Subject: Lyr Add: HEY JUDE (Lennon McCartney)
From:
Date: 14 Jan 00 - 12:58 AM

For the record:

HEY JUDE
(John Lennon/Paul McCartney)

Hey, Jude, don't make it bad,
Take a sad song and make it better.
Remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.

Hey, Jude, don't be afraid,
You were made to go out and get her.
The minute you let her under your skin,
Then you begin to make it better.

And anytime you feel the pain,
Hey, Jude, refrain,
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders.
Da da da da da da da da da da.

Hey, Jude, don't let me down,
You have found her, now go and get her.
Remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.

For now you know that it's a fool
Who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder.
Da da da da da da da da da da.

Hey, Jude, don't make it bad,
Take a sad song and make it better.
Remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.

when I find myself in times of trouble
mother Mary comes to me
speaking words of wisdom: let it be...;...
let it be; let it be; let it be; let it be
whisper words of wisdom: let it be

And when the broken-hearted people living in the world agree
there will be an answer:
let it be....
let it be
let it be
let it be
let it be
there will be an answer: let it be
let it be; let it be; let it be; let it be
speaking words of wisdom: let it be

and when the night is cloudy there is still a light that shines on me
shines on until tomorrow: let it be
let it be; let it be; let it be; let it be
whisper words of wisdom: let it be

No, super ted, you're not alone, but it depends on your rating system. Millions of people would put them on top of their favourites list because of what Beatles music reminds them of, or simply because their musical aspirations extend no further.

But who's to say who's wrong and who's right? The millions who adore them, or the Fool On The Hill who looks higher?

Like it or lump it, these songs have had a bigger impact on people, making them feel better, making them better even, than many of the folk gems we treasure.

Lennon and Macca are both over-rated, then most people in popular music are. Every talent is a genius. The only real genius that popular music produced was Dylan coz he revolutionised the music on so many levels, but especially lyrically.

Hey Jude is a crap song by the way.

Whether Hey Jude is a better song than "As I roved out with a merry ploughboy in June on board the frigate Amphitrite" is kind of irrelevant. I happen to like both kinds of songs. But I dont see why we need to post the lyrics of Beatles songs here, any nore than we need to post the sheet music of Bach's Bminor Mass here. Unless we are doing some kind of "compare and contrast" discussion. Under which heading, I would suggest that the melody of Hey Jude comes rather more from the Bach tradition(as fed to L/M by GM) than from the old skiffle/rocknroll background of the four mopheads from Scouseland.

El Greko rest assured you are not alone, The Beatles are the product of a vast industry, I'm not denying the songwriting was at times inspired but they also wrote a good deal of crap, to my mind McCartney has done so ever since the Beatles split (I won't mention the Frog song honest). However without the industry backing them and raking off huge amounts of lolly, they would not have achieved the "fame" they did.
The Leisure/Entertainment Industry in all it's forms make something desirable and therefore "must-have" to all of us at some time but some are more susceptible than others to hype, it is this market that the record companies exploit

Subject: Lyr Add: BIG BOOBS (parody of HEY JUDE)
From: Sttaw Legend
Date: 23 Sep 04 - 08:39 AM

Big boobs, they tend to sag,
But a wire bra can make them better.
Silicon isn't too good for your heart
But it can make your boobs much better.

Big boobs, they can be great.
They really boosted Dolly's career.
They put plastic right up under her chest,
It really made her songs much better.

I'm sure at first you'll feel the pain. Big boobs bring pain.
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders.
For well you know that I'm one of a few who like big boobs.
They just make my world a little bolder.

Da-da-da-da-da-da, da-da-da, hey Jude...

Big boobs can touch the ground.
Those are too big, can't get much larger.
Silicon isn't to good for your heart
But sometimes the size don't make things better.

They check em out, then put them in, big boobs, begin,
You're waiting for doctors to just finish,
And don't you know that it's just you, small boobs will do.
The beauty you need is in your soul, girl.

Da-da-da-da-da-da, da-da-da, hey Jude...

Big boobs, they tend to sag,
But a wire bra can make them better.
Silicon doesn't do much good for your heart
But it can make your boobs
Bigger Bigger Bigger Bigger Bigger, oh.

Da-da-da-da-da-da, da-da-da, BIG BOOBS!

Oddly enough, Woody Guthrie rated Bob Dylan more as a singer than as a songwriter. Not everyone ever was going to like his singing, but he sure knew what he was doing!

I happen to like both songs, but don't expect them to be "harvested" or put in the data base. They are copyright material that still has (to some folks, anyway) significant economic potential. But, mostly, they just don't "fit the 'Cat." The boob parody, however, is a different matter. It ought to be harvested, IMHO.

It would be difficult to overrate Bob Dylan. It would also be difficult to overrate the Beatles, when it came to great chording, terrific harmonies, and a joyful sound. Dylan admired the Beatles. They admired him. Specially Harrison and Lennon did.

Were they overly hyped by the industry? Yeah! So was Elvis. That's the way the industry works when someone really effective comes along. The Beatles were a hell of a good band after their lengthy stay in Hamburg, Germany.

Hey Jude is a fairly sappy pop song, but it sounds good to my ears.

Helen In High Water Boots - we have "folks" posting stuff that ain't blues (hardly "music" either) that they wrote last week - and they believe it is TRAD by posting it to the MC....they are even "pleading" for inclusion in the next edition of The DT.

You know nothing about Music if you don't appreciate The Beatles. And to have the timerity to critise the finest popular group of musicians of all time; I will listen to every last utterance of your shallow inconsequential monosyllabic drivel without so much as a yawn when you have written over 250 songs that are universally loved and admired the world over by far more creative and imaginitive individuals than sit at the feet of a man that performed the worst cover version of a Paul Simon song I ever had the misfortune to hear. The Beatles changed the world and dragged Dylan and the crinkley folkie brigade into a new stratosphere of aural possibilities and defined a decade and impacted in every major cultural field earning the respect and admiration of Classical Composers, Film Makers, Politicians, Artists, Literary Greats and Critics alike. Sing "Tom Dooley" all you like but remember you will never be able to play and sing "Blackbird" or "Here Comes The Sun" because your voice isn't good enough and your technical proficiency with the instrument of your choice is somewhat lacking - that ain't any reason to knock em' just admire their talent like all sound minded music lovers do and someday who knows; you might just manage a chorus of "Yellow Submarine" and feel a wave of adulation from those stalwarts around you who are fed up with hearing "Tom Dooley" every Sunday Afternoon for the past 20 years and realise what you've been missing in your blinkered state.

Here's Hoping!

You are missing the point Sidewinder. Nobody with an ounce of musical sensibility denies the Beatles' talent, it's just that there is no reason to post the lyrics of pop songs here.

It's as inappropriate as going to a song session and playing some obscure 80's song that nobody knows. You know what I mean, the kind of song that makes people glance sideways at each other ,raise their eyebrows ever so slightly, and study their fingernails intently.

I'm sure you have noticed that reaction from time to time ...

Now don't get me started on the relevance of obscure eighties pop songs GUEST I have just calmed down from reading "An English Patriot" and "Raggytash" and as you may have gathered I am a Beatlemaniac. after getting caught up in the intial hype noone admits to being conned, but I believe macartney has been micky taking with his successful attempts at being a songwriter.

lennon wrote one song - Imagine

we in the folk genre can accept it for what it is and what it does, but are of a more discerning taste than the average record buying, gullible public who are manipulated by the music industry who rule the airwaves.

if you dont get it heard, you dont get heard, you dont sell.

I pity the poor folk whose musical horizons are limited and who do not know about this underground movement of ours from where the real songs of our times emerge.

tonight at the Queens Head in Ampthill, Bedfordshire,   come and hear the lovely voice of Hilary Ward and also glimpse George Papavgeris, a real song writer

doors open 8.00ish
