and ripping out their leadership. Elected, rigged, corrupt, whatever label you wanna slap on it to feel good at night. That’s still foreign invasion. That’s still smashing sovereignty with a crowbar and calling it freedom.

And spare me the dictator bullshit. Coming from Donald Trump, that’s fuckin rich. This is the same bloke who incited an insurrection because he lost a free and fair election. Stormed his own Capitol like a drunk bloke who got told the pub was closed. And now he’s pointing fingers about corrupt elections? Get absolutely fucked.

Then they wheel out the narco-terrorism line. Oh yeah, suddenly he’s the world’s top drug cop. Except he pardoned the former president of Honduras, a bloke tied to moving hundreds of tons of cocaine. Hundreds. Tons. That’s not a typo. That’s Scarface levels of gear. But nah, tell me more about law and order, champ.

This is where you should be shitting yourself.

Because once you cheer this shit on, you’ve basically said, “Yeah cool, powerful countries can just take what they want if they don’t like who’s running the place.” That’s the fuckin rule now. No UN. No norms. No alliances. Just vibes and missiles.

So what’s next then, legends? Why not take the Panama Canal back? Why not grab Greenland because it’s “strategic”? Why not bully some other country that’s sitting on oil, minerals, shipping lanes, or anything else Wall Street’s got a hard-on for?

That’s how dictators think. That’s how empires rot.

There used to be an order. Messy, flawed, but there was a basic understanding of lines you don’t cross. UN charters. International law. Allies not stabbing each other in the back for profit. That baby has now been hurled out the window with the bathwater, and you’re all cheering like it’s a fireworks show.

And let’s not pretend this bloke’s in control. This is an erratic, decaying president whose health is clearly going south, whose popularity is in the toilet, whose economy promises turned out to be bullshit. Grocery prices didn’t drop. Rent didn’t drop. Wages didn’t surge. Instead they cooked the inflation numbers, massaged unemployment stats, and expect you to swallow whatever slop the agencies shovel out.

The walls are closing in on him, and when that happens, strongmen don’t calm down. They lash out. They get reckless. They need distractions. They need enemies. They need cheers from idiots online telling them they’re doing a great job.

And that’s the last fucking thing the world needs right now. A bloke with a fragile ego, nuclear toys, and a crowd of mega trolls jerking him off every time he destabilises another region.

This isn’t strength. It’s not leadership. It’s not justice.

It’s a slippery fuckin slope straight into global instability, and you muppets applauding it are the same people who’ll be crying later going, “How did it all go so wrong?”

You’re watching it go wrong in real time, you dumb bastards.”

Graham Jones is a former Labour MP for Accrington South, a Front-Bencher for several years and, during that time, the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Venezuela. Here’s his opinion on the US-Venezuela situation, and it’s a very informative piece indeed, well worth reading the entire piece. It’s a long read, so I won’t reproduce it here, and I’ll leave it to those sufficiently interested to follow the link.

I believe that Graham Jones’ piece sheds light on the reasons for the failure of other world leaders, including Keir Starmer, to condemn the actions of the Trump regime.

And Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederickson, speaking to the tRump regime yesterday…

”I have to say this very directly to the United States:

It makes absolutely no sense to talk about the need for the US to take over Greenland. The United States has no access to annex one of the three countries in the Commonwealth.

The Kingdom of Denmark - and therefore Greenland - is a part of NATO and is therefore covered by the alliance's security guarantee. We already have a defense agreement today between the Kingdom and the United States, which gives the United States wide access to Greenland. And we from the Kingdom have invested significantly in the security of the Arctic.

I would, therefore, strongly urge that on the side of the United States, stop the threats against a historically close ally and to another country and another people, who have very clearly stated that they are not for sale.

Mette Frederiksen
Prime Minister”

I took the time to look up Thucydides (thanks, Lighter), and the expression "fear and self-interest" jumped out at me. It then occurred to me that the ultimate con is to stampede victims into doing things which are against their self-interest, traditionally by pushing the Fear button hard and often enough. This thread and its predecessors are awash with examples. The counter-spell of course is knowledge, and guess what the first action of a budding dictator will be --- ?

.... Methinks the arrival of the Grim Squeaker at (the rubble of) the White House is well overdue.

A chain of comments on an ElReg article:

In a system called democracy, society should not just "have to adapt" to any minority-made (i.e. billionaire-made) life- and world-changing developments...

"a system called democracy" != "democracy"

This fact has been the source of some confusion in the US of A for many many years. Even the POTUS has problems with it.

Surprised no one has piped up with "it's a republic, not a democracy" yet.

'cause it is an Empire, not a republic.

Any mention of "Empire" in the context should be followed by the "no clothes" bit. It just fits.

Trump's ICE is ill-prepared to do the same in America, at least not without a Reichstag fire-style con job. The National Guard has already started practicing for martial law with their deployment without cause in American cities. Trump behaves as if he has an enabling act to carry out formerly illegal acts.

The number of ICE sponsored murders are increasing as if by design.

The 2025 Project Trump deconstructionists might fear that Trump is near his decomposition/death, and they must do everything, everywhere, all at once, while he is still above ground.

Trump has many similarities to Louis XVI as someone so vain and dedicated to his own wealth and comfort. Instead of tanks rolling through Washington, D.C., a lot of people would appreciate the sound of tumbrels. I'll bring the yarn and knitting needles.

Meanwhile, back at the threats to Greenland: Might Denmark's best reply be a flotilla of Viking longboats being rowed up the Potomac, and someone in a horned* helmet setting fire to the White House? but I forget: the Narcissus in Chief has preempted any such move by starting his own Götterdämmerung exercise with JCBs.

.... Sigh: everything that happens is a distraction from everything else that's happening.

Jesse Watters's viewers won't care too much how many children she has. It won't register.

"Self-proclaimed," "poet," "Colorado" [a blue state]," "pronouns in her bio" paint her as a far-left, possibly LGBTQ, weirdo. "Lost her life" not "was killed." Meaning: "sad, but she should have behaved herself." (Weirdos don't often do so.)

The diction is prejudicial: charged language, argument from verbal connotation. Perhaps Fox's broader coverage was fairer (I haven't been listening). Contrast the effect of "a 37-year-old mom from Colorado, whose ex-husband told Fox [as he did CNN] that she'd never taken part in a political protest."

We all use "pronouns." But Fox means a very special kind of pronoun. Otherwise, why even mention?

The Vice-President has very emphatically said that she "lost her life because she tried to ram somebody with a car." Videos from various angles make this statement doubtful at best.

However, because DHS and the President have already called the incident an "act of domestic terrorism," charges almost certainly will never be brought.

Vance on X:

"Do you think this officer was wrong in defending his life against a deranged leftist who tried to run him over?”

Of course not! (If that's what happened....)

All Democrats are now called "leftists," which in my day was pretty much restricted to socialists and communists.

And not just "leftists": "deranged leftists." This has become a usual phrase. I can't recall even Khrushchev at the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis being described as a "deranged" leftist.

And, of course, we don't know if Renee Good was even a Democrat.

(Dems, by the way, who, Stephen Miller warns, "lend aid and comfort to domestic terrorists" like Renee Good.)

Why couldn’t that ICE guy have moved aside and let Renée Good’s car pass him by? Why was it necessary to carry out a summary execution?

Well, the video I saw on the ABC (Oz) News site shows no-one being run over or impacted by the vehicle which was being driven slowly in an attempt to make a U-turn, and no obvious cause for the ICE guy to fire point plank into the victim's head, at least three times.

I just watched the two most recently aired (in Oz) episodes of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. A lot of pointed observations were made and one brief comment was that Trump threatened to take action against Iran if any peaceful protesters were injured or killed.

Pot? Kettle? Black? One story for others and another for himself.

Journalist and author Chris Hayes was interviewed and he had some very specific and thought-provoking comments. Well worth watching.

ICE ambushed Ms. Good by first blocking her with a minivan, causing her to seek an exit. Last year, I called ICE a new Gestapo. It is living up to Gestapo standards. She was guilty of blowing a whistle to warn neighbors of ICE activity. This all took place 7 blocks away from where George Floyd was murdered by police.

Identical to Germany's first detention camp, Dachau, and every subsequent concentration camp, they allowed no mayor or judicial visits. This is identical for US ICE detention centers.

A normalization of martial law tactics will increase up to the next Presidential election coup when the main event will occur.

Vance says the only people lying about the ICE shooting are the lunatic fringe on the left. He says the agent who defended himself has absolute immunity. That is not true unless you include a Presidential pardon. It is time to call this ICE action an execution.

This is what MAGA has desired from the President's racist white power authority. Never mind that the victim was a white Christian; she has been pronounced to be a domestic terrorist by the administration. It would be desirable for authoritarian rule to normalize mass murder and executions for obvious control reasons. It's time to nip this in the bud.

Minnesota has already had the assassination of two State Democratic Senators by a MAGA nut dressed and masked as an ICE agent at the victim's home. This year, there have been 2 shootings there, of which one was by ICE.

Going to a march today, making the sign now (something on both sides - don't waste that real estate!)

Here is a long post (I haven't tracked it all of the way back to the first post, the credit from a journalist friend says "from a person on a 'Veterans Against Trump FB page'":

There seems to be a lot of Keyboard attorneys online today. So, as an actual attorney, I'd like to cite actual law. The ICE officer in MN violated both protocol and case law. 1) officers are not allowed to fire into a moving vehicle 2) lethal force is not allowed to prevent someone from fleeing 3) case law is clear, an officer cannot intentionally place himself in front of a vehicle and then allege self defense At best, this officer acted with a reckless disregard for public safety and is guilty of negligent homicide. Federal agents do not have blanket immunity from state laws or criminal prosecution. They can be prosecuted by state authorities for violating state laws if their actions were unauthorized, unlawful, or unreasonable, even if they were on duty.

The concept governing this is called Supremacy Clause immunity. Federal agents are generally immune from state prosecution only if their actions were:

Authorized under federal law; and "Necessary and proper" to fulfill their federal duties.
If a federal agent is charged in state court, they can petition to have their case "removed" to federal court. In federal court, the judge would then determine whether the agent's actions met the "necessary and proper" standard. If the court finds the agent was acting within the reasonable confines of their duties, the state charges will be dismissed. If not, the state prosecution can proceed in federal court, applying state substantive law. It is unlikely any judge would find his behavior necessary and reasonable. The mere fact that no other officer present unholstered their weapon and appear shocked he fired towards them reinforces that fact.

Estate of Starks v. Enyart, 5 F.3d 230 (7th Cir. 1993)
Seventh Circuit – foundational caseFacts:
Officer stepped in front of a slowly moving vehicle and then shot the driver, claiming fear for his life.

Holding (paraphrased):
“An officer may not unreasonably create a physically threatening situation and then use deadly force to escape it.”
Adams v. Speers, 473 F.3d 989 (9th Cir. 2007) Ninth Circuit
Facts:
Officer jumped in front of a vehicle during a stop and then fired.

Holding:
An officer cannot provoke a confrontation and then rely on the danger they created to justify deadly force.
Key language:
The court emphasized that reasonableness includes the officer’s own tactical decisions leading up to the shooting.
Thompson v. Hubbard, 257 F.3d 896 (8th Cir. 2001)
Eighth Circuit
Key point:
The court rejected summary judgment for officers where evidence showed the officer moved into the vehicle’s path, creating the perceived threat.
Abraham v. Raso, 183 F.3d 279 (3d Cir. 1999)
Third Circuit
Facts:
Off-duty officer shot a fleeing driver.

Holding:
The court stressed that pre-seizure conduct matters and that officers cannot rely solely on the “split second” framing if their own actions escalated the situation.
Kirby v. Duva, 530 F.3d 475 (6th Cir. 2008)

Holding:
*Deadly force may be unconstitutional where:
*The officer fired into a moving vehicle
*The officer could have stepped aside
*The threat was self-created
The Sixth Circuit explicitly rejected the idea that a moving car automatically justifies gunfire.
Adams v. Speers, 473 F.3d 989 (9th Cir. 2007)

Holding:
An officer may not intentionally place himself in danger and then use deadly force to neutralize the danger he created — including firing into a vehicle.
The Ninth Circuit emphasized tactical disengagement as the constitutional expectation.
Training & Policy Alignment (Courts Care About This)
Many courts note that modern police training instructs:
*Do not fire into moving vehicles
*Do not use deadly force to stop a fleeing car
*Disengage and contain instead
Courts treat violations of training as evidence of unreasonableness, even if not dispositive.

I've tried to give it line breaks so it is readable, but may have broken his paragraphs of related content in the cases described.

I just read an ABC (Oz) News article by an analytical journalist who says that the Venezuelan oil is not likely to be as lucrative as expected, so probably not worth the whole invasion exercise.

Has Trump landed a dud with his Venezuelan oil play?

By chief business correspondent Ian Verrender

My summary: The price of oil has plummeted, oil is less likely to be needed to the same extent as now when renewable power becomes more available and less oil based fuel is used for vehicles, and the oil from Venezuela needs a lot more processing than oil from most other areas so its price is usually lower to account for the extra processing costs.

A lack of intelligence isn't an indicator of inability to get elected. (To serve effectively in office is an entirely different question: See Ronald Reagan, both Bushes, and Dan Quayle, topped off with Trump twice.) Being smart and efficient seems to be a liability when it's the delivery of one-liners that gets people elected. (I'm reading Andy Borowitz's Profiles in Ignorance: How America's Politicians Got Dumb and Dumber - when writing history instead of satire he still pulls no punches.)

Thanks for that author and title, Stilly. Sadly, when I tried to follow that link, my browser took one look and said "*bletch*", and that were that; I remember reading something similar in the last couple of weeks, but it had *gawn* before I could quote it here. There is a war on Americans by this authoritarian regime.
It is the beginning of the lethality that fascists feel pride and power in their stranglehold of authority. They want us to be normalized to the murder yet frightened to protest.

There are current debates that claim protestors are domestic terrorists. You know how Bush treated terrorists. Those concentration camps were outside the US border. Now they are in many States.

BBC seeks to have Donald Trump's $15b defamation lawsuit dismissed

"In short: The BBC is seeking to have Donald Trump's defamation lawsuit against the broadcaster — filed in the United States — dismissed.

"Mr Trump's lawsuit alleges the BBC violated a Florida law over its editing of a speech he gave in 2021 before the storming of the US Capitol.

"The BBC's dismissal motion in court says the US president could not plausibly allege that the documentary edit was published with 'actual malice'."

Peanut's Lucy provided inexpensive psychiatric advice.
I believe she would find that Donald has a great many repressed memories of abuse from his KKK father. His older brother did not repress many of the same abuses and sought alcohol to help repress them.

For Donald those repressed memories of the abuse and other people's reaction to the hate he was taught created a reservoir of a need of retribution. His life's foundation is built upon sand that makes this late regressive time of his life collapse into an abyss of hate and revenge.

And all his other actions in his whole life including ensuring poverty and suffering for ordinary (i.e. not rich) people in the rest of the world and his own home country, abusing and denigrating women, encouraging suffering and death in relation to health e.g. his actions during COVID, his encouragement and protection of RFK Jr and his whacko claims, and his me-me-me attitude to everything.

I still have a giggle that if he tries to claim financial damage he would have to produce his financial records to prove it. Trump craves any retaliation for his actions to unleash a war that finds popular support. He'll say, "See, we were attacked."

The desire for a peace prize is just a ruse. He may as well desire Olympic medals for figure skating.

The living witnesses of the rise of the 3rd Reich all explain the incremental method of suppression. Each time a new incident, rule or oppression happened, they said it was just one more thing, it'll blow over. After one crazy thing after another, after each outrageous lie, there came a time when the deportation was not only secretive but deadly.

It was naive to think fellow citizens would be part of the high crimes. These were, after all, just ordinary neighbors and friends.

From the official FB Page of Janis Ian, a transcript of the letter from Bill and Hillary Clinton to James Comer, responding to his attempt to subpœna them over the Epstein Files. Some very good points made in there…

”WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON
HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON

January 13, 2026

Chairman Comer,

We want to take a moment, given everything, to address you directly.

This past year has seen our Government engage in unprecedented acts, including against our own citizens. People have been seized by masked federal agents from their homes, their workplaces, and the streets of their communities. Students and scientists with visas permitting them to study and work here have been deported without due process. The people who laid siege to the U.S. Capitol have been pardoned and called heroes. Agencies vital to the country's national security have been dismantled. Universities, media companies, and law firms have been subjected to threats to their funding, access, and licensing unless they made concessions and surrendered their right to constitutionally protected free speech. American troops have been deployed on the streets of our towns and cities. The Justice Department has been used as a weapon, at the direction of the President, to pursue political opponents. And most recently and searingly, an ICE agent killed an unarmed mother only days ago.

Every person has to decide when they have seen or had enough and are ready to fight for this country, its principles and its people, no matter the consequences.

For us, now is that time.

We are lucky by virtue of the positions we held, and the protections afforded by them. But we are not blind. Every day we see the country we have dedicated our lives to improving take step after step after step backwards.

As chairman of this powerful congressional committee, you have immense power to target anyone and subject them to closed door interrogation and more. The decisions you have made, and the priorities you have set as chairman regarding the Epstein investigation, have prevented progress in discovering the facts about the government's role.

The facts speak for themselves: You subpoenaed eight people in addition to us. You dismissed seven of those eight without any of them saying a single word to you. You made no attempt to force them to appear. In fact, since you started your investigation last year, you have interviewed a total of two people. Two.

A legal analysis prepared by two law firms and provided to you yesterday makes clear your subpoenas are legally invalid. You claim your subpoenas are inviolate when they are used against us yet were silent when the sitting President took the same position, as a former president, barely more than three years ago. We call on you to release that analysis to the public to allow them to see how this is yet another example of the casual disregard of the law of the land. All the while, you have done nothing with your oversight capacity to force the Department of Justice to follow the law and release all its Epstein files, including any material regarding us as we have publicly called for.

Over the last year in the House, extending health care for Americans in any state succeeded only because enough Republicans joined with Democrats. The fact that the public and we are seeing any of the Department of Justice's Epstein files is only because four Republicans, out of 220, joined every Democrat to reach the minimum number of Members to force a vote. You were not one of those four. Even now, despite the Department of Justice's failure to follow the law the Congress passed, you have chosen not to consider subpoenaing the sitting Attorney General to follow the law.

Despite everything that needs to be done to help our country, you are on the cusp of bringing Congress to a halt to pursue rarely used process literally designed to result in our imprisonment. This is not the way out of America's ills, and we will forcefully defend ourselves.

Indeed, bringing the Republicans' cruel agenda to a standstill while you work harder to pass a contempt charge against us than you have done on your investigation this past year would be our contribution to fighting the madness.

We have tried to give you the little information we have. We've done so because Mr. Epstein's crimes were horrific. If the Government didn't do all it could to investigate and prosecute these crimes, for whatever reason, that should be be the focus of your work - to learn why and to prevent that from happening ever again. There is no evidence that you are doing so. Instead, you have forced the victims to relive their painful experiences, while doing little to give them and everybody else what's deserved: truth and justice. There is no plausible explanation for what you are doing other than partisan politics.

You accepted the least from those who know the most but demand the most from those who know the least. To say you can't complete your work without speaking to us is simply bizarre.

You have asked what we know. To answer your inquiry, we are providing you with the same or more than seven of the other eight individuals you subpoenaed regarding the handling of the Epstein investigations and prosecutions, which may be why you have not publicly released their written statements.

We expect you will say it is not enough. We expect you'll reject it. You may even set out an empty empty chair chair o or stand in front of the cameras and outright dismiss what we have provided. We expect you will direct your committee to seek to hold us in contempt. You may even release irrelevant, decades-old photos that you hope will embarrass us. You will say your caucus, and the Speaker and the President are behind you 100%. We hope, perhaps in vain, that they will not allow you to singlehandedly hijack the Congress by unilaterally making this decision for your colleagues, your party, and our country.

You will say it is not our decision to make. But we have made it. Now you have to make yours.

We are prepared to make our case to your 45 committee members, and if need be, more. Importantly, we also will defend ourselves in the public arena and ensure this country knows exactly what you are doing and why you are doing so, instead of helping the American people who need this Congress's work and protection.

For most people, maybe even the bulk of the Congress, today will be the first they learn of this dispute. We are confident that any reasonable person in or out of Congress will see, based on everything we release, that what you are doing is trying to punish those who you see as your enemies and to protect those think are your friends.

Continue to mislead Americans about what is truly at stake, and you will learn that Americans are better at finding the truth than you are at burying it.

Continue to pursue autopens instead of penning laws Americans need, and you will learn that you are signing away any remaining chance of being on the right side of history.

Continue to abet the dismantling of America, and you will learn that it takes more than a wrecking ball to demolish what Americans have built over 250 years.

Sincerely,

[signed]
Bill Clinton
Hillary Rodham Clinton”

Or the act that's a nightmare of death
Or the scene where the villain's on meth
That's execution!

The lights on the lady in a spot
Or the cop with the gun thats still hot
Or the ICE where they give it a shot
That's execution!

The plot can be hot, simply full of trauma
Or a guy killed by tariffs who once was a farmer
It could be the fault of Obama
Where a chap kills his father and causes lots of bother

The clerk who is thrown out of work
By the boss who acts like a jerk
Or the skirt who is doing him dirt
The world is a stage; the stage is a world of entertainment!

It might be a fight like you see on the screen
A king being slain for the love of a queen
Some great Shakespearean scene
Where police meet a gal, then she ends in mincemeat

The guy who was waving the flag
That began with hating the fags
Hip hooray! The American way
The world is a stage; the stage is a world of execution!

When it rains, Donald's suing the sky
He wants to buy Greenland, only god knows why
Its Revenge, not drugs, that makes him high
The world is a stage; the stage is a world of execution!

Looking at the latest website from the Whitehouse I could not help thinking about the "Ministry of Truth" in George Orwell's 1984. Here is brief AI generated summary:-

The Role of the Ministry of Truth
In George Orwell's "1984," the Ministry of Truth is responsible for altering historical records. This manipulation ensures that the Party's narrative remains unchallenged. The slogan, "Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past," encapsulates the Party's strategy. By constantly rewriting history, the Party maintains its power and control over the populace.

Methods of Historical Manipulation
The Party employs several methods to rewrite history:
    • Destruction of Records: Original documents are destroyed, and new versions are created to fit the Party's current narrative.
    • Creation of False Figures: Characters like Comrade Ogilvy are fabricated to support the Party's propaganda, demonstrating how easily the truth can be manufactured.
    • Censorship: Books and other materials that contradict the Party's version of events are banned or altered.

Impact on Society
The constant rewriting of history leads to a society where:
    • Truth is Subjective: Citizens are unable to trust their memories or the information they receive, creating a state of confusion and compliance.
    • Loss of Individual Thought: The manipulation of history discourages critical thinking, as people are conditioned to accept the Party's version of reality without question.
    • Cultural Amnesia: With the past continuously altered, the population loses its historical context, making it easier for the Party to control their beliefs and actions.

The themes of historical manipulation in "1984" serve as a warning about the dangers of totalitarianism and the importance of preserving truth in society.

Leaping leptons, instead of crushing like a Gnat King Coal, the Trump administration gave a $725 million investment to coal. The administration announced $625 million for recommissioning and modernizing coal-fired power plants, followed by an additional $100 million to help plants recover valuable resources from wastewater and enable fuel-switching capabilities.

Trump supposedly started selling stolen oil and stopped selling Venezuelan oil to Cuba. Global warming is going full speed ahead.

Spotted in today's Daily Star* by whoever does the BBC Red Button's newspaper review column: Diddums has been given a gold medal by its original recipient, to which the Star's comment is "put it down .... it isn't yours". News coverage remains silent on whether what was handed over was actually chocolate money.

What annoyed me is that the Star has redubbed the honour in question the "ig-nobel peace prize". I look forward to the inevitable retaliatory inaction when this year's Iggies are awarded.

* For West-Pondians: a news rag which treats political events with all the dignity they deserve.

† The Nobel committee agree: they've stated that the prize is non-transferable, so ner.

Central to every tryanny, attack upon Americans and globally, is the use of the 'Emergency Powers Act.' THE PRESIDENT DECLARES AN EMERGENCY AND BYPASSES LAW. Mr Trump does not appear to have understood that adding import tariffs just increases the price of goods for US citizens, unless the sellers decrease their prices. It is his taxpayers who pay the price for increased tariffs.

Trump ties Greenland demands to Nobel Prize in message to Norway leader after he was not awarded the Nobel Peace Prize last year. In a message to Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Trump blamed the country for not giving him the prize.

In his reply to Trump, Støre explained that an independent committee, not the government of Norway, awards the prize which last October went to Venezuela's opposition leader María Corina Machado.

In the same message to Støre, Trump insisted the US needed "Complete and Total Control of Greenland" - the semi autonomous Danish territory. Asked later if he planned to use force to seize it, he replied "no comment" ...

very new article! Wikipedia - Board of Peace All I want to know is who/what gets the billion dollars mentioned in news reports if the board member wants to stay longer than 3 years.

so I just typed "board of piece 1 billion dollars" - oops, I caught it - "board of peace 1 billion dollars" resulted in lots of results.

Bloomberg won't let me read their article, but CNN gave me the answer ... The hindsight will involve looking at the parts of our system that we always followed because of tradition, not legislation. Things like the Justice Department being separate from the White House and non-political; it hasn't always been that way, but it started that practice decades ago (after Nixon) and Trump bashed the wall between Justice and his meddling. There are lots of practices that are hide-bound but not etched in legal stone. Trump is blowing the place up as he ignores the standard practice. It means we have to legislate some of these things into being, and remove that Supreme Court nonsense that the president is above the law.

Another really stupid 'customary' thing is allowing a Prez candidate to handpick a VP candidate based on nothing but personal whim. This currently has us looking at a grossly unqualified and unstable successor to Trump, whom no one actually vetted or campaigned for. And as much as rational people would love to see a female president, Kamala was also a weak candidate who won zero delegates for the prez nomination, then 4 years later could not deliver enough votes when needed.

Part of that is the Electoral College, put in place when the slave-holding states wanted more power for themselves without freeing or giving the vote to slaves. The "swing states" in the electoral college are what gave Trump the election, not the popular vote.

The Supreme Court decision years ago called "Citizens United" allowed corporations and foundations to throw in big money to because they were granted personhood and the right to "speech." This leads to a lot more deceptive advertising in play.

Both of these things need to be fixed.

This from the article I linked:
President Trump has never been a man to ask what he can do for his country. In his second term, as in his first, he is instead testing the limits of what his country can do for him.

He has poured his energy and creativity into the exploitation of the presidency — into finding out just how much money people, corporations and other nations are willing to put into his pockets in hopes of bending the power of the government to the service of their interests.

A review by the editorial board relying on analyses from news organizations shows that Mr. Trump has used the office of the presidency to make at least $1.4 billion. We know this number to be an underestimate because some of his profits remain hidden from public view. And they continue to grow.

His expansionism is for the same reason, to tilt world coffers in his direction to roll directly into his pockets. Much of the crap we're hearing is window dressing (and still trying to block the Epstein files, in which how many under-18 girls will be in evidence as having been raped by the Donald. Even he seems to understand that is a bridge too far.)

Europe holds the trump card as the US faces a mountain of debt Mark Carney summed it up neatly. The "rules-based global order" was no more and it was time to wake up, Canada's prime minister told the annual gathering of the rich and richer in the Swiss ski resort of Davos.

America's worldview has shifted. Rather than rely upon a network of staunch allies, as it has done for the past eight decades, it has reverted to an ethos more akin to the law of the jungle, where the strongest impose their will at their pleasure.

The US attacks on Venezuela, the kidnapping of its president and the unrelenting demands for Denmark to hand over Greenland have stunned those in diplomatic circles in recent weeks.

That's paralleled the vicious attacks on the US Federal Reserve and its leadership, which have rattled global investors.

"Call the system what it is: a period where the most powerful pursue their interests using economic integration as a weapon of coercion," the Canadian leader told the World Economic Forum.

Carney knows, more than most, exactly how that system works.

As the former head of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, he's well aware of the geopolitical threat US President Donald Trump's dramatic policy shifts impose on global stability.

But Carney is also acutely aware of America's great vulnerability. That's why he is prepared to face up to Trump   ...

The so-called ICE administrative warrant is a secret that does not need to be publicized, so the date can be added at any time after a home break-in. This White House memo was recently accidentally discovered.

IF a President had the power to lower interest rates before an election, he could heat up the economy before an election. Only afterward would inflation or runaway inflation occur after the election. This is why Mr. T wants to control the independent Fed.

There was a reference earlier to 25A; the Twenty-fifth amendment to the US Constitution allows his cabinet to remove him if they all think he is unable to serve. But his cabinet is bonkers so that isn't going to happen. They are his enablers.

If people keep dropping in with short little meaningless "me, too" quips we're going to have to start a new thread (before this hits 700). Think about if it really needs to be posted, or if you can save it up and put in two or three thoughts at a time.

We obviously have a different view on what constitutes ‘difficult’ Doug. If I find myself not understanding a colloquialism in someone’s post, I rather enjoy the process of finding the meaning and, in so doing, expanding my own knowledge a little. Twenty seconds or so with my preferred search-engine usually sorts it out for me, without this kind of to-ing and fro-ing and attempting to score points. It’s completely unnecessary, and adds nothing to the discussion on the thread.

If Trump gets removed because of his unreasonable behaviour, Vance couldn't carry on in the same vein witnout risking being removed himself, in turn. I'd go with Vance over what we have now.

The FUOB has been opening his flappy mouth again without first engaging whatever small amount of brain he possesses. This time he has claimed that NATO troops avoided serving on the ‘front line’ in Afghanistan, clearly having no clue about the British presence in Helmand Province, where they lost 457 lives.

Here’s British MP, Emily Thornberry, in glorious flight on the BBC’s ‘Question Time’ telling it precisely how it is.

It really is time that senile old fool was removed from the Presidency. He’s making the US not just a laughing stock, but arguably the country most hated by the rest of the world.

Apart from the American member, all were in agreement that a line had been crossed in the past week or so, and that the European nations were right to stand together in solidarity against tRump.

My question would be, given his history of cheating on his wives and his employees, his stiffing of sub-contractors, and his treachery against his own staff in government, why is anyone surprised by his appalling behaviour towards other NATO member-countries, and his insulting comments against their forces who did something he never had courage to be involved in?

Sorry to say, BWM, but I agree with Doug C on this. I had NFI what you were referring to, and if an ex-librarian doesn't have enough info to make a search, that could be telling you something. ?? LOL

UK PM Keir Starmer demands Donald Trump apologise for 'appalling' claim NATO troops swerved frontline

"In short: Veterans, NATO leaders and Prince Harry have reacted with anger after US President Donald Trump said veterans from other NATO member states avoided the frontline in Afghanistan.

"British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the comments were 'insulting and frankly appalling' and has called on Mr Trump to apologise.

"Article 5 of the NATO treaty, which states an attack on one is an attack on all, has been invoked only once — following the September 11, 2001 attacks — after which European allies responded by joining the US-led mission in Afghanistan."

And another ABC(Oz) article which shows tRump's attempts to gild the lily:

US officials tout 'New Gaza' plans filled with shiny luxury skyscrapers

What a surprise! (Not!)

Not just that. In Comments on Diddums's Dav(r)os Coredump, I found the following:

"It took the focus away from cost of living and abused young girls"

More importantly, it's distracting from Jack Smith's testifying - today IIRC - that he has a case solid enough to convict Trump for inciting the J6 insurrection.

It's an interesting and unique legal case; because as per the 14th Amendment an insurrectionist cannot stand for president, Trump is not the president now. This raises the argument that the Republicans didn't stand a candidate in 2024, which would mean Kamala Harris is President. This doesn't just eject Trump, it takes his entire administration with him as they would all be serving under false pretences.

This is the first I've seen this.* Can anybody shed light on it? Not that anything is likely to come of it: as another Commentard remarked, Diddums has the USSA by the SCOTUS.

Once I've calmed down a bit, I'll contribute extracts from an article in the New European World before last. Look out for "the chaos is the whole point"; stand by your browsers.

* Mission accomplished.

ICE claims the nurse intended to mass murder as many agents as possible. In actuality, the victim was trying to block the assault of a woman who was being attacked savagely by agents.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the President cannot legally be considered an insurrectionist, because he has not been convicted of insurrection in any court of law. He is innocent unless and until proven guilty.

And because he is a sitting president, elected by the people, he cannot be brought to trial now.

So that's that. DJT is President under the Constitution.

Believe Your Eyes
People are risking their lives to document agents in Minneapolis.

I don't know if people will be able to open this, I can't find a button for sharing it at the moment. If one turns up I'll update the link. In The Atlantic.
Chances are, you’ve seen Richard Tsong-Taatarii’s photo. Taken Wednesday in Minneapolis, it shows an unidentifiable protester face down on the ground; two Border Patrol agents are on top of him, holding him there, while a third unloads pepper spray into his face from just inches away.

The photo ran on the front page of The Minnesota Star Tribune on Friday and already feels like a defining image of the long ICE incursion in Minneapolis—a powerful illustration of how the agency has acted, in broad daylight, with excessive force and impunity.

This is just one example of federal agents terrorizing people in the city. There’s also the photo of a 5-year-old boy being detained outside his home. There’s the video of an agent chasing a teenager through the snow on a residential street as the boy yells “I’m legal” in Spanish. And yesterday, the world saw footage of Alex Pretti, a nurse who worked in the ICU of a Veterans Affairs hospital, as agents pepper-sprayed him, knocked him down, appeared to remove a legally permitted gun from his person, and fired at least 10 bullets into his prone body. (Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino has claimed that the agents were the “real victims” and suggested that they were acting in self-defense.)

The rest is at the link.

Stand by for blasting ---

[...]
As the driver of a narrative, Trump intuitively grasps that, to compel attentrion and compliance, a political story must have two core features. First, it must achieve emotional resonance, grip its audience and keep social media ablaze with updates.
[...]
Trump thrives on plot beats, pace, twists, suspense, drama, action, jump scares, cliff-hangers. [...] These dissonances --- these abrupt shofts in focus and tone --- are not an error. They are the whole point.

For the second core feature of a 21st-century political story is its relentlessness.
[...]
Though this deranged notion [to expand the USA's land mass by swallowing Greenland] threatens the entire NATO edifice [...] it is not a conflict with Europe that Trump seeks. I don't think that prospect alarms or seriously crosses his mind. What he is really after is the establishment of a war mentality at home.

This is where spectacle and power converge. In a chilling interview with CNN's Jake Tapper last Monday, Stephen Miller, Trump's increasingly influencial chief of staff, was quite brazen about the administration's view that might and right are inseperable.
[...]
-- Matthew D'Ancona, "A dark age of spectacle and power",
The New World, issue 467, Jan 15th 2026, pp 14--15

This is only a taster; I can't do full justice to the original, which is around forty column-inches (one-and-a-quarter pages) in length. (It may or may not now be available for reading in full on TNW's website.) It mentions that the Oik *wants* riots at home, but not why. He's already cried "havoc" and let loose the orcs of ICE, but to cement him in place forever, he needs an insurrection, or something which passes for one to F*x News's satisfaction.

But these pesky citizens will insist on videoing real and contradictory evidence. How long before a camera is reclassified as a firearm?

PS: The Mouth of Sauron, in her press conference just concluded, alleged that there's now been two fingers bitten off by protesters. No pictures, let alone hands, were produced as evidence.

My mistake: the article doesn't mention the immediate goal, but it does conclude with the long game (emphasis in original):

[...]

This is Trump's own finaql command: that you believe his story, though it is obviously false. [...]

Like Winston, the world now lies on a bedframe and Trump, like O'Brien, has his hand on the dial, insisting that "2+2=5". It is not enough to honour him. We must really assent to his madness.

Winston tells O'Brien that "the spirit of Man" will defeat him. Will it?

Often, people accidentally tell half the story.
Ronald Reagan increased border enforcement, created the first private immigration detention centers, and implemented specific, smaller-scale enforcement actions like the 1982 "Project Jobs" which detained 5,400 people. Simultaneously, he signed the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, which granted amnesty and legal status to nearly 3 million undocumented immigrants.

Tonight Rachel Maddow is discussing the crumbling of support for these ICE and Homeland Security officials (including the top - Noem) within the White House. This doesn't mean that Trump or Miller are changing their minds about their policies, but it means they realize they are in a lot of trouble and will cut their losses by tossing out a few administrators.

Things to consider in regard to all of these protests: in the US citizens and residents of all races are stepping up, but the Anglo population feels safest about going out because they are White. They are defending their friends and neighbors who are immigrants or naturalized or who are undocumented. Clearly that sense of privilege and safety has been shattered with the execution of Good and Pretti. They mean well, but until the whole white population is equally outraged when brown and black immigrants and citizens are harmed (and there have been many more hurt and killed) with each case becoming a huge headline, we're not there yet. Episodes come to the top - the ICE folks using a five-year-old as bait to get his father to come out of the house, the various early deportations that ignored judges saying "not so fast." Supporters of African American murder victim Brianna Taylor are incensed when EuroAmericans chant "Say Her Name" for Renee Nicole Good, feeling that it has been appropriated and not enough attention is paid to minority victims of this bad behavior (and past offenses by police in general). There is a lot of work to do. Right now, it would be best if all of the groups can work together, instead of arguing amongst themselves. (Trump and his ilk use the tool of dividing us so we bicker amongst ourselves, weakening our strength to get rid of them.)

Toddler Trump may have had too many lead paint chips in his Queen's youth but he learned his dad's basic lessons of not paying and tying plaintiffs up in court, as well as a good dose of bigotry. As an adult with the Taj Mahal Casino, he found out the Mob had to be paid and how selling off in bankruptcy is part of the plan. Extortion and threats were now in his playbook. This strategy has worked for him to this day. He demanded billions of dollars from S Korea and recently piled tariffs up on them for not paying promptly.

Even an addled brain from lead poisoning can use bigotry and mob mentality effectively. With more power mere threats can be replaced with various criminal acts. He is currently enjoying his adventures with vicarious murder.

Individually, each situation may look like nothing much, but combine them all and consider the fact that they are happening simultaneously, around the world and in the US and that is where the glimmer of hope can be found, IMHO.

"In short: The Trump administration's military campaign of striking boats in the Caribbean and Pacific oceans is facing its first legal challenge through the US courts.

"Families of two men, Chad Joseph and Rishi Samaroo, allege the pair were murdered while returning to the Caribbean island nation of Trinidad during a strike on October 14 last year.

"The Trump administration has previously framed the attacks as being a war against drug cartels."

What is in the EU-India trade deal and what does it mean for global trade?

Note: the main concept of this article is that Trump's tactics are working against both him and the US in relation to the economic decisions of other countries.

Tensions in Minnesota could send the US into another government shutdown — here's why

"Politicians across the spectrum in the United States are looking for ways forward as public outrage intensifies in Minnesota.

"As President Donald Trump sends in his 'border czar', Democrats are weighing whether to trigger a partial government shutdown."

This article is by a highly valued ABC (Oz) analytical journalist, Laura Tingle - always worth reading, IMHO:

Immigration was at the centre of Donald Trump's 2024 win, but it's now mired in controversy

"Donald Trump's presidency is increasingly being described as at a turning point that compels the Congress to take action to restrain him.

"The political mishandling of an escalating ICE crisis in Minneapolis — on top of a series of foreign policy threats and reversals — resulted in a poll by The Economist/YouGov finding an extraordinary 71 per cent of Americans reporting they felt like the country is 'out of control'.

"More than 60 per cent say the country is on the wrong track, and 58 per cent are dissatisfied with the way democracy is working.

"And just in case you think this might simply reflect one side of politics in an increasingly bitterly divided America, 50 per cent of those saying they felt things were out of control identified themselves as conservatives."

There are a lot more of these situations which are being reported on, and I have a sneaking feeling that the multiple and various sheepdogs are closing in on the renegade.

Good report Helen, thank you for sharing

As usual the World is waking up slowly ~ and I do hope the Senate does work together to restrain the Big T

Tariffs used as a lethal weapon will eventually rebound on the people of US and the economy will suffer as potential customers "shop around" or make themselves

We all need to work together ~ see also Mark Carney' take on this ~ Canadian PM and former Bank of England Governor

Big T continues to work off the back of a cigarette packet on an empty head ~ his power seems vested in armed mercenaries

Do not forget that the capture of Maduro killed over 100 people

Mr T will not allow any civil rights to be applied to the Federal killing of Pretti.

He says that Minnesotans have been radicalized and are mostly paid demonstrators with Trump derangement.

Paid by whom? Radicalized by Trump, and why no more civil rights?

Men, Women, and certain races are not created equal; they are not endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, like Life, and Liberty, but the pursuit of Happiness by Trump and his friends is paramount.

Compare that with any Police Academy.
DHS funding that includes ICE already has an appropriation of
Seventy-five Billion Dollars!

They want more money to build their Gestapo shock troop Army.
This is how much ICE agents make with bonuses...

At the end of the war, Hitler used troops from the ages of 16 to 60; however, even 10-year-olds had auxiliary roles.
Trump is more honorable than Hitler when it comes to the age of troops.

basic training for the US Army is 10 weeks.

Bruce Springsteen has released a new song, ‘Streets of Minneapolis’ which he wrote, recorded, and released in less than one week…

STREETS OF MINNEAPOLIS
Bruce Springsteen

Through the winter's ice and cold, down Nicollet Avenue
A city aflame fought fire and ice 'neath an occupier's boots
King Trump's private army from the DHS, guns belted to their coats
Came to Minneapolis to enforce the law or so their story goes

Against smoke and rubber bullets, in the dawn's early light
Citizens stood for justice, their voices ringing through the night
And there were bloody footprints where mercy should have stood
And two dead left to die on snow-filled streets, Alex Pretti and Renee Good

Oh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice singing through the bloody mist
We'll take our stand for this land and the stranger in our midst
Here in our home they killed and roamed in the winter of '26
We'll remember the names of those who died on the streets of Minneapolis

Trump's federal thugs beat up on his face and his chest
Then we heard the gunshots and Alex Pretti lay in the snow dead
Their claim was self-defense, sir, just don't believe your eyes
It's our blood and bones and these whistles and phones against Miller and Noem's dirty lies

Oh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice crying through the bloody mist
We'll remember the names of those who died on the streets of Minneapolis

Now they say they're here to uphold the law but they trample on our rights
If your skin is black or brown my friend you can be questioned or deported on sight
In our chants of "ICE out now!" our city's heart and soul persists
Through broken glass and bloody tears on the streets of Minneapolis

Oh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice singing through the bloody mist
Here in our home they killed and roamed in the winter of '26
We'll take our stand for this land and the stranger in our midst
We'll remember the names of those who died on the streets of Minneapolis
We'll remember the names of those who died on the streets of Minneapolis

Good job, Boss!

More snippets from Comments on an ElReg article about the Chicken-in-Chief vs Greenland:

Re: TACO time

It took the focus away from cost of living and abused young girls for a couple of weeks.

.... which brought the response:

More importantly, it's distracting from Jack Smith's testifying - today IIRC - that he has a case solid enough to convict Trump for inciting the J6 insurrection.

It's an interesting and unique legal case; because as per the 14th Amendment an insurrectionist cannot stand for president, Trump is not the president now. This raises the argument that the Republicans didn't stand a candidate in 2024, which would mean Kamala Harris is President. This doesn't just eject Trump, it takes his entire administration with him as they would all be serving under false pretences.

.... which in turn yielded:

Ah, but Trump owns the SCOTUS.

I've not seen any of this other than the above, which causes me to wonder if someone also knows where Smith's grandchildren are. It worked for Vlad ....

Once again, the FUOB has attacked Jerome Powell, calling him a ‘moron’, over the central bank’s Federal Open Market Committee’s decision not to artificially cut interest rates.

”Because of the vast amounts of money flowing into our Country because of Tariffs, we should be paying the LOWEST INTEREST RATE OF ANY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD,” he said…

The president did not explain what, if anything, revenue from tariffs (which are import taxes paid by Americans and not by foreign countries as he often claims) had to do with the Fed’s “overnight rate” that lays out how much interest banks can charge each other for short-term interbank loans…

Tariffs have made America strong and powerful again, far stronger and more powerful than any other Nation. Commensurate with this strength, both financial and otherwise, WE SHOULD BE PAYING LOWER INTEREST RATES THAN ANY OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD,” he added…”

Read the full article from The Independent here.

Are Americans really so stupid as to believe the bare-faced lie that tariffs are paid by foreign countries? Tariffs are paid for by Americans, there is no vast flow of money into the US from tariffs, so why isn’t the FUOB called out on the lie?

from (Australian) ABC Religion & Ethics program

‘The ugly American’: Trump is uncouth and nakedly imperialistic, but we must imagine a future without him You can hear Professor O’Connor discuss Trump’s territorial ambitions and disruption of the “rules-based international order” with Waleed Aly and Scott Stephens on The Minefield.

US President Donald Trump believes he should have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for what he (falsely) claims to be his role in “having stopped 8 wars PLUS”. But it seems he will accept Greenland as a consolation prize. That he felt personally slighted by the Nobel snub is abundantly clear from a remarkable letter he sent to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre:

Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize … I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America. Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a “right of ownership” anyway? … I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland.

When asked by reporters from The New York Times why the United States needed to “own” Greenland, he said ownership was “Psychologically important for me”. But this interest in acquiring Greenland is nothing new. He expressed it repeatedly during his first term, and told Peter Baker and Susan Glasser back in 2021: (read on)

I endured the Melania film so you don’t have to – my only regret is not buying popcorn so one of my senses was entertained

The gist of it, by Caitlin Cassidy:
It’s Friday afternoon at Hoyts on Sydney’s northern beaches, and the atmosphere is horrific. I am here to see Amazon’s $75m “documentary” on Melania Trump, which has already been condemned as a flop ahead of its release.

When I arrive, I panic for a second that I have the time wrong. There are no Melania posters anywhere and the screening is tucked into the back bottom corner of the large movie theatre, like the weird leftover table at a wedding.

Eventually, just eight people arrive. The cinema has a capacity of about 150 people. There’s a couple, an elderly lady, a few middle-aged men and me. We all sit in the back for some reason.

I wonder if the terrible showing is because it’s a weird time of day to watch a movie. But of the five evening screenings of Melania taking place on its opening day at cinemas across Sydney, none have sold more than 16 tickets. One has sold just six.

The one thing we can all agree on that is lost and the world needs to find, the one thing every court deliberates, the one thing missing that amounts to a crime is...

[Chorus]
What the world needs now is reasonableness
It's the only thing that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is reasonableness
No, not just for some but for everyone

[Verse 1]
Look, we don't need another mountain
There are mountains and hillsides enough to climb
There are oceans and rivers enough to cross
Enough to last until the end of time

[Chorus]
What the world needs now is reasonableness
It's the only thing that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is reasonableness
No, not just for some but for everyone

[Verse 2]
Lord, we don't need another tyrant
There are morons and idiots enough to grow
There are sunbeams and moonbeams enough to shine
Oh, listen all, if You want to know

[Chorus]
What the world needs now is reasonableness
It's the only thing that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is reasonableness
No, not just for some, oh, but just for every, everyone

And more about the Melania flick, a review from The New Yorker (here's a snippet of it):
“From the first seconds of ‘Melania,’ we know we’re watching a commercial: the camera swoops and glides over the luxury waterfront estate Mar-a-Lago, and then, back on the ground, a snakeskin stiletto emerges from an S.U.V. Visually, it’s slick but exceedingly mid,” Lauren Collins writes. “The director Brett Ratner cozied up to the Trumps after spending years in movie-biz exile amid multiple allegations of sexual harassment and assault. (He has denied wrongdoing.) For his comeback, he has summoned all the artistic ambition of a local Realtor who just got a drone.”
