Subject: PEL hit squads! From: harvey andrews Date: 05 Jan 03 - 07:50 AM On my morning constitutional around the quiet country lanes outside my village this morning I came across the smashed remains of an acoustic guitar. It appeared to have been violently assaulted and then dismembered. Nothing like this has happened before. Could it be that government PEL hit squads are in training? Was some lovelorn youth wandering at night in our starry, frosty countryside gently strumming a love song to his beloved only to be pounced on by a licensing officer and his trained suppressers? Is he now languishing in a cell wondering how he can raise £20,000 to avoid six months incarceration? We have been warned! |

Subject: RE: PEL hit squads! From: Steve Parkes Date: 06 Jan 03 - 05:48 AM Harvey, it sounds more like "unwanted Christmaw present syndrome" to me: unwanted by the other family members, that is! It happened to my cousin in 1965 ... "You or me, boy, is gonna roam ... And I ain't goin'!" Steve |
Subject: RE: PEL hit squads! From: Micca Date: 06 Jan 03 - 06:01 AM " If you want to get in trouble let me tell you how to do it you get yourself a guitar and then your right in to it you play all day and you play all night people say you'll never learn to play the thing right, always moaning at you wont let you practice".... Lonnie Donegan that what you had in mind Steve? |
Subject: RE: PEL hit squads! From: Steve Parkes Date: 06 Jan 03 - 10:29 AM We're giving our ages away here, Micca! |
Subject: RE: PEL hit squads! From: Dave Bryant Date: 07 Jan 03 - 06:38 AM - And I'm older than Micca ! Perhaps we should find some way of persuading PEL hit squads that it's Bodhrans, Kazoos and Banjos that represent the main danger. The police might even consider an amnesty so that they could be handed in. |
Subject: RE: PEL hit squads! From: fiddler Date: 07 Jan 03 - 07:22 AM Can we give an amnesty to shaky eggs too - It might get them off the streets!!! |
Subject: RE: PEL hit squads! From: Ralphie Date: 07 Jan 03 - 08:32 AM Remember. A guitar is not just for Christmas....... Ralphie |
Subject: RE: PEL hit squads! From: Steve Parkes Date: 07 Jan 03 - 10:54 AM How did you know I'd had a guitar for Christmas? |
Subject: RE: PEL hit squads! From: The Shambles Date: 07 Jan 03 - 01:39 PM Harvey have you looked to see if there are another two similarly treated instruments nearby? |

Subject: RE: PEL hit squads! From: Gurney Date: 09 Jan 03 - 04:20 AM Shouldn't Ralphie have a capital J in 'just?' Just teasing. Remember Dave in Hinckley who wrote the song about 'The Knock-on-the-Door-in-the-Night Squad? Is he still around? |
Subject: RE: PEL hit squads! From: Dave Bryant Date: 09 Jan 03 - 05:30 AM I must admit that Shambles has got a point. The two-in-a-bar rule has not been repealed yet, so there would need to be at least three people to break the law. On the other hand - does the two-in-a-bar rule apply outside bars ! |
Subject: RE: PEL hit squads! From: The Shambles Date: 09 Jan 03 - 06:19 AM No only on liquor licensed premises. The exemption recognised that small-scale entertainment was safe as these premises were inspected and licensed to ensure the publc's safety. Which is why it is such a nonsense when councils now claim that the addition of one to a duo, automatically make these perfectly safe premises, unsafe. |
Subject: RE: PEL hit squads! From: Steve Parkes Date: 09 Jan 03 - 08:36 AM Gurney, does Dave in Hinckley's KOTDITNS have any relation to Barrie Roberts' song of the same name? Steve |
Subject: RE: PEL hit squads! From: Gurney Date: 10 Jan 03 - 05:19 AM Steve, thats the one. I always thought Dave was the writer, it went with his face. Thanks. |
