Ciao, Fedele. I don't get to spend much time here on Mudcat, so haven't met you before. These three songs seem as if they might be three different verses or stanzas of the same song.

Is there someplace we can go to learn the tunes? Do they all have the same tune?

When I read the words "Dammela a me biondina," I thought they would be translated as "Give it to me, little fair maid," that is, "Give me some sex, little fair maid." Could this be a better translation?

Most of the Italian songs I know are songs I learned from my father. Of course he never taught me any songs like this!

Sure. You may be able to do a forum search for "Bella Ciao," a love song turned into a WWII resistance song. I think we had a thread on "Quel Mazzolin di Fiori," and I know there have been several others. If you want old fashioned Neapolitan stuff, I remember there was a thread on "Funiculi, Funicula."

I was ASKED to write down these "songs". I'm not so vulgar unless you ask me... I'm from Grosseto (half-way between Rome and Florence) but I live in Pisa now. All these cretin songs are sung on the beginning of a famous Sixties Italian pop-song, "I Vatussi", by Edoardo Vianello. I cant't play anything but the fool so I can't give you the tune, sorry. I know only the beginning of another Osteria: Osteria del Vaticano, esce il Papa col cazzo in mano, that is: Vatican tavern, here comes out the Pope with his dick in his hand. "Give me some sex" is a correct translation, but "dammela a me" means "give that thing to me" so it's a bit less explicit. Remember that "dammeLA" is feminine, so it could be also traslated as "give HER to me". You caught the sense, however. Dearest Callie, I know a LOT of Italian folk songs, mostly political, and Bella Ciao is perhaps the most famous and maybe the first I learned as a child. If anyone is interested in these songs, start a thread and I'll be very pleased.

Fedele and Callie, I live in Washington, DC and am a very active member of the Folklore Society of Greater Washington. My father was born in Teora, a small town in Provincia Avellino, about 70 miles west of Naples. My mother was from Bowden, Georgia,USA. Both sides of the family loved music, so I learned southern Appalachian songs, operatic excerpts, pop music from the 20's, 30's and 40's, and both romantic parlor songs (eg Santa Lucia) and country tunes like Cicerenella in Italian.

Callie, what I learned from my family was basically Neapolitan songs. Neapolitan songs are almost never about anything except blue waters, soft music and l'amore...

Fedele, I'm going to start new threads for two songs I'd like to learn more about. Maybe you will recognize them. Thanks for your offer of help!

re bachelor party.    There are a lot of funny songs for such an occasion.    I don't know which part of Italy you hail from.   I have a collection from the Alps to Sicily.    From Bari there is "U maritiello.:   From north there is La Dosolina.
