Don't know about best album, but in my opinion 'Working Class Hero' is his best song. Rings true on so many levels.

Maurice Lennon is a great fiddler. I liked his work with Stockton's Wing and especially his tune "If Ever You Were Mine".

And John Lennon's father Freddie did have a single out in 1965 called "That's My Life". Also contary to everything published about John's family, John's grandfather was a freight clerk in Liverpool where he was also born, and not a well known singer born in Ireland.

Imagine was a fine album but the title song was maudlin boring crap. of course he is over rated. Every body of taltnet in popular culture is; but he was an excellent singer and song writer.

Yes, but it shows a capacity for empathy. Isn't that common amongst great songwriters, the ability to imagine themselves walking in anothers' shoes? Frustration, fear, and desparation are felt by everyone at some point in their lives- it's just amplified by a lack of money.

The song certainly holds a lot of truth for me, being working class, if not a hero, and it eloquently describes how i feel a lot of the time. When i've just been screwed over again, and i'm thinking the only way i'm going to get out of the situation is in a box- well, i put on Working Class Hero, and i'm comforted by the fact that someone understands and has the balls to say it out loud. And quite frankly i'm not going to give two flying f***s whether that person is living in the gutter or in a mansion, the important thing is, they understand. They can empathise, and they can vocalise. Hypocritical? Maybe. Invaluable? To me, definetly.

John, and all the Beatles, were working class "by birth" (as kids), regardless of the fact that they became millionaires. Doesn't that make 'em all "working class heroes" of a sort?

Of course, I'm just an American, and probably don't understand all the fine distinctions of the English class system. Maybe they were only lower-middle-class but not truly working class (?)

Well, here in Britian we have a tendency to despise anyone who 'betrays' their class by making something of themselves...apparantly if someone from a working class background becomes wealthy, it renders all previous experience of poverty null an void.
