When I was a grammar school boy of 13 getting into the rock music lyrics of the late 60s and early 70s,
I felt it was my duty to analyse and understand these great pearls of confounding surreal profound wisdom...
If I didn't unserstand them, it was my fault for not being clever enough...???

Because that's how we were being taught to do the same with poetry at school...

Years later I realised the lyrics were mostly complete hippy dippy stoned pretentious bollocks...

McCartney has elsewhere remarked that
George Harrison, of happy memory,
used to tell him off about his song lyrics about people
like the man with the barrow in the marketplace (Obladi Oblada)
and how they had nothing to do with the real deal.

I've always enjoyed this song, although I have to admit I haven't thought much about its meaning. It has its own Wikipedia page that explores its meaning. But hey, it's a fun song and I like it.
