The first name of the composer, Martinotti, is Maurizio. The group La Ciapa Rusa disbanded in 2003. Their last cd, "Diario di bordo," does not contain "La torinese," which is on the cd "Italian Musical Odyssey," out-of-print but available used.

La torinese, "The Girl from Turin," is a revision of a "traditional folk ballad", by the group La Ciapa Rusa. ".....tells the tale of a beautiful young maiden whose parents are attempting to marry her off."
Monique posted more of the words, above.

Here the chords (as I heard them on YouTube) of the tune newly composed by Martinotti/La Ciapa Rusa, not traditional:

D Em D Em G G A
D G Em D/F# B G A D
D Em D Em G G A
D G Em D/F# B G A Bm

Monique, good stuff! Archive.org is like a grandparents' attic. Once more I "wasted" some time downloading and reading. I like the Djvu format best; viewing software is available here.

This is Montferrino Piedmontese as far as I can tell and if I understand it well, it roughly translates as "In Turin, there's a beautiful girl. Her mother and her father love her, they want to marry her off. "A 15 year old boy will come with us for evening gathering, and at night he'll sleep with you." "To sleep with me wants a great license/freedom (?), the people of this city are going to talk". "If they talk, let them talk, but for once, make this heart happy." "To make this heart happy, we must go to France to make a life, you will sell things and I will get the cash."

I found this text in an article "Nuova Raccolta di Canti Popolari Monferrini" in a journal: Rivista Europea, Volume 6, Parts 1-2 (Firenze: Tipografia Editrice dell' Associazione, 1874), page 89:

[Don't ask me to explain anything about this; I only copied what I found. All I know is, it doesn't seem to be standard Italian but some regional dialect.]

LA TORINESE

1. An sï la fin d' Tirin
U jè na bela fija
Na bela fija n jè
An sï la fin d' Tirin.

2. Soi pare e ra soi mare
Ij voro* d'ïn gran ben
Ra voro maridera
Ra voro maridèe

3. "Giuvo di quindes ani
Vin rà vigeè** cun nui
An sï ra seira tarde
Vinrà drumi' cun vui

4. "Avni drumi cun mi
U j vò na gran licensa
Ra gent di questa villa
I parliran di nui.

5. "Si parliran di nui
Lassèe parlèe chi parlu
Lassèe parlèe chi parlu
Lassèe parlèe chi vò
Ma pir na vota sula
Cuntantèe isto cor.

6. "Pir cuntantè isto cor
Bisogna andari in Fransa
A fè lo vivandèe
Vui i vendrei ra roba
E mi quintrò i dinèe."

* Vogliono.
** Vegliare.

Does anyone have the lyrics and possibly the chords for an Italian folk song, La Torinese? I heard it on the Putamayo cd, Italian Odyssey as sung by La Ciapa Rusa. The melody is lovely and I would love to learn it. Thanks
