Subject: RE: Did anybody watch the John Lennon Jukebo From: GUEST,Tunesmith Date: 15 Mar 04 - 04:07 AM Very enjoyable. It was great seeing all those rock legends tell their stories.I loved the John Sebastian sequence. I remember him doing a marvelous one-man tv show for BBC some 30 odd years ago - which has undoubtedly been wiped by some vision-less idiot. |
Subject: RE: Did anybody watch the John Lennon Jukebo From: Lanfranc Date: 15 Mar 04 - 04:19 AM Yes. It was well worth staying up for. Seeing John Sebastian and Donovan in that company illustrated the fact that the influence of both is much under-rated. Wish I'd video'd it, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it on DVD at some stage. The CD will be worth having, and that is apparently available now from ITV Store Just look at that list of tracks! Alan |
Subject: RE: Did anybody watch the John Lennon Jukebo From: harvey andrews Date: 15 Mar 04 - 06:05 AM Interesting in showing Lennon following the black music thread while McCartney followed more the white music thread of musicals, music-hall, ballad and pop (Buddy Holly). Put the two together and they covered just about every style of popular music. Ergo--connection with just about everybody and success. |

Subject: RE: Did anybody watch the John Lennon Jukebo From: Steve Parkes Date: 16 Mar 04 - 04:23 AM Videoed it, haven't watched it yet. Ever stop to think how much difference modern technology has made? If you'd sugested in the 60s that we'd be able to cram that much music into a thing the size of a matchbox, who'd have believed it? I remember Tomorrow's World saying the same thing about a tape recorder (big 7" reel-to-reel job) and a Walkman (four times the size of an MP3 player & only 45 mins playing time). I don't think anyone will be looking at the contents of, say, Eric Clapton's MP3 box in thirty years time! I'm surprised The Sun hasn't invited readers (sic!) to write in and say what they'd have had on their mobile jukeboxes ... Steve |
Subject: RE: Did anybody watch the John Lennon Jukebox From: katlaughing Date: 08 Sep 04 - 11:30 PM They just showed this on PBS, tonight. What a wonderful program! You can read about it by clicking HERE. I loved that one guy's quote about playing mouth harp...it's just like masturbation...you try it for a while and then you get it or something like that. The whole thing was quite remarkable and I loved the Donovan segment as well as the others. kat |

Subject: RE: Did anybody watch the John Lennon Jukebox From: Blackcatter Date: 09 Sep 04 - 12:45 PM We had it on last night. Very good. Funny thing was a good friend brought some food over for me last night (still surviving from the 2 hurricanes) and he was really impressed with the music I was playing. Thank goodness for PBS. |
