Subject: RE: John Lennons Birthday From: Biskit Date: 09 Oct 00 - 05:20 PM John said the Beatles are more popular than Jesus, i believe he was simply making an observation, not a political statement. Peace"through understanding"-Biskit- |
Subject: RE: John Lennons Birthday From: mousethief Date: 09 Oct 00 - 05:22 PM Jesus wasn't a politician. Then again neither was Lennon.

Subject: RE: John Lennons Birthday From: Eric the Viking Date: 10 Oct 00 - 03:10 PM We often quote from "Imagine" and I listen to it loads in the hope that-one day. But have you listened to the words of "Woman"? There seems to be a man that understood himself. (and many of us) I miss his music, he was something different. Do you think they will ever let that "nutter" out? Should they? I don't know,-Lennon was only a man like so many others who have died. I met him once for a few minutes, he was a sarky git, but I liked him-It was on the set of a Hard days night. I was just a kid then, but already I loved the music. Eric |
Subject: RE: John Lennons Birthday From: mousethief Date: 10 Oct 00 - 03:31 PM "sarky"?

Subject: RE: John Lennons Birthday From: Catrin Date: 10 Oct 00 - 04:17 PM Mousethief - I'm not the only one! |
Subject: RE: John Lennons Birthday From: Gern Date: 10 Oct 00 - 04:28 PM Glad to see him remembered and debated, as he would have loved. Of all the prominent assassinations we have endured, this is the one I never recovered from. He presented himself to the world in all his flawed glory, at times making us all uneasy with his honesty. He was the one person on earth who wouldn't harm a soul, and it still is painful to think that he was so brutally killed. "Jai guru deva om..." |
Subject: RE: John Lennons Birthday From: mousethief Date: 10 Oct 00 - 04:49 PM Wouldn't harm a soul? This has moved from elegy to hagiography. He got into fist-fights regularly. To misrepresent him is a dishonor.

Subject: RE: John Lennons Birthday From: Lonesome EJ Date: 10 Oct 00 - 06:02 PM to Liam Gallagher... "I knew John Lennon, and you,Sir,are no John Lennon." John was stubborn. He was idealistic, and naive, and full of nervous energy. He had a temper like a snake, and you could see it in his eyes when someone pissed him off.He recognized no barriers. He was funny, and often it spilled over into irreverence, and sarcasm too.He could be mean, and patronizing. But he was familiar with most of his faults, and consciously tried to overcome them.He had the gift of complete dedication...to a woman,to a band,to his music,to his ideals.Even a bullet couldn't stop him.He is more alive today through his music than many people who are walking around on two legs.He shines on. |
Subject: RE: John Lennons Birthday From: Peter T. Date: 10 Oct 00 - 06:10 PM And "Imagine" is a truly dreary song. yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: John Lennons Birthday From: mousethief Date: 10 Oct 00 - 06:14 PM Not just dreary but very self-indulgent. "If only everybody in the world would just agree with my worldview, there would be no more disagreement about worldviews." Um, yeah, that's certainly true. Now if your worldview had a little MORE to recommend it,...

Subject: RE: John Lennons Birthday From: Eric the Viking Date: 10 Oct 00 - 06:28 PM He got Ju Ju eyeballs. "Sarky" = Sarcastic And I don't think that Imagine was just Lennon's vision of how life could be, it was a starting point for people to work from if they wanted. After all-many people have taken life on from other peoples visions! And Lonesome EJ, you said it right. Long may Lennon shine in the music of the world. Love and peace Eric |
Subject: RE: John Lennons Birthday From: GUEST,slhinch@hotmail.com Date: 10 Oct 00 - 09:48 PM I have to agree with "Gern." John Lennon's death is something that still leaves a sadness in my heart when I think of it. I was 12 years old when he died on. . . was it Dec. 10, 1980? . . . and I cried the entire day. I recently returned to the East Coast from living in Indiana for about a year and went to New York City. One of the first places I went to was Central Park to see the John Lennon memorial - there was a fresh yellow rose set on the memorial - a beautiful indicator that his memory is very fresh in the minds of people. John Lennon was a wonderful human being. . . struggling like the rest of us but with the passion, talent and drive to express it to the entire world. . .

Subject: RE: John Lennons Birthday From: John MacKenzie Date: 09 Oct 09 - 01:13 PM Happy to share both his name and his birthday. It was a senseless waste of life when he was taken from us, but at least we have the legacy of his music. John |
Subject: RE: John Lennons Birthday From: Pistachio Date: 09 Oct 09 - 04:09 PM Happy Birthday John MacKenzie - shared with my sister and my late Father in Law too. Sorry for drifting - John Lennon, how many more wonderful, thoughtful songs would you have written by now? H. |
Subject: RE: John Lennons Birthday From: LostHills Date: 09 Oct 09 - 11:48 PM Handing out a "peace prize" to a warmonger on John Lennon's birthday is a travesty. John would say, "Bring the troops home, Mr. Obama!" And that's what I say. Bring them home now! |
Subject: RE: John Lennons Birthday From: Genie Date: 10 Oct 09 - 12:02 AM I rather doubt that John Lennon would be condemning Obama as a "war monger" were he still alive, even though he would probably be impatient with the pace at which we are extricating ourselves (the US) from the mess left us by the previous administration. |
