Subject: RE: Fats Domino Missing From: John MacKenzie Date: 01 Sep 05 - 02:22 PM That's sad, and what is also sad is the style in which the article is written, I mean it's total crap, and an insult to grammar among other epithets. Giok |

Subject: RE: Fats Domino Missing From: Jeremiah McCaw Date: 01 Sep 05 - 03:13 PM "Fats" is only 76? Seems like he's been around forever. Hope this part of the Katrina story, at least, has a happy ending. All our thoughts and prayers, people, all our thoughts and prayers. |
Subject: RE: Fats Domino Missing From: PoppaGator Date: 01 Sep 05 - 03:15 PM I don't see what's so wrong with the article. I mean, I think I could have done a better job of writing it, but that's just me ~ I have that opinion about a lot of published material. The writer's point of view ~ that more of these true hometown artists should participate in Friday's big televised concert ~ is well taken. However, they're sadly unavailable, which is not the fault of the people organizing the show. I'm not at all surprised that Fats decided to stay home, and only a little bit more shocked that Antoinette made a similar decision. I'm somewhat more surprised to learn that Allen Toussaint decided not to hop in his Bently (Louisianas license plate "PIANO") and head for high ground. But then again, I very nearly made the same dead-wrong decision myself. The impact of this thing is simply unimaginable based on all previous hurricane experience. When we left, we figured we'd be back in a few days no matter how direct a hit the city would take. Harry Connick Sr was district attorney of Orleans Parish for many years, and of course Harry Jr is a native son. He will be one of the headliners of Friday's fundraising TV concert. Some of Allen Toussaint's other credits not mentioned in the article: he wrote and arranged a string of hits for Lee Dorsey in the 60s ("Workng in a Coal Mine," "(Sitting Here) La La," "Holy Smoke," etc.), organized The Meters as the house band for his Sea-Saint Studios in the 70s, and did the horn arrangements for The Band's farewell concert "The Last Waltz." |

Subject: RE: Fats Domino missing in New Orleans From: Ebbie Date: 01 Sep 05 - 10:15 PM The Story "One of rock 'n' roll's chief architects has been rescued from the rubble of New Orleans. "Fats Domino, who had been unaccounted for in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, was plucked from the flooded city by a rescue boat. "His daughter, Karen Domino White, who lives in New Jersey, identified her father in a picture taken Monday night by a New Orleans Times-Picayune photographer. The singer is seen being helped from a boat by an emergency crew. "There was no word on where he was taken. There was also no word on the whereabouts of family members that had been with him before the storm hit." Funny. Jim Lehrer's News Hour said that Fats has not been found. You'd think they'ed update it somehow. |
Subject: RE: Fats Domino missing in New Orleans From: Kaleea Date: 02 Sep 05 - 03:50 AM I have been wondering about the Musicians of the New Orleans area. There are many well known artists, but many more who are not well known. These folks are some of the greatest Jazz Musicians on the planet who happened to find steady employment because Jazz is one of the biggest reasons why the greater New Orleans region is important--not including oil rigs, wells, tankers, refineries & such. There is also a tremendous loss of historical collections, and of course the hallowed halls of Jazz. |
Subject: RE: Fats Domino missing in New Orleans -found! From: GUEST,Sidmouth Resident Date: 02 Sep 05 - 04:49 AM Let's hope the worldwide jazz community rallies round as the situation becomes clearer. If Sidmouth sunk under a tsunami I'm sure 'folkies' the world over would raise money for The Bedford and The Anchor. Let's hope jazz fans help the many world-famous venues and artists of New Orleans. |

Subject: RE: Fats Domino missing in New Orleans -found! From: Melani Date: 03 Sep 05 - 02:52 AM The whole thing is just unbelieveable. It's a disgrace that relief hasn'r arrived faster--but of course, a large chunk of the National Guard is busy in Iraq. |
Subject: RE: Fats Domino missing in New Orleans -found! From: GUEST,From London Date: 03 Sep 05 - 04:28 AM I wonder if our American friends appreciate just how bad their Government and nation appears to the rest of the world? You can bully your way round the planet but you can't look after the poor and vulnerable in your own country. It seems the world's media and the Salvation Army could get into the disaster areas within hours of the hurricane subsiding yet it took your President and National Guard five days to do so. Shame on you. |

Subject: RE: Fats Domino missing in New Orleans -found! From: GUEST,John Frankham Date: 03 Sep 05 - 04:36 PM And so they should be. It's wrong to blame the entire American nation for the failure to act more quickly but, blimey, your authorities really have failed those who needed help most. The English media have had a field day bashing Bush & Co. |
