Subject: Lyr Req: Italian folk song From: GUEST,jakkila Date: 30 Jun 08 - 11:50 AM Does anyone have the lyrics and possibly the chords for an Italian folk song, La Torinese? I heard it on the Putamayo cd, Italian Odyssey as sung by La Ciapa Rusa. The melody is lovely and I would love to learn it. Thanks |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: La Torinese (Italian; from La Ciapa Rusa) From: Monique Date: 28 Jan 11 - 03:32 AM This is Montferrino Piedmontese as far as I can tell and if I understand it well, it roughly translates as "In Turin, there's a beautiful girl. Her mother and her father love her, they want to marry her off. "A 15 year old boy will come with us for evening gathering, and at night he'll sleep with you." "To sleep with me wants a great license/freedom (?), the people of this city are going to talk". "If they talk, let them talk, but for once, make this heart happy." "To make this heart happy, we must go to France to make a life, you will sell things and I will get the cash." Italian songs at archives.org |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: La Torinese (Italian; from La Ciapa Rusa) From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 28 Jan 11 - 05:50 PM La torinese, "The Girl from Turin," is a revision of a "traditional folk ballad", by the group La Ciapa Rusa. ".....tells the tale of a beautiful young maiden whose parents are attempting to marry her off." Monique posted more of the words, above. http://www.rambles.net/va_italmusodyss.html |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: La Torinese (Italian; from La Ciapa Rusa) From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 28 Jan 11 - 06:06 PM The first name of the composer, Martinotti, is Maurizio. The group La Ciapa Rusa disbanded in 2003. Their last cd, "Diario di bordo," does not contain "La torinese," which is on the cd "Italian Musical Odyssey," out-of-print but available used. |
