I have been searching for Tom Paxton's song "The Great American Dream" but have been unable to find it on any of his albums. Does anyone know where it can be found?

THE GREAT AMERICAN DREAM
(Tom Paxton)

Have you seen the long grass waving in the pastures in the spring?
Have you seen the golden meadowlarks and heard the songs they sing?
Have you dived into the waters of an icy mountain stream?
Have you shared with your forefathers in the great American dream?

In the great American dream, the great American dream.
Have you shared with your forefathers in the great American dream?

Did you see the peaches bloomin' by the churchyards at Shiloh?
Did you fight the river pirates on the rolling Ohio?
Have you ever lost your pasture in a roaring prairie fire?
Have you ever won a strike and found the prices getting higher?

Were you in the bloody battles of the bloody Pullman strike?
Were you at Corregidor and did you make that bloody hike?
Were you down in Mississippi? Did you face that jeering mob?
Were you mining down at Hazard when they took away your job?

Have you stood and watched the dust storms on the Oklahoma plains?
Have you rode with the jobless migrants on the rattlin' flat-car trains?
Have you ever been blacklisted by a silent poison pen?
Have you ever heard the talkin' of a gang of hungry men?

Did you ever dream of spending time with your own family?
And watch your kids a-growin' up and feelin' that you're free?
Do you very often wonder if things are what they seem?
Do you wonder what is happening to your great American dream?

You can hear it at

done by another person. If you specifically require a version done by Tom I will look in an hour or so.

Was published in this book but it looks like Tom never recorded it. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

Guest 999 --- Thanks for the info, but, yes, I am specifically looking for Tom Paxton singing his song. Perhaps I should have refined my thread subject somewhat. I was aware of his songbook - and that "The Great American Dream" is listed therein - but I assumed that he must have recorded it early in his career.. Best wishes, Tony

Tony, try asking the folks at

www (dot) cherrylane (dot) com

I think they'd be able to give you an answer one way or other. Best of luck to you.
