Subject: RE: BS: Kim Howells, but NOT PELS for a change From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 07 Feb 03 - 04:49 PM But sometimes those who can't - do as well. You don't necessarily have to be a musician to recognise a bum note. Not that I have any wish to defend Kim Howells - however I think it's better to concentrate on the numerous times he says things that don't make sense, or just aren't true, rather than on the rare occasions when what he says happens to be in line with what a great many people think. I'd far rather that he had gone on record as saying that the Turner Prizewinners were magnificent artists, and every bit as good as Turner himself. That would have convinced everyone that Kim Howells really was... |

Subject: RE: BS: Kim Howells, but NOT PELS for a change From: The Shambles Date: 07 Feb 03 - 10:33 AM Music Bill attack 'pure fantasy' By Jack Malvern, Arts Reporter Snip Dr Howells stood by earlier comments that the union was spreading "a pernicious lying campaign". He said: "The problem with the union is that it is good at dishing it out, but no good at taking it. What it is saying is nonsense. It thinks that a postman walking down a street and whistling will need a licence." I wonder when his own novel appears, if Dr Howells will be as good at taking it as he is at dishing out? |

Subject: RE: BS: Kim Howells, but NOT PELS for a change From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 06 Feb 03 - 07:21 PM Struck me the drawing was a waste of paper, and so was the Guardian coverage, with a page in the tabloid section thrown away on it, just as a bitchy payback for the man's comments last October on the Turner Prize. Which was just about the only sensible thing I've come across him saying, as it happens. |
Subject: BS: Kim Howells, but NOT PELS for a change From: DMcG Date: 06 Feb 03 - 03:53 PM Yesterday the Guardian published a sketch of a drawing by our favourite Minister and had their art critics comment on it. Their remarks obviously hit a nerve and KH wrote an immediate letter in which his hurt pride is evident. You may like to read it here. |
