Subject: RE: LYRICS REQ: Italian Opera From: Margo Date: 04 Mar 99 - 11:13 AM Hey guys, I have to tell you that I did search using "lyric diction" and ended up at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, my alma mater. I was delighted, as I had never thought of looking them up on the web. I emailed and old friend...funny how those things have a way of happening. I should thank you for helping me find an old friend....... Margarita |
Subject: RE: LYRICS REQ: Italian Opera From: Peter T. Date: 04 Mar 99 - 09:13 AM Also thanks from me, Margarita -- I have been looking for an opera lyrics site practically forever. It is funny that this one does not seem to have made it into any of the main search engines. Thanks again, a Godsend. Yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: LYRICS REQ: Italian Opera From: Margo Date: 03 Mar 99 - 08:24 PM John, I myself had trouble searching for the Opera site that I found. I have sung in a variety of languages, and was required to translate every word. Sometimes you run into idiomatic phrases that don't make sense word for word, but if you know the story line, you can usually figure it out. Italian is nice because you pronounce every vowel and consonant purely. No diphthongs. Also, I took a class in Lyric Diction. Perhaps you might use those words in your search engine. Opera is my old stomping grounds, but I prefer singing folk music. Funny, huh? Please post again if you're still having trouble finding what you're looking for. Margarita |
Subject: RE: LYRICS REQ: Italian Opera From: John in Brisbane Date: 03 Mar 99 - 08:04 PM Margarita, Thank you, thank you! I had searched the Web endlessly to no avail. I have had to learn recently to sing in a variety of other languages, and I must admit that I find it very hard to do this without a real comprehension of the lyrics. The French and Latin I can handle (just) but I need to do some basic study on the Italian and German. The Italian language looks a lot easier, and I adore Verdi. Any clues please for an Italian language primer on the Web?

Subject: RE: LYRICS REQ: Italian Opera From: Margo Date: 03 Mar 99 - 11:58 AM Try http://php.indiana.edu/~lneff/libtlist.html You will need to know where the anvil chorus is because this is a complete libretto beginning to end. If you need help with some Italian I might be able to help. Margarita |
Subject: LYRICS REQ: Italian Opera From: John in Brisbane Date: 03 Mar 99 - 03:03 AM Could someone please tell me of a site for Opera Lyrics - I am particularly keen to get the Italian lyrics for Verdi's Aida Chorus and Anvil Chorus?
PS The first few bars of the Anvil Chorus sound very like the start of the Scotland Football Anthem (Flowers of Scotland?)
