Subject: BS: I'm going to see Paul McCartney! From: Ed. Date: 21 Feb 03 - 02:59 PM Wasn't sure if this should be BS or not. Anyway, I've got tickets to Paul's UK tour, am going to the Manchester gig on 9th April. Apparently, the 15 000 tickets sold out in 20 minutes! I was lucky, and got through on the website. (many didn't) I've been a huge Beatles fan since I was 13, so this is a rare treat indeed. I've never been so excited since I was 10 years old! Please excuse my indulgence in starting this, but we're talking about Paul McCartney! |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm going to see Paul McCartney! From: Peter T. Date: 21 Feb 03 - 03:25 PM Most popular tour last year in North America. All kinds of people I know have seen him this time around and were thrilled. He appears to give audiences a heaping measure, which is one sure way into their hearts. I last saw him in 1966 -- I hope the sound has improved since then!! Odd to think that was 37 years ago: If you go back the previous 37 years (to 1929), the only people I can think of who could command a stage 37 years later would be Louis Armstrong and Bing Crosby. I'm sure there are others, but none come to mind except long lost folkies/blues guys -- Mississippi John Hurt, Doc Boggs, Son House. George Burns, Jack Benny. 37 years is a long time in the entertainment business. yours, Peter T. |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm going to see Paul McCartney! From: Ed. Date: 21 Feb 03 - 04:51 PM Sorry, Kim. It probably sounds stupid, but my life has been in a downward rut in many ways recently, and being utterly delighted to have tickets, is helping me sort other stuff. (I understand what I mean, anyway) |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm going to see Paul McCartney! From: alanabit Date: 22 Feb 03 - 02:55 AM I saw him about twelve years ago. Our car was held up in the traffic and we were twenty minutes late. I was in a furious temper. As we entered the hall, looking for a place we heard excellent versions of "Band on the Run", Got to Get You Into My Life" and "Maybe I'm Amazed". Classic followed classic and nearly three hours later the great man's immense charm and talent had overwhelmed me. I know he writes annoyingly naff lyrics, but somehow he can make me forgive him anything. I am going to see him in a few weeks time too, Ed. Have a great time. |
Subject: RE: BS: I'm going to see Paul McCartney! From: C-flat Date: 22 Feb 03 - 06:57 AM Paul McCartney has had a hand in providing so much of the soundtrack to so many of our lives that anyone would be hard pressed not to enjoy his current tour. I'm happy for you Ed! |
Subject: RE: BS: I'm going to see Paul McCartney! From: Blues=Life Date: 22 Feb 03 - 08:30 AM He is one of a kind, and I'm jealous about your tickets. To put into perspective how he's different, I remember Billy Joel being interviewed on the Today Show on why he participated in the Concert For New York. His response was simply that Paul McCartney had asked him. "And why is that enough?" came the followup question. He looked at the interviewer increduously, and then responded with a perfect Liverpool accent, saying "Because he's Paul McCartney, that's why!" Nuff Said. Enjoy the concert, you lucky dog. Blues |
Subject: RE: BS: I'm going to see Paul McCartney! From: GUEST Date: 23 Feb 03 - 08:37 AM Here's a heart-warming story;typical of the man. LONDON (Reuters) - Former Beatle Paul McCartney made $1 million (630,000 pounds) for charity by playing one of the smallest concerts of his career at a fan's 50th birthday party, his agent says. McCartney performed 19 songs, including classics such as "Let it Be", "Yesterday" and "Back in the USSR", in front of just 150 people at a club in San Diego, California. "Normally I don't do this sort of gig, but I was chuffed to do it because it was a win-win show," McCartney said in a statement released on Sunday in London by his spokesman Geoff Baker. Financier Ralph Whitworth secretly hired McCartney to perform at his wife's party at the Ranch Blues Club on Saturday night. Wendy Walker Whitworth, senior vice president of CNN, was stunned when McCartney took to the stage to perform in front of her family and friends. "She was totally gobsmacked and she was reduced to tears by the shock of it all," Baker said. McCartney presented her with 50 roses and they danced together to the Beatles song "Birthday". Among the guests were CNN's Larry King and NBC's Katie Couric. McCartney said his fee would go to Adopt-A-Minefield, a campaign group which seeks to clear mines and help victims. "This money will enable Adopt-A-Minefield to fit new limbs for thousands of landmine survivors so that they can walk again -- this birthday party will be a great present for them," the singer's wife Heather Mills McCartney said in a statement. |

Subject: RE: BS: I'm going to see Paul McCartney! From: JennyO Date: 23 Feb 03 - 10:30 AM I saw the Beatles perform at the Sydney Stadium in 1964. I still remember the tickets - they were tartan. Unfortunately I don't have them now. It was at the height of Beatlemania. The supporting acts were tolerated until the Beatles came on and did a half hour show, and you could barely hear them for the screaming. But what the hell! Even then, I knew that this was history in the making, and I was there, in the middle of it. Jenny |
Subject: RE: BS: I'm going to see Paul McCartney! From: Maxine Date: 23 Feb 03 - 01:13 PM Hi everyone My mum lives in Rye, East Sussex which is just a few miles from Peasmarsh where Paul McCartney lives. She sees him often, he does a lot for the local community and is apparently a regular in the local shops. She took us up to a good 'view point'at the back end of Peasmarsh, where we could see his old (and very large) house. She was very excited because as she pointed out, "this was Paul McCartney's house". We also drive past his windmill recording studio regularly.....My mum the 'stalker'! I'm never quite sure whether I actually like Paul McCartney as a solo artist or not. I'm a bit young to remember The Beatles, but everything they've done, I love. Have a great evening Ed, if you get a chance, tell Macca not to dye his hair so black, I think he'd look lovely with a bit of grey breaking through. Now's the time to age gracefully! |
Subject: RE: BS: I'm going to see Paul McCartney! From: Walking Eagle Date: 23 Feb 03 - 11:05 PM Lucky stiff! I saw the Beatles on their last tour. Memphis TN. Aug 1966. Their 15 minutes seemed like an hour to me. We were four star struck teenagers from WV and this was our big chance. We made up a gift box to give to them. George was my favorite so my little gift of a Kennedy Half Dollar (collectible mint) was for him. I just wish that Paul could buy back all the rights to their songs from that weirdly bent Michael Jackson. |
